Marvel RivalsMarvel Rivals Storm Character Guide
Storm Overview
Controlling the weather to harness the power of wind, thunder, and lightning, Storm brings her hurricane to destroy her enemies. One of the few flyers in Marvel Rivals, Storm has the unique ability to control the skies, long line of sights, and provide buffs for her entire team.
Her aerial movement is rather slow compared to many heroes with movement abilities, so Storm needs to be extra purposeful with her positioning. Lacking an escape ability also means she completely relies on cover and her team to escape enemy threats.
The ability to fly means she can access cover and positions very few other heroes can. Once her ultimate is fully charged, she has an easy means of confirming eliminations while also building a ton of overhealth to survive longer. When you see her AoE storm brewing, brace yourself, because the lightning is very, very frightening.

TLDR
As
- Remember that your buff zone is a sphere and not a cylinder, so you need to be in range to grant to your allies. Check your indicator to be sure.
- Get used to rising and descending with Space and Cntrl to make yourself a harder target.
- Look to delete backlines with your ultimate, especially if their Strategists don't have theirs to counter you.
Against
- Heroes like Hela, Hawkeye, and Punisher are good choices into flyers.
- Since Storm's ult has a lot of forward momentum, sometimes you can survive it by running through it rather than away from it.
- Expect her team to beat yours to points since she can grant AoE movespeed buffs.
Strengths and Weaknesses
Strengths
Flying
- Being able to permanently fly is a rare ability in Marvel Rivals. Storm can play around tall walls and structures like no other hero can. Consequently, the high positions also create vertical off angles which forces the enemies to choose between looking down towards the rest of her team or looking away from everyone just to look at her.
Combination of Consistent and Burst Damage
- Most heroes specialize in either burst or consistent damage output. Storm does both and does them each exceptionally well. Ever Since her Season 1 buffs, the damage dealt by Storm leads to quick KOs, farming her ult, and burning down Vanguards. She can spam primary fire to consistent damage, then has access to Goddess Boost and Bolt Rush when in need of quick bursts of damage.
Piercing Projectile
- Not only is Storm’s primary fire strong against solo targets, but it also pierces through unlimited enemies. When the entire enemy team is trying to break through a choke, Storm farms ult unbelievably fast if she can find angles to constantly be hitting multiple enemies with each projectile.
Weaknesses
Slow Movement Speed
- All that flying does have its drawbacks as Storm’s slow movement makes her an easy target when out in the open. She also can’t easily reposition in the middle of a fight as transferring between two covers can give the enemy team ample time to shoot her out of the sky. The slow aerial movement even makes her an easy target for melee heroes like Spider-Man who typically wouldn’t be thought of as a flying counter.
No Escape Tools
- Storm has great long-range damage and flying high makes it difficult to close the distance on her. Once an enemy does approach her, however, she is forced to outduel them as she has no way of escaping. Her only other hope is that she planned ahead, and can dip behind cover where the enemy can’t follow.
Needs to Position Near Allies to Boost
- The ability to fly means Storm usually wants to create angles and positions that only she can access. Many of these positions also prevent her allies from benefiting from her speed and damage boosts. On the other hand, if she wants to focus on boosting allies, she is then forced to position near them and give up those strong off-angles.
Ability Tips
Primary Fire: Wind Blade
DESCRIPTION | Launch forward-piercing Wind Blades |
KEY | Left Click |
CASTING | Projectile that fires in a straight trajectory |
PROJECTILE SPEED | 150m/s |
DAMAGE | 55 damage per round |
DAMAGE FALLOFF | Falloff begins at 20m, decreasing to 70% at 40m |
FIRE RATE | 2 rounds per second |
AMMO | 12 |
CRITICAL HIT | No |
SPECIAL EFFECT | Wind Blade pierces through enemies |
Tips for Wind Blade
- Rebind Descend
- First and foremost, you need to have full control over her aerial movement. Rebinding, “Descend,” to a button/key that is easy to spam will make controlling and dodging more fluid.
- Use Vertical Cover
- The ability to fly lets Storm turn any piece of vertical cover, (wall, building, 2nd story floor, etc.) into her personal head glitch spot.
- Technically there is no, “head glitching,” in Rivals but you still can limit the amount of Storm’s hurtbox that is exposed to the enemy team in this manner.
- Dip below the cover, and peek over to shoot.
- Pierces Through Enemies
- Try and take advantage of the piercing quality of Wind Blade. Positions in ways where you line up multiple targets for your projectile to hit through.
- Especially good for farming ult quickly.
- Position High
- Creates Vertical off-angles which splits enemy attention.
- Position Low
- When facing multiple hitscan enemies, Storm is safer when positioned low near her team and next to walls.
- Also makes piercing multiple enemies more likely.
Secondary Fire: Bolt Rush
DESCRIPTION | Unleash a lightning bolt forward |
KEY | Right Click |
CASTING | Straight Spell Field |
RANGE | A cylindrical spell field with a radius of 1m and a height of 40m |
DAMAGE | 80 |
COOLDOWN | 8s |
Tips for Bolt Rush
- Hitscan
- Unlike her primary fire, it is important to remember you don’t have lead Bolt Rush shots as it is a hitscan weapon.
- Finish off Targets
- It is quick, has a large hitbox, and is a hitscan. These qualities make Bolt Rush perfect for finishing off targets attempting to escape to cover.
- Peel for Backline
- When your backline is being attacked by a high-mobility flanker, Bolt Rush is the perfect tool to help defend your ally. A quick 80+ damage can be enough to give your teammates the upper hand in the duel.
[SHIFT]: Weather Control
DESCRIPTION | Switch the weather to empower allies: Tornado grants a Movement Boost; Thunder grants a Damage Boost |
KEY | SHIFT |
CASTING | Spherical Spell Field |
RANGE | 15m spherical radius |
Tornado
MOVEMENT BOOST (SELF) | 16% |
MOVEMENT BOOST (ALLY) | 8% |
Thunder
DAMAGE BOOST (SELF) | 16% |
DAMAGE BOOST (ALLY) | 8% |
Tips for Weather Control
- Can’t Attack While Switching
- Before engaging in a duel, you’ll need to have already chosen which boost you’ll be using. Once a duel has started, you’re pretty much committed as swapping gives the enemy extra time to eliminate Storm.
- Situationally use Speed or Damage
- Choosing which boost is better is extremely situational. To give you a simple way to gauge which effect to have activated consider the following:
- Wind Speed boost for movement and dodging.
- Lightning Damage boost when not in immediate danger of dying
[E]: Goddess Boost
DESCRIPTION | Channel the power of the weather to empower Storm: Tornado grants a Movement Boost and inflicts Slow on enemies; Thunder grants a Damage Boost and summons lightning to inflict damage |
KEY | E |
CASTING | Spherical Spell Field |
RANGE | 15m spherical radius |
DURATION | 8s |
COOLDOWN | 15s |
Enhanced Tornado
MOVEMENT BOOST (SELF) | 40% |
MOVEMENT BOOST (ALLY) | 20% |
ENEMY SLOW RATE | -15% |
Enhanced Thunder
DAMAGE BOOST (SELF) | 30% |
DAMAGE BOOST (ALLY) | 12% |
STRIKE FREQUENCY | 2s per strike |
DAMAGE | 35 |
Tips for Goddess Boost
- Save for 1v1 Duels
- When the enemy team has shown they have someone trying to duel you, whether that is a Punisher, Spider-Man, Iron Man, or any other hero, save Goddess Boost for the duel.
Trying to KO an enemy in a 1v1 without Goddess Boost is extremely difficult as most heroes will have much higher damage per second potential than Storm.
- When the enemy team has shown they have someone trying to duel you, whether that is a Punisher, Spider-Man, Iron Man, or any other hero, save Goddess Boost for the duel.
- Pay Attention to the Number of Heroes in the AoE
- Just below your crosshair, you’ll see the number of allies on the left and enemies on the right.
- When possible, maximize the number of allies you are buffing as well as the number of enemies you are slowing or damaging.
- Having multiple enemies in the lighting damage AoE is great for farming your ult.
- Be Selfish
- The benefit of Goddess Boost vs Weather Control for Storms allies is not very significant. Storm gains a far greater buff from Goddess Boost than do her allies so make sure you can personally can utilize its buff.
Ultimate: Omega Hurricane
DESCRIPTION | Transform into a hurricane to draw in nearby enemies and deal damage |
KEY | Q |
CASTING | Spherical Spell Field |
MAXIMUM SELECTION DURATION | 5s |
TORNADO DURATION | 5s |
RANGE | 8m spherical radius |
ATTACK INTERVAL | 2 hits per second |
DAMAGE | 75 |
BONUS HEALTH (SELF) | 450 |
ENERGY COST | 3100 |
SPECIAL EFFECT | Weather effects will be disabled during the Ultimate |
Tips for Omega Hurricane
- Target Duelists and Strategists
- If a Vanguard is at full health, even the entire Duration of Omega Hurrican won’t be enough to eliminate them.
- Hold Secondary Fire
- Holding secondary fire gives Storm an overhead view and allows her activation target to jump up and down from high ground.
- You're Not Invincible
- Don’t forget Storm can die during her ult. You get a maximum of 700 HP from overhealth which can easily be burnt through by high damage ults like Moon Knight or The Punisher’s.
- Wait out Defensive Ults
- Omega Hurricane gets negated by all defensive ults. Make sure the enemy team doesn’t have one available before activating your ult.
- Look for Groups
- The large AoE makes Omega Hurricane great for eliminating multiple targets at once.
[Team-Up]: Charged Gale
DESCRIPTION | Thor infuses Thorforce into Storm and Captain America, granting them an electrifying enhancement. With an electrifying enhancement, Storm can unleash a lightning barrage. With an electrifying enhancement, Captain America gains a Movement Boost, and his shield is imbued with thunder power, electrocuting nearby enemies |
KEY | C |
MAXIMUM DISTANCE | 60m |
MAXIMUM BOUNCE DISTANCE | 5m |
MAXIMUM NUMBER OF BOUNCES | 3 |
LIGHTNING DAMAGE | 55 |
COOLDOWN | 15s |
TEAM-UP TARGET | Thor |
SPECIAL EFFECT | Each enemy can only be struck by lightning once per cast |
Tips for Charged Gale
- Only for Multiple Targets
- A 15 second cooldown is too long to waste on a single target as the damage is exactly the same as her normal primary fire.
- An Extra Hitscan
- Similar to Bolt Rush, Charged Gale can be a reliable tool for finishing off low HP targets due to its hitscan property.
- Don’t Force Thor
- Charged Gale isn’t so powerful as to make a Vanguard’s swap to Thor worth it. If they were already going to run Thor, then that’s great. If not, it is usually better to let them run who they are most comfortable using.
Synergies
Team Comp Synergies
Storm’s kit is very versatile which gives team comps built around her a lot of flexibility. The primary qualities her team needs are to be able to provide healing to her from a good distance and create pressure from a different angle than her.
Storm doesn’t want the attention on her since she has low health and no escape tools. Instead, she thrives when her team uses their pressure to take the attention off of her. This can be done through flanks or frontline assaults. Either way, when Storm is given the freedom to spam she rakes in those MVPs.
Example of Team Comp Built Around Storm:
- Vanguards: Groot, Thor
- Duelists: Storm, Star-Lord
- Strategists: Luna Snow, Mantis
Hero Synergies
Vanguard: Groot
Groot's walls can sometimes be a nuisance to his own team by getting in the way of them dealing damage to the enemy. Not a problem when you can easily fly above the wall to shoot over them.
Moreover, the slight verticality of Groot’s walls becomes the perfect mobile cover for Storm to peek and dip over. When both heroes have their ults available to combo, very little can be done to stop a team wipe from quickly occurring.
Duelist: Star-Lord
Speaking of teammates who can pull attention away from Storm, no one does it better than Star-Lord. His positional Versatility means these two can always spit off from each other and create multiple angles of attacks and pressure.
The enemy team can’t afford to ignore either threat. Unless you're facing a highly coordinated top-level team, the chaos caused by these two heroes alone is enough to be its own win condition.
Strategist: Luna Snow
Luna Snow's Share the Stage is the perfect Strategist ability to pair with Storm. Just as splitting the enemy's attention creates difficulty for them, splitting your Strategist’s healing attention can also be difficult.
Placing Share the Stage on Storm allows Luna to keep her attention towards the fight while providing enough sustain to keep Storm attacking as well. When Storm is in danger, whether that be from an enemy ult, or after doing deep with Omega Hurricane, Fate of Both Worlds practically guarantees Storm’s life will be saved.
