Diablo 4 Dungeon Vaults Guide

In Diablo 4 Season of the Construct, there is a new dungeon mechanic known as Vaults.

This Vaults guide covers how they work and their locations along with tips and tricks for clearing them.

What are Diablo 4 Vaults?

The new Dungeons in Diablo 4, known to us as Vaults, are going to be part of the new Questline that is introduced in the Season of the Construct.

They’re much different than the traditional Dungeons that you’ve experienced thus far, sporting a high concentration of deadly traps that were specifically designed for this season. You’ll have to learn how to outplay these traps to make it out alive.

These vaults also have a chance to spawn a boss known as “Son of Malphas,” who is similar in strength to the butcher and contains a “Death Room” that you must survive for 30 seconds, filled with traps and respawning elites. These vaults can also spawn the Butcher and Goblins.

The last Vault, also known as “Daddy Vault” or Vault of Loom, doesn’t contain a Death Room like the others but includes a Demon boss known as Malphas who’s taken possession of a deadly construct.

Where are Dungeon Vaults?

As mentioned, there are five different kinds of vaults. Four of these have basic versions that can be turned into Nightmare versions. The basic version can be found in the open world, similar to dungeons. They’ll appear on your map and shouldn’t be too hard to spot.

The other vaults, such as Nightmare Vaults, are opened with a Vault Sigil key, which you can teleport straight into, but their entrance can be found in Gatehall.

Vault List

  • Vault of Cinders (fire) – Dry Steppes
  • Vault of Copper (lightning) – Scosglen
  • Vault of Stone (ice) – Fractured Peaks
  • Vault of Ink (Poison) – Hawezar
  • Vault of Loom – UBER Vault in Kehjistan

Dungeon Vault Mechanics

Along with Constructs and Traps, the Vaults will have a few other mechanics attached to them.

Zultan’s Warding

Firstly, “Zultan’s Warding” is a unique buff that players gain once they interact with statues found at the start of every Vault. You’ll need a Pearl of Warding to interact with the statue, giving the player three stacks of Zultan’s Warding.

Once the player has three stacks, they can begin their trial into the Vault. If the player is hit by a trap once inside the Vault, they will lose one stack.

It’s worth keeping this mechanic in mind as you’ll earn greater reward the more stacks you have at the end of a Vault, as they’ll be used to open Wardwoven Chests.

Wardwoven Chests

These are special chests that the player can interact with at the end of a Vault if they still have stacks of Zultan’s Warding.

Nightmare Dungeon Vaults

Nightmare Vaults are, in essence, better versions of Dungeon Vaults that unlock after World Tier 3; they’re much more challenging, and the monster level is far higher. They also contain much greater loot and more chests requiring 10 “Zultan’s Warding” to open.

They’re opened using Vault Sigil keys and have affixes attached to them, similar to Nightmare Sigils. They also have a chance to proc a secondary beneficial affix called “Extra Shrine”, increasing the amount of shrines within the dungeon- unfortunately, they only proc in the first part of the Dungeon; thus you won’t benefit from its entire duration.

Vault Sigil Crafting

You’ll have to head to the Occultist, the same Occultist you craft normal Nightmare Sigils at, to craft a Vault Sigil; there, you can craft Sigils for different tiers, and for the 4 Vault types mentioned, you won’t be able to craft a Sigil for Vault of Loom.

You’ll need two different materials to craft the Vault Sigil keys.

  • Sigil Powder: This can be obtained by salvaging Nightmare Dungeon and Vault Sigils.
  • Shattered Stones: Can be obtained by defeating Construct enemies in Season 3.

Vault Objectives and Strategies

The Baby Vaults can be tackled by running to get the stone/key and surviving a Death room for 30 seconds. These are filled with traps and respawning elites, so be careful.

The Daddy Vault, or Vault of Loom, is a four-stone/key objective without any death room but has a guaranteed boss called Malphas.

Although it takes longer, another way to complete these and guarantee stacks of Zultan’s Warding is to enter the dungeon without taking Zultan’s Warding, run to the last room, and then run back to the entrance, taking the stacks. This way, you will not lose any stacks from fighting enemies as you progress through the dungeon.

Dungeon Vault Boss (Malphas)

The Vault boss, now known as Malphas, will be a new Boss coming to the Season of Construct. specific to the Vault of Loom. He’ll sport a whole kit of new mechanics and be stationary.

Being stationary will allow the boss fight to contain a host of traps within the boss room, further increasing the difficulty for the player.

The Vault Malphas resides in requires 10 pearls to enter and has no Nightmare equivalent.

In conclusion

This Season is shaping up to be impressive; the Vaults sound amazing, and spicing up the gameplay with a host of deadly traps that must be mechanically dodged for greater rewards is a great mechanic. I, for one, can’t wait to delve into these Vaults for those greater rewards.
