Everyone loves free stuff, and in League of Legends, there have been different ways you could get free skins over time. Riot Games’ used to give free skins for a variety of things, such as at PAX events, as a part of Amazon Prime, and of course, hitting certain ranks in League of Legends.

Riot used to give quite a few skins away in the past. You were guaranteed RP and a skin every month with Amazon Prime, but they unfortunately discounted that. While this was one of the best way to get a random skin and potentially a skin you would like with RP, there are still some good ways you can get free skins in LoL, and in this Mobalytics article, we will break down the best method to get skins in LoL- for FREE!

1. Complete the Battlepasses

It seems like every patch, or so, Riot creates a new event. Each event can be played 1 of 2 ways. You can invest some RP to get more rewards, or you can be a free-to-play player and get some basic but worthwhile rewards.

By completing the battle pass and using your event tokens, you will be guaranteed to get at enough tokens, which you can exchange for either keys or an orb. An orb is guaranteed to get at least 1 skin you can either disenchant or add to your account.

Make sure you use the battle passes whenever they are out for free skins!

2. Getting a Good Score

In season 14, Riot changed the system to reward you for getting the S reward. Previously, you could just play any champion and get an S, and assuming you had chests available, you would get a free chest.

Now the way it works is you need to get a high score on a champion in your list. Head to your profile and the champions section. At the top, there are 12 chests you can unlock, and if you hover over a champion on the list, you can see what you need to get a chest on them.

For the first reward for every champion, you need a Grade B or higher, and 4 games of C and higher. If you just main one of these champions, or play them for a day or so, you’ll easily get this chest.

If you also click on the champion, you can see what other rewards are available as you play them more. Focusing on these champions every season will allow you to get a lot of free loot by just playing the game!

3. Ranked Queue

The Ranked system is one of the main reasons people play League of Legends. The Ranked Queue is extremely popular, and day to day, millions of players across the world fight it out in order to climb the ranked ladder. In previous years, Riot gave a skin to players who finished the season above gold, however in more recent times, you can now get more skins just by playing ranked.

By hitting gold in different splits, you can get a skin. By playing ranked, you can earn Hextech Chest and get keys, which can be used to open chests that might contain skins. All-in-all, playing the Ranked Queue can give you free skins, if you want to play it. But I understand that not everyone likes Ranked, but it’s there for those who do.

4. Remain Honourable

One of the simplest things you can do to earn additional skins in League is to stay honourable. Being honourable in LoL is very important as you are not only setting an example for your fellow players, but you can also get additional rewards by remaining honourable.

For the past few years, Riot has given skins to players who have remained honour level 5. In season 12, they gave everyone Three Honor Malzahar, and last year they gave everyone Three Honor Akshan.

5. Clash Tournaments

For those who love a competitive environment, another way you can get additional chests and skins is by winning Clash Tournaments. In League, there are 2 forms of Clash Tournaments. The first is 5v5 Summoners Rift, and then the next is ARAM. If you’re good enough, you can participate with friends or strangers and try to win the tournament and get some additional chests.

Out of all the things so far, this is probably the hardest as you only get really once chance, and it can be quite hard to actually win games and do well in Clash, so I wouldn’t do this if you’re not a fan of ranked or that environment. Similarly, there are times where you will just be unable to participate in events, and it’s not like Riot does them every day either.
