Overview

Enhancement Shaman have been significantly updated for WoW Forever compared to Classic, and in many great and exciting ways which helps your leveling journey. Enhance will be very easy for new players to pick up and do well with.

Enhance is the fastest and easiest way to level to 60, and this guide will show you everything you need to know to get tehre.

WoW Forever unique aspects of Enhance Shaman:

  • Rage of the Farseer gives a huge offensive cooldown, basically bloodlust
  • Stormstrike you can get at level 25, and the cooldown is only 8-seconds
  • Windfury Weapon is very powerful, similar to classic in the high amount of burst damage
  • Fire Nova is available early giving AOE damage most other classes don't get until later
  • Mental Dexterity gives Enhance Shaman many ways to gear and optimize for damage
  • Maelstrom Weapon allows mana-free casts and encourages chain pulling

And other talents from Enhance/Restoration which are now revamped as options:

  • Improved Ghost Wolf allows Ghost Wolf can be instant cast and can be used inside, the fastest movement speed before mounts
  • Water Shield now gives 2% mana when you get hit, or critically strike with a spell

All of these tools make Enhance Shaman fresh and exciting for WoW Forever.

DISCLAIMER: This is based on beta testing, and will not include Legacy talent points for talent build. Further updates to be build will come in the future with launch and as new things are discovered.

Guide Variants

TLDR: Prioritizing getting Stormstrike and Improved Stormstrike, then pivot for Water Shield, then finishing off the rest of the damage talents. This is my recommended path for everyone to take for the smoothest leveling experience to max level, mainly through solo world quests, and doing dungeons at least once for quest and some drops.

Talent Selection specifics:

  • Level 10 to 14 - Thundering Strikes - as biggest damage increase for crit-rate
  • Level 15, 16, 17 - Mental Dexterity to immediately give a boost to attack power from your intellect
  • Level 18, 19 - Improved Ghost Wolf to get instant cast ghost wolf which saves so much time early game with running
  • Level 20 - Shamanistic Focus to reduce mana cost of shocks
  • Level 21, 22, 23 - Elemental Weapons to buff Flametongue Weapon, and eventually Windfury Weapon
  • Level 24 - Anticipation for dodge, which will help Improved Stormstrike
  • Level 25 - Stormstrike as the most important offensive ability
  • Level 37,38,39,40,41 - Flurry for increased attack speed, which compounds damage with Windfury Weapon
  • Level 41 - Improved Stormstrike for mana regen

Mana usage is a serious concern for Shaman while leveling, if using Stormstrike on cooldown, Shocks, and in Dungeons Fire Nova you will go out of mana. I recommend taking a detour within Resto at this point to get Water Shield to mostly resolve this issue for the rest of your leveling experience - especially while solo questing.

  • Level 42,43,44,45,46 - Tidal Focus to get more hit rating
  • Level 47,48,49 - Mindfulness for mana regeneration
  • Level 50,51 - Totemic Focus for less mana cost for totems
  • Level 52 - Water Shield for maximum mana sustain, and now you should keep Water Shield always active

Now back to Enhance tree:

  • Leve 42,43- Mental Quickness to get more spell damage for shocks and soon for Maelstrom Weapon
  • Level 44 - Flurry to reach the next tier
  • Level 45 - Anticipation for increased dodge
  • Level 46,47,48,49,50 - Maelstrom Weapon
  • Level 51 - Rage of the Farseer as a huge offensive cooldown (if you went pure Enhance tree would would get this at level 40)

Now shifting to the Elemental tree for more damage and critical rate:

  • Level 52,53,54,55,56 - Concussion for more shock and Lightning Bolt damage
  • Level 57,58,59 - Elemental Devastation for more critical strike chance on melee, which feeds Flurry
  • Level 60 - Spirit Weapons for decreased threat generation in dungeons

Gameplay and Rotation

TLDR: Enhancement Shaman can do an insane amount of burst damage using their primary offensive cooldown Rage of the Farseer , while able to continuously kill mobs benefiting from Windfury Weapon + Stormstrike.

Before combat:

  1. Windfury Weapon on your weapon (Flametongue Weapon / Rockbiter Weapon when less than level 30)
  2. Water Shield to maximize the mana refunding by being hit or spell critical strikes (Lightning Shield when you don't have Water Shield yet)
  3. Drop your preset 4 totems via Call of the Elements:
    1. Flametongue Totem
    2. Strength of Earth Totem
    3. Mana Spring Totem
    4. Grace of Air Totem

Single Target Open World Rotation:

  1. From range Flame Shock if the mob will survive for 12 seconds
  2. Cast Rage of the Farseer
  3. Cast Stormstrike
  4. Cast Earth Shock, depending on whichever does more damage, or if your threat is too high use Frost Shock (Stormstrike increases the Nature damage taken by 20% for the next Earth Shock/Lightning bolt)
  5. Cast Lightning Bolt , once you have 5x stacks of Maelstrom Weapon
  6. If your mana gets low, or the mob is <20% health, don't cast anymore to get full mana generation (which starts 5-seconds after casting)

AOE Rotation:

  1. Place Magma Totem for AOE damage, relocate the totem with Totemic Projection as needed
  2. Cast Fire Nova to AOE, on cooldown with 3+ mobs
  3. Cast Stormstrike on highest health target
  4. Cast Flame Shock on different targets, focusing on highest health mobs
  5. If your mana gets low, or the mob is <20% health, don't cast anymore to get full mana generation (which starts 5-seconds after casting)

Gear

Leveling Gear from Dungeons:

As Enhancement, we can use Leather gear until being able to use Mail gear at level 40.

As you level you want to follow the dungeons and dungeon quests to get great pieces of gear which will make leveling significantly easier!:

Stat Priority

Gearing in WoW Forever has changed with increased amount of gear with Spell Power.

Priority:

  1. Critical Strike Chance: Very important for Flurry and Elemental Devastation (uncommon until late game)
  2. Strength: Increasing the attack damage by 2-attack power per point of Strength
  3. Attack Power: Increasing overall damage of physical melee damage
  4. Intellect: Increases mana pool, and increases spell critical strike chance, with Mental Dexterity Intellect converts to Attack Power
  5. Agility: Increasing melee critical strike chance, dodge, and armor. Since it doesn't increase attack power we will not primarily stack this though many pieces will also have this stat.
  6. Spell Power: This stat will benefit your Earth Shock/ Flame Shock / Frost Shock and Lightning Bolt though Maelstrom Weapon, but not your melee damage
    1. Depending on how important Maelstrom Weapon will be, this may increase in priority later
  7. Spirit: Increases mana regeneration when not casting for 5-seconds, or once you have Mindfulness / Improved Stormstrike
  8. Hit Chance: Not a priority while leveling since you will generally be fighting mobs around your level

If you find yourself sitting between mobs too much, you can stat more Spirit which will help with Mindfulness / Improved Stormstrike

Consumables

Consumables are not required, but can help keep make leveling smooth.

Experience buff food. New in WoW Forever, there is food which increases experience gain by 5%. Most food gives this buff, select the cheapest option, even if from lower level as the main objective is to get +5% experience from kills:

  • Smoked Sagefish
  • Longjaw Mud Snapper
  • Bristle Whisker Catfish
  • Smoked Bear Meat
  • Crispy Bat Wing
  • Twice-Spiced Raptor Slice

Health potions can help you avoid death to allow you to keep leveling:

  • Search "Healing Potion" in the auction house to find which is cheapest and/or at your level. You can take lower level potions if cheap to consume very frequently.

Mana potions reduce time between mobs and are usually very cheap:

  • Search "Mana Potion" in the auction house to find which is cheapest and/or at your level. You can take lower level potions if cheap to consume very frequently.

Consumables increasing stats for more damage and survivability:

  • Level < 10:
    • Minor Mageblood Elixir giving 3 mana every 5 seconds for 30 minutes.
    • Elixir of Minor Strength giving 4 strength for 60 minutes
    • Elixir of Minor Spirit buffing Spirit by 3 for 30 minutes.
    • Coarse Sharpening Stone / Coarse Weightstone to increase weapon damage
  • Level 10-20 new items:
    • Elixir of Wisdom giving +6 intellect for 60 minutes (if cheap).
  • Level 20-30 new items:
    • Lesser Mageblood Elixir giving 6 mana every 5 seconds for 30 minutes.
    • Elixir of Ogre Strength increasing Strength by 8 for 60 minutes.
    • Elixir of Lesser Spirit buffing Spirit by 6 for 30 minutes.
    • Lesser Troll's Blood Elixir: This lets you regenerate 6 Health every 5 seconds for 60 minutes.
    • Continue using Solid Sharpening Stone / Solid Weightstone to increase weapon damage as you level

Including level 30+ items once more information is known with launch

Tips & Tricks

Read these tips and follow these for a seamless leveling experience:

  1. Enjoy the auto-attack Windfury casino: While slower versions of WoW can feel like a grind, take it easy with Enhancement and allow Windfury Weapon to carry you through leveling. You don't need to setup totems, shock, and optimize each mob. Enhance lets you go at your own pace.
  2. Maximize mana mob to mob: The most important way to level smoothly as Enhance Shaman is optimizing mana, it is critical to be aware of how mana generation works in WoW Forever. You must stop casting for 5 seconds, which will trigger mana to start generation. This means you once mobs are <20% finish the mob with melee, or allow Searing Totem and Flame Shock to finish the mob. This allows you to start mana generation early.
  3. Focus on Dungeon quests: (Dungeon Journal addon is great to help find quests. Dungeon quest rewards and dungeons drops will help leveling smooth for you.
  4. The Relic slot will be empty for a while, unless you pick Enchanting and craft Polished Driftwood Icon, the only accessible option you will receive from your Fire Totem quest is Totem of Charged Flames but this does not really help Enhance Shaman much.
  5. Buy mana potions, or health potions, if you need them: Buy cheap mana potions/health potions and pop them like candy if they can help keep your leveling experience smooth. Lower level potions are mass produced so grab them!
  6. Mana tip: Totemic Recall's 25% refund should be used if moving away from where you place totems to get mana back.
  7. Use Rank1 Earth Shock for interrupting mobs, if conserving mana.
  8. Learn all your weapon specializations early, as you reach each of the faction cities.

Playable Races

For Shaman, there are multiple strong options for Races, almost all are viable and seem strong for different situations.

Horde

Tauren

Recently buffed Tauren brings multiple offensive, defensive and utility racials:

  • The strongest stat racial of all Endurance giving 5% hp, but more importantly 2% critical strike bonus for damage and healing is very significant since critical strike is a priority for Shaman
  • War Stomp a great 2 second AOE stun, now on a 1.5 minute cooldown
  • Plainsrunning a quality of life movements speed buff which will help before we get Ghost Wolf at level 20
  • Cultivation is only for professions/gold.

Troll

Strongest of the horde in offensive capabilities, though not as durable as other races (Tauren/Orc)

  • Berserking is a strong haste buff and offensive cooldown, stacking this with potentially Rage of the Farseer will likely be an insane combinations for single target burst
  • Beast Slaying giving +5% against beasts will surely add value in the future
  • Rapid Regeneration is decent while leveling, though does not help with mana
  • Regeneration is nice for leveling but generally not too valuable

Orc

Due to recent updates during Beta, Orc is still strong, particularly for PvP but for PvE they were slightly nerfed:

  • Blood Fury being a 3-minute cooldown for increased damage for attack and spellpower is strong for Shaman
  • Shatter Curse is a great cleanse and slight increase defensive against magic
  • Savage increasing critical strike chance by 1% overall which is great for Shaman for Flurry / Elemental Devastation
  • Hardiness is not use valuable in leveling or PvE, only really PvP

Skyborne

The new WoW Forever race, with strong base stat buffs, utility and mobility. It is the most unproven and with +3% haste and dependency on fighting elementals for +5% it is unclear how strong they will be.

  • 3% Haste from Wind Blessed , helping out cast and melee speed
  • Elemental Insight for +5% damage against elementals, though it is unclear how often we will face elementals
  • Skysight giving movement speed as a nice quality of life
  • Walk on Air allowing for jumping off cliffs in style

Alliance

Dwarf

The only option on Alliance, bringing strong offensive damage passives:

  • Earth Fury 2% critical strike bonus for damage and healing is very significant since critical strike is a priority for Shaman
  • Big Game Hunter giving +5% against beasts will surely add value in the future
  • Stoneform is a great defensive and cleanse which can be useful defensively
  • Find Treasure is only for fun/gold.

Campfire Buffs

For leveling you do not want to spend much time optimizing for Campfires, but if you find the following you want get these buffs to help:

  • Mana Well giving mana regeneration
  • Camp Tent giving a chunk of rested experience every hour
  • Lodestone giving melee Attack Power
  • Fish Bowl giving 8% stats
  • Incense Candle giving Intellect

Professions

For leveling there are professions which can help, though are not "required", but these are my recommendations:

  1. Enchanting , which is very easy to level compared to other versions of the game, has a Polished Driftwood Icon from Merchant Favors which come from completing crates like Waylaid Crate: Apprentice Herbs (for example). Since this is Bind on Pickup, you can drop Enchanting after getting this item.
  2. Alchemy / Herbalism , in WoW Forever there are significantly more herbalism nodes generally, this will allow you to be self sufficient and create mana potions if helpful to you
  3. Leatherworking / Skinning - with skinning being the easiest way to gather materials and there being more crafting recipes than ever this can be a good combination and relatively easy to be self sufficient
  4. First Aid is a useful to use the cloth from mobs, and recover health without spending mana on Healing Wave to recover.

Totem Utility

What changed for all totems

  • Longer reach and duration. Most totems now last 5 minutes and reach 30 yards. The exceptions keep short timers: Searing Totem(30–55 sec depending on rank), Magma Totem(20 sec), Stoneclaw Totem (15 sec), Earthbind Totem and Grounding Totem (45 sec), and Mana Tide Totem (12 sec).
  • Totem Bar sets. Call of the Elements (20), Call of the Ancestors(30) and Call of the Spirits (40) each are presets to drop up to four totems from their own saved set, in one 3 second cast.
  • Totemic Recall (20) Totemic Recall, picks your totems back up and refunds 25% of each one’s mana.
  • Totemic Projection (22) Totemic Projection moves your active totems to a spot up to 30 yards away.
  • You still need the totem items. Every totem spell requires the item from individual class quests for its element.
