What is camping?

Camping lets players build a shared campsite around a campfire. Other players can visit, contribute profession made objects, sit by the fire and pick up useful buffs. Camps can also provide services such as repairs, reagent vendors and crafting stations. You do not need to be in a party with the person who made the camp.

How to unlock camping

  • At around level 5, pick up The Great Outdoors quest.
  • Sit at the campfire beside the quest giver using /sit.
  • Follow the quest to town and train Cooking to learn how to make your own Basic Campfire.
  • Train and level a profession to learn its camp object. The first objects become available at profession skill 20 through the introductory NPCs or profession trainers.

Beginner tip: You can benefit from someone else’s camp even if you cannot make its objects yourself. When Campfire Nearby appears on your buff bar, look around for a campsite, sit beside its fire for roughly one minute, then check which buffs you received. Sitting or crafting near the fire counts towards that minute.

Building a campsite

A Basic Campfire has room for three additional camp features. A Journeyman Campfire holds five, and an Expert Campfire holds ten. Each player can contribute one object to a camp, so other players are needed to fill the remaining spaces. Placed features share a one hour cooldown for the player contributing them. campfire items have a five minute cooldown.

Campfire buffs last one hour once earned. Most combat buffs are alternatives to matching class buffs: they do not stack with those class effects. The camp’s food buff and the tents rested experience benefit work differently, so check those separately.

Which camp buffs should you look for?

  • Levelling: A Camp Tent is useful when you have little rested XP. Pick up any relevant combat buffs while you sit, and refresh your food buff before leaving.
  • Physical damage: Look for a Sharpening Wheel, Lodestone and Camp Chair, while remembering that their effects do not stack with the matching class buffs.
  • Mana users: A Mana Well and Incense Candle may be useful, depending on your class and existing buffs.
  • Long trips away from town: An Engineering Repair Bot gives the camp repairs and reagent access.
  • Fishing or gathering: Look for a Fishing Rack or Hut, Greenhouse, or Rock Garden for their extra utility.

These are practical choices based on what each object provides, rather than a fixed best setup for every class.

Useful details people miss

You can use another player’s campsite. Watch for the Campfire Nearby indicator, sit down for a minute and check the camp’s available objects. You do not have to join their group.

A larger fire does not automatically give more buffs. It creates more spaces; players still have to place objects in them. Each player can add one object.

Upgraded objects keep their original benefit. For example, an Anvil retains the Sharpening Wheel’s Strength benefit while adding an anvil.

Food is another reason to stop. A campfire lets you cook or refresh food while waiting for camp buffs. Forever’s updated crafted foods can provide stat boosts and a small experience benefit, depending on the food.

Legacy perks can improve camping. Currently listed perks include Reagent Economy for tier one camp feature crafting costs, Field Guide for reducing the cooldown on adding camp features, and Permanence for longer lasting benefits gained from resting at a camp.

Quick camping checklist

  • Complete The Great Outdoors.
  • Learn Cooking and make a Basic Campfire, or find another player’s camp.
  • Look at the objects around the fire and pick a camp with benefits you need.
  • Sit or craft near the fire for one minute.
  • Check your buff bar, eat if needed, repair or use the workstations, then carry on questing.
  • Return when your one hour camp buffs expire.
