Several talents work together to make this specialization incredibly powerful.
Demonic Brand is the defining talent. Your
Searing Pain brands the target for 10 seconds, causing your demon's next three attacks to deal additional Fire or Shadow damage. Shadow damage also generates substantial threat.
This completely changes your relationship with your pet. You can maintain Brand on multiple enemies, increase your pet's threat generation, and confidently spread your DoTs without immediately pulling aggro.
Demonic Energies is arguably just as important. It heals your pet for 15% of the spell damage you deal, and whenever you gain Mana from
Life Tap, your demon gains the same amount.
This creates an incredibly efficient resource loop. You're dealing damage, healing your demon, and replenishing both Mana pools without having to stop constantly.
Soul Link provides 30% damage sharing with your pet, giving Demonology significantly better survivability.
Demonic Knowledge grants you and your demon additional spell damage equal to your level at 3/3. That's 40 spell power at level 40 and 60 at level 60.
Finally,
Demonic Pact allows you to maintain your
Demonic Sacrifice bonus while having a different demon summoned.
The most interesting combination is sacrificing your Imp for 15% increased Shadow damage, then summoning your Voidwalker or Succubus. Summoning the same demon you sacrificed cancels the bonus.
Demonology revolves around getting maximum value from your pet while minimizing unnecessary spellcasting.
Single Target Rotation
- Open with
Bane of Agony and
Corruption. - Apply
Immolate when the enemy will survive long enough to justify it. - Use
Searing Pain to apply
Demonic Brand once talented. - Send your demon to attack and establish threat.
- Finish with wand damage or
Drain Life when you need healing. - Refresh
Demonic Brand as needed to keep your demon empowered.
Don't blindly cast every spell on every enemy. Against weaker mobs, your demon, two DoTs, and a strong wand might be all you need.
Two Target Cleave
This is where Demonology starts feeling REALLY good.
Apply
Bane of Agony,
Corruption, and
Immolate to one enemy, then apply
Demonic Brand and let your demon tank it.
Meanwhile, you engage a second target yourself using DoTs, wand damage, and
Drain Life for sustain.
With proper pet management, you're effectively running two separate damage rotations simultaneously.
For three or more targets, use
Fear to control additional enemies, but remember that Affliction generally has superior tools for sustained mass pulling.
Resource Management
Life Tap is your defining resource tool. With
Demonic Energies, you're now restoring your demon's Mana at the same time.
Use
Drain Life when you need Health, not simply because it's available. A strong wand can provide superior damage without costing Mana.
The goal is to keep fighting without unnecessary drinking or waiting for your pet to recover.
Curses and Utility
One of the biggest changes in WoW Forever is that Banes and Curses are separate, allowing you to maintain
Bane of Agony while using a utility Curse on the same enemy.
@Curse of Recklessness: Extremely valuable for Demonology because reducing enemy Armor increases your demon's physical damage. It also prevents enemies from fleeing and can be used to control
Fear interactions.
Curse of Weakness: Particularly powerful at lower levels and against physical enemies. The flat damage reduction can substantially reduce incoming damage.
Curse of the Elements: Increases magical damage taken, making it valuable when your own spells or other casters contribute most of the damage.
Curse of Tongues: Excellent against dangerous caster enemies and in PvP.
Curse of Exhaustion: A powerful ranged slow for kiting, escaping, and controlling enemy positioning.
Choose your Curse based on the situation rather than automatically applying the same one every pull.
