Overview

Legacy Points are a new achievement system that rewards you with points to spend in a special passive tree, which you can access by pressing Y (the default keybind).

Legacy Points are account-wide, allowing you to use points earned on one character to strengthen your alts. Points are also shared between PvE and PvP rulesets, and you can spend a maximum of 16 Legacy Points at launch.

Getting Legacy Points

Gotta unlock them all!

You'll likely earn several Legacy Points naturally as you level your character. While there are many achievements that reward Legacy Points, here are some of the most notable ones to work toward.

Character Level Milestones

Reach levels 25, 45, and 60 with each class for the first time. Each class counts separately, allowing you to earn additional Legacy Points by leveling different classes.

Crafting Profession Milestones

Reach skill levels 150, 225, and 300 in a crafting profession for the first time. Each crafting profession counts separately, allowing you to earn additional points by leveling multiple professions.

Novice Spelunker

Complete the following dungeons:

Ragefire Chasm or Hall of Thanes, Ruins of Lordaeron, Wailing Caverns, The Deadmines, Shadowfang Keep, and Excavation Site: Wetlands.

Experienced Spelunker

Complete the following dungeons:

City of Dalaran, Blackfathom Deeps, Gnomeregan, The Drowned City, Scarlet Monastery (Graveyard, Library, Armory, and Cathedral), Razorfen Kraul, and Krol'dok Stronghold.

Master Spelunker

Complete the following dungeons:

Razorfen Downs, Uldaman, Zul'Farrak, Maraudon, Alcaz Prison, The Temple of Atal'Hakkar, Blackrock Depths, Blackmaw Hold, Lower and Upper Blackrock Spire, Scholomance, Stratholme (Live and Dead), Dire Maul (East, North, and West), and The Shaper's Terrace.

How Many Points Will You Have?

Start with zero, maximum 16.

By the time you reach level 45, you'll likely have earned 4 to 5 Legacy Points through normal progression. This includes two points from character level milestones, two from dungeon achievements, and potentially one from a crafting profession.

You can invest these points into any of the three Legacy trees, but unlocking the higher-tier talents requires you to focus your points on a single tree.

With that in mind, let's look at some of the best ways to spend your Legacy Points while leveling.

Legacy Trees

There are three trees to chose from!

Professions

Working Overtime 5/5: Increases your chance to level up tradeskills by 20%.

Bountiful Harvest 5/5: Increases your chance to find Scarce materials from gathering by 100%.

Both talents offer useful benefits for players interested in professions. Working Overtime makes leveling crafting professions easier, potentially saving you time and gold, while Bountiful Harvest increases your chances of finding valuable materials while gathering. Both are excellent options for reducing expenses or earning extra gold while leveling.

Adventure

Thrill of Adventure 5/5: After dealing a killing blow to a non-trivial enemy, recover 5% of your maximum Health and Mana over 10 seconds. Does not work in Dungeons, Raids, or Battlegrounds.

Well Rested 5/5: Your rested XP accumulates 20% faster, and your maximum rested XP cap is increased by 20%.

Talented 5/5: Start earning talent points at level 5! Your maximum number of talent points remains at 51.

The Adventure tree is particularly strong for leveling, offering several benefits that directly improve your leveling experience. Thrill of Adventure provides additional Health and Mana recovery between fights, reducing downtime, while Well Rested allows you to accumulate more rested XP between play sessions. Talented is another excellent option, giving you access to talent points earlier in your leveling journey without increasing the total number of points available at level 60.

Resourcefulness

Gourmand 3/3: Increases the duration of food buffs by 100%.

Most food buffs only last 15 minutes, so doubling their duration to 30 minutes is a convenient quality-of-life improvement. This reduces how frequently you need to refresh your food buffs, saving you consumables and gold over time.

My Recommendation

The best for leveling fast.

Take Thrill of Adventure for the extra recovery while leveling. Recovering 5% of your maximum Health and Mana after a kill might not seem like much, but it adds up over time and helps reduce downtime between fights, allowing you to keep grinding longer.

Talented is another excellent option, but it requires investing 5 points into Well Rested first, making it unlikely that you'll unlock it on your first character. However, if you already have 6 to 10 Legacy Points available, Talented becomes a great option for unlocking powerful talents like Blade Flurry earlier.
