Use your favourite features in-game with our Desktop AppWaylaid Crates are a random world drop that can be used to unlock extremely powerful crafting recipes. There are several different types of crates, and each one has a different list of potential bundles. After filling a crate and turning it in, you will receive a currency called Merchant's Favor, which can be used to buy recipes.
Keep in mind that you only need 1 bundle from the list to fill the crate!
The reward is very powerful recipes. All of these recipes make items that are Bind On Pickup, meaning they cannot be traded with other players. This means the main reward is getting massive upgrades for your character, assuming you have the required Profession level.

Right outside the Crossroads you will find an npc named Dokimi with whom you can exchange your Waylaid Crates.
In the camp next to her you will find the vendors that will sell recipes.

In the crossing between Elwynn Forest and Red Ridge mountains there's a camp with all the vendors as well as Marcy Baker, who you can exchange your Waylaid Crates.

Because all of the recipes create Bind on Pickup items, you should look to make items that are strong for your character. One of the most OP things about this system is the ability to buy recipes for specific slots, allowing you to easily upgrade your worst items.
Waylaid Crates are random world drops, but they are also tradable. If you want to get some the easiest way is to purchase them from the auction house.
Short answer yes - long answer it depends. The profession recipes you unlock are simply incredibly powerful, and the level requirement on some of these items is surprisingly low. There's also a massive first time bonus reward for your first crate, allowing you to instantly buy a recipe.
If you have some spare gold while leveling the amount of power that comes from Waylaid Crates makes it very worthwhile.
A normal crate only gives 5 Merchant's favor, but the first one you turn in will give a bonus 50. This allows you to immediately buy a recipe, and because recipes are only 30 Merchant's Favor each you can buy another recipe with just 1 more crate. Use this on low level characters to get a massive early boost!
There is currently a bug where if a Waylaid Crate calls for 40 Linen Cloth its impossible to fill. Keep in mind you can still fill the Crate with the other supplies, so just don't waste your gold on Linen Cloth!
