WoW Forever has introduced a number of changes to WoW classic and one of the specs which has received some of the most drastic changes is none other than the
Survival hunter. Despite some of the drastic changes to the talent tree and people often misclassifying the spec as a "melee hunter" the core philosophy of hunter remains in tact--maintain your distance and use your range as your primary advantage against other classes.
Survival has some interesting new talents such as
Strider Kick while maintaining crucial talents like
Counterattack,
Clever Traps, and
Deterrence. If you enjoy dynamic gameplay where you prioritize long range fighting but have a plethora of tools up close then
Survival is the best option of hunter for you!
Overview
Talents
Survival Talents
Improved Tracking vs
Deflection
- Both of these talents are great you can't really go wrong with either. Improved tracking makes you do 5% more damage to players since characters in the game are classified as Humanoid type mobs, Feral Druids in ALL forms are classified as beasts as are Shamans in ghost wolf. Deflection is only useful vs melee and pet classes, bringing your parry change up to 10% which is the only way you're able to proc
Counterattack for a guaranteed root.

Entrapment
Savage Strikes
Survivalist
Improved Wing Clip
Entrapment is arguably nerfed in forever WoW. Those of us who remember Vanilla and TBC entrapment will know that it was similar to
Improved Wing Clip, providing an RNG proc while people were affected by the aura of your trap. In forever, they changed it to be the functionality of Wrath of the Lich King while still good, is significantly worse than how it functioned in vanilla--Much of the strength of Wrath of the Lich King is tied to Snake Trap proccing the root as well. There is an argument to be made where IF you freezing trap someone first, and while your freezing trap is on cooldown you can use your immolation trap as a guaranteed 5 second root if someone gets you to, you would often times rather freezing trap them again and space which is why I think this talent is not as valuable as it was in original classic.- The best talent in this row is definitely
Survivalist. 8% HP is in insane amount of health that scales with buffs and gear over time and is not something that should be looked over.
Savage Strikes is in my opinion, a bit underwhelming. While it's 2% critical chance per talent point which is a bit overstatted, it reads "melee abilities." This means Mongoose Bites and Strider Kick basically since I don't think the capstone of Lacerating Strikes is worth speccing into in a PvP setting. Even if the talent gave you an extra 4% crit on melee auto attacks, since your primary goal is to ranged people down and then stat check them in melee sometimes I feel as if your talent points are better spent elsewhere.
Improved Wing Clip is a very good talent when people are on top of you and you are trying to build distance. Since
Counterattack is only available to you when you parry an attack, pressing wing clip every global fishing for a proc for a 5 second root is a great way to guarantee either a trap that people can't move out of or simply root someone,
Strider Kick for movement speed and get into range and start blasting them from range. The reason I choose 3/3
Improved Wing Clip and 4/5
Survivalist is simple. If you read the talents, the first talent point gives you 7% the second talent point gives you 6% and the third gives you another 7%. Alternatively, if you read
Survivalist it's completely linear, it's 2% per talent point. This means that 2/3 points of
Improved Wing Clip is the least efficient point distribution of the three points you are able to put into it.
Clever Traps
Surefooted
Deterrence
Clever Traps Unlike retail WoW there isn't a maximum crowd control time on players. For example. At level 30 Freezing trap lasts for 10 seconds, this talent extends that time by another 3 seconds for a total of 13. With higher ranks, this goes up and allows you more time to reset in 1v1's to either gain health and mana by eating and drinking or repositioning to do maximum damage or both. Also, It makes
Frost Trap last for 39 seconds instead of 30 seconds which is incredibly useful in lots of scenarios
Surefooted This talent is one of the best talents that has ever existed in World of Warcraft for two reasons.- 1: Hit rating is king in World of Warcraft up to 5%. This talent gives you 3% physical hit and 3% spell hit. Since you are a physical DPS class, you need 5% hit to never miss against a target your level--other players--for offensive melee and ranged abilities. For spells--traps and scare beast--you need 4% hit to never miss. This talent gives you 60% of the hit rating you need for that which is the biggest single DPS increase and utility increase you are able to get in the game for PHYSICAL spells--
Aimed Shot,
Scatter Shot,
Wing Clip for example--and 75% of the hit rating you need for MAGIC spells--
Freezing Trap,
Scare Beast. At very low gear levels this portion of the talent alone makes this talent incredibly valuable. - 2: This talent reduces the duration of all slows and roots on you by 30% This means things like
Hamstring
Frost Nova and
Crippling Poison II don't last as long on you and give you more opportunity to play your character when crucial things like
Free Action Potion aren't available to you.
Deterrence This talent is your biggest source of mitigating damage against melee classes when they are stuck on top of you. Typically you use deterrence as a way to preserve HP when something like a
Warrior,
Rogue, or
Enhancement is on you and things like
Freezing Trap are on cooldown which means you have no way to kite them. Since this talent gives you 25% increased chance to parry, this greatly increased your chance to proc a
Counterattack and transition into ranged so you can resume shooting people.- All of these talents are insanely good, just spec into all of them HAHAHAHA
Survival Tactics
Predator's Edge
Counterattack
Survival Tactics May seem not that useful at first glance but it gives you two benefits. As mentioned earlier, if you're under the 4% spell hit cap threshold it guarantees your traps land on targets of your level and increases your chances against levels HIGHER than you if you choose to spec survival while leveling. Furthermore, IF this client functions as it does in classic spell hit cap above the base of 4% functions as a pseudo spell penetration; this means that if people have things like frost resistance, you're able to effectively penetrate that with 1 singular talent point.
Predator's Edge From everything I understand about hunter, this talent is horrible and not worth speccing into. There's a chance that in the future tuning for dual wielding ends up being better but as it currently stands, and has always stood, all your melee abilities scale better with a two hander and since survival functions as a ranged melee hybrid you would much prefer using a two handed weapon as opposed to 2 one handed weapons.
Counterattack This is one of the best talents in the game, it's a 5 second root which doesn't have a diminishing return so you are able to chain it given good parry procs and make melee classes completely miserable. As mentioned earlier you're also able to use this on people to guarantee land a
Freezing Trap and run away if need be.
Resourcefulness
Expose Prey
Survivalist's Discipline
Strider Kick
Resourcefulness is an incredibly useful talent though I don't spec into it. In my opinion, this functions more as a PvE talent than a PvP one. Typically when you're fighting someone, whether it be a duel or in the open world your goal is to have total control of the tempo of the duel. You dictate when you want to kill someone and when you want to slow it down. Since a big portion of this talent is tied to the mana regeneration while casting I feel like it's better suited to a PvE environment since you are able to just drink most of the time when you need mana in most player engagements.
Expose Prey There's not much to say about this talent, it's "free' damage if the target your hitting is hunter's marked and it procs and they are in melee range. There's an argument to be made that you would rather have the points elsewhere, such as
Resourcefulness. I think it just comes down to preference at that point and it won't ultimately make TOO much of a difference though I think an expose prey proc if playing fully optimally would be quite good damage.
Survivalist's Discipline This talent is incredibly useful for two reasons.- 1: Since Deterrence is your main form of damage reduction when people are on top of you, reducing the cooldown of it is an incredibly potent way to ensure you are able to maintain distance.
- 2:This talent functions a bit as a double edged sword. While reducing the cooldown of your
Freezing Trap by 40% might seem incredibly good, there's something that exists in World of Warcraft called a diminishing return. A diminishing return reduces the duration of your next crowd control of the same school by 50%, 25%, 0% in that order. In layman terms, if you freezing trap someone and it lasts for 20 seconds, as soon as they exit that trap a timer is triggered for 18-24 seconds and if another freezing trap triggers on them during that window the next trap that hits them will be halved. This means that if you want to back to back freezing trap you will need to wait out your diminishing return, OR you will have you weave a frost trap between your two freezing traps to ensure that both traps are maximum duration.
Strider Kick This is a new ability to WoW forever and I think it's incredibly fun. It's essentially a second auto attack since it hits for 100% weapon damage but the fun part about it is the 30% movement speed for 3 seconds. By design this ability has two functionalities. The first is when someone is on top of you and you are trying to get back into range--I assume Blizzard's intention was to use this as a PvE spell to run back into range and start shooting your bow or gun without any penalty. The second option is a bit more creative; say there's another hunter who is kiting you but they are not survival, you would have a significant advantage in melee range because of your talents. You would be able to use
Strider Kick on their pet to close the distance on them, get into melee and use your melee talent abilities to your advantage.
Lightning Reflexes
- There's not much to say about this talent. Agility is BY FAR your best stat as a hunter so a 10% flat stat increase is incredibly good, spec into it if you spec this far into the survival tree
Marksman Talents
Hawk Eye
Improved Concussive Shot
Lethal Attacks
Hawk Eye are the best three talent point you can put in any tree. Most casters only have a 35 yard casting range so you will have a 6 yard advantage on them. Melee often are locked at 25 yard range for things like
Intercept so you are easily able to kite them and maximize the damage you deal to them at the same time.
Improved Concussive Shot While it may seem strange to only put 1 talent point into something for proc talents the first talent point is by far the most value you can get. Mathematically, you go from a 0% chance of something happening to a 4% which is an "infinite" increase. While it's unlikely that the talent procs with only 1 point, it gives you more than alternative talents in the tree and you need 1 extra talent point somewhere to descend deeper in the tree.
Lethal Attacks This talent got reworked in WoW Forever. It gives you a flat 5% crit chance on both your melee and ranged attacks. Since hunters are a crit based class and it gives you crit on everything you press this talent is a no brainer.
Improved Stings
Efficiency
Careful Aim
- Both
Improved Stings and
Efficiency don't really provide much utility in PvP relative to their counterpart in
Careful Aim. Given that you need to spec into
Careful Aim to progress into one of the best talents for hunters in general in
Mortal Shots, you can't really afford to allocate points into either
Improved Stings or
Efficiency.
Careful Aim Provides you more attack power, which makes you do more damage from both your melee and ranged abilities as well as your
Auto Shot and normal melee swings. Combine this with needing 5 points into it in order to get
Mortal Shots it makes
Careful Aim the clear winner in this tree for where to spend your points.
- Both
Rapid Killing
Improved Arcane Shot
Lone Wolf
Rapid Killing only really provides some value in BG's and is more of a meme than anything else. The talent is meant to unlock
Rapid Recuperation for Marksmanship hunters but since the spec is primarily survival it makes
Rapid Killing a relatively lackluster talent.
Improved Arcane Shot is is not very good unless you put lots of points into it, and since you have limited points in the marksmanship tree your talent points are better allocated elsewhere.
Lone Wolf is a very interesting talent. You have the option of running around with no pet, activating
Lone Wolf and being able to have big burst windows with your
Aimed Shot
Arcane Shot
Auto Shot and then pulling your pet out after if you feel you need your pet to help you in the fight you're in. Keep in mind, pets typically offer a lot of utility which means there's a decent amount of opportunity cost to not having a pet out. This makes the decision of when to call your pet out vs when not to have it out a very high skill ceiling, but for one talent point 20% increased damage is quite good and I recommend taking it.
Trueshot Aura
Mortal Shots
Improved Serpent Sting
Trueshot Aura is a bit of a no brainer here. For one talent point it gives you a relatively big stat increase for when you are shooting your ranged weapon, and since your pets scale off your Ranged Attack Power it provides a good damage boost for when they are out and helping you in fights.
Mortal Shots is a crucial talent for all hunter specs. Hunters revolve around critting people and bursting them down. Because of this, increasing your crit damage is an absolute no brainer. The only reason you don't take 5/5 here is because for one point
Lone Wolf offers a bigger damage increase than
Mortal Shots. If you feel like you'll never utilize
Lone Wolf then putting that point into 5/5
Mortal Shots is completely fine.
Improved Serpent Sting This talent isn't very good, it only affects your serpent sting and often times you don't want to be pressing this in PvP. It has a place, it's not bad to press but a target with serpent sting up is a target you can't trap. If you want to trap them you need to swap your sting to
Scorpid Sting in order to remove the dot on them.
Scatter Shot
- This is the only talent worth talking about in this tier. Scatter Shot is a staple hunter ability, especially for both Marksman and Survival Hunters as it gives ways to guarantee traps or interrupt casts when casters are in your deadzone. The entire point of putting your secondary points into the marksman tree is to unlock scatter shot.
Gameplay & Rotation
- A hunter's job, regardless of spec is to maximize the amount of
Auto Shot's they land on a target. For most players, I would recommend using a swing timer in order to see when your auto shot is off cooldown in order to not lose any damage. If you've ever played league of legends, or watched it, it's similar to an ADC that is "orb walking." Your goal is to shoot, move, shoot, move, repeat and denying people into your space. - While keeping the aforementioned detail in mind, your filler DPS abilities from ranged are
Aimed Shot,
Multi-Shot, and
Arcane Shot.
Aimed Shot and
Multi-Shot share a cooldown so the way you use them will be very different. For Single target DPS
Aimed Shot will do more damage, though you have to stand still and cast it which enables people to get close to you and disrupt how you want to play. Therefore, you should only really use
Aimed Shot on targets that are either in
Freezing Trap OR on classes like
Rogue who have no way to close the distance while you use it. If you decide to cast it on a melee target that is waddling towards you, I suggest you cast
Concussive Shot first so they are either unable to run out of range of it or get close enough to you with something like
Sprint.- Since
Aimed Shot is an ability that requires you to stand still, most of the time when you are kiting people you will look to
Multi-Shot since it's a very small "cast" time. You can time it with your auto shot cooldown on your swing timer and land and
Auto Shot and
Multi-Shot and effectively be on the move again while spacing enemies so they aren't able to hit you.
Arcane Shot is an ability you use either at the end of an
Aimed Shot cast for the biggest burst window you have available to you, or while you're on the move to space people.
- When people are in melee range as survival you have to assess the situation and determine what the best course of action is for yourself. Regardless of if someone is low on HP or not, you are able to double up abilities like
Raptor Strike since it replaces your next auto attack and
Wing Clip in the same global to either fish for a root because of
Improved Wing Clip, or if they are already slow use
Strider Kick to try and transition into range to get more damage on them. - If you think you are in a disadvantaged situation in melee--you often are--then you should aim to land a freezing trap on the target, ensure it lands by doing things like pressing
Scatter Shot first or landing an
Improved Wing Clip or
Counterattack if
Scatter Shot is on cooldown. If you don't have the luxury for waiting for a guaranteed trap from a root you a normal
Wing Clip is typically good enough to land a trap on someone. - It's important to note that
Scatter Shot and
Freezing Trap share a diminishing return. That means that your trap will last half as long on a target you use
Scatter Shot on first. - As a general rule of thumb, you want to have
Hunter's Mark on your target when you are hitting them since it gives you more attack power and it enables you to get
Mongoose Bite procs because of your
Expose Prey talent.
Viper Sting This ability is so overpowered they nerfed it in WoW Forever. What I mean by that is originally in Classic, there was no cooldown on this spell. Hunters were able to have 100% uptime on Viper Sting on classes such as mages and priests. Hunters would bide their time, drain most mana classes to 0 then move in for the kill. While this strategy is still viable and incredibly potent vs mana classes, having a 15 second cooldown means that it's going to take longer to accomplish this especially as a Survival Hunter.
Aspect of the Cheetah is an insanely good spell that every hunter should get used to using and toggling. As I mentioned in the talent section,
Hawk Eye gives you the ability to outrange every single class in the game and when used in conjunction with
Aspect of the Cheetah and
Concussive Shot you are able to space people so well that they are unable to get to you and they are relegated to being a mob in the open world. The most important thing to talk about is the punishment from Aspect of the Cheetah. If you take ANY DIRECT damage while in this aspect, you will be dazed for 4 seconds. This means you need a have a macro /cancelaura Aspect of the Cheetah to prevent people from dazing you assuming they are able to get close enough to you to force a daze from range. - Your pet is a big source of your damage, you should look to have it hit your target, though you don't ever want it to die. Make sure you use things like Move To and Follow to keep your pet out of danger if it ever ends up in a bad position or people start focusing it. You can use your pet micro to your advantage and since you are the main source of damage and your pet is mostly just a side character.
Flare is the most fun hunter spell in your toolkit in my opinion. It's useful obviously against
Rogue to reveal them from stealth or instantly break their
Vanish ability but also against
Warlock which may seem a bit more nuanced. In the event a
Warlock is using
Summon Succubus, it will reveal their invisible, allowing you to range or interrupt their
Seduction which is a powerful tool they use to setup kill windows on you.
Suggested Races
Alliance vs Horde often makes little difference when it comes to the decision you make on full class optimization. Both factions are typically quite good and what matters more than the race you pick is how you end up piloting your character more than anything. With that being said, there are still races that shine over others on alliance and horde given those circumstances.
Alliance
- Night Elf: Night Elf is probably the best race you can pick as a hunter. Hunter has and always will be a critical strike based class. Given that, adding 10% increased critical chance via
Elune's Light on things like
Aimed Shot,
Arcane Shot,
Auto Shot
Raptor Strike gives you insane one shot potential if all of these abilities crit in the window that your racial is popped. Also, hunters typically struggle more against casters than anything else. WoW Forever has reworked
Shadowmeld to be usable in combat and will function as a
Feign Death when people are casting spells on you. The more options you have at your disposal to disrupt casters from doing what they want is incredibly useful as a hunter! - Dwarf: While Dwarf is probably the least appealing from an offensive standpoint it's quite good from a defensive standpoint. While Hunters fair quite well into rogues in general things like
Blind are extremely annoying for resetting fights between their stun DR's and gives you an opportunity to run them down when they have no ability to defend themselves. For this reason
Stoneform is incredibly potent and shouldn't be undervalued. - Human: I think people get a bit baited by the racial
Will to Survive. While there's value out of getting out of stuns I think consumables like
Living Action Potion and
Free Action Potion make this racial a bit lackluster compared to its alternatives. - Skybourne: I don't think this race is as good as any of the alternatives for PvP I wouldn't really consider it. Pretty much just roll it if you don't care about hyper min-maxing your racials and like how they look.
Horde
- Orc: A hunter's biggest weakness in PvP has always been
Warlock. With the most recent update to
Shatter Curse, the diminishing return you get from magic damage and the fact that you are no longer immune to Curses and Banes during the duration makes it a not very appealing racial by any means.
Blood Fury On the other hand, is quite powerful from an offensive standpoint. You can do things like use
Rapid Fire and
Blood Fury together to land maximum damage on people with your
Aimed Shot
Arcane Shot
Auto Shot burst window. - Troll: Similar to Orc, troll is looking to cover your weaknesses by giving you things like health regeneration when you are low health. You will be able to do things like
Freezing Trap someone use your
Rapid Regeneration and be topped off to get back into the fight sooner. Similar to orc,
Berserking is a good offensive tool which enables you to get more
Auto Shot's off during it's window as well as reduce the cast time of
Aimed Shot. - Tauren: Tauren is an interesting race. As mentioned earlier Hunter is a critical strike based class and having 2% more damage on your critical strikes is a small increase to your burst windows. From a utility aspect, mount movement speed is quite good in the open world and battlegrounds especially given that it stacks with other mount speed items and shouldn't be looked over. Being able to quickly get across battlegrounds or chase down enemies in the open world is something people won't often think about when picking a race but can definitely be useful. Lastly,
War Stomp being a 90 second cooldown and a way to help you guarantee traps can be quite enticing when players are on top of you. - Skybourne: I don't think this race is as good as any of the alternatives for PvP I wouldn't really consider it. Pretty much just roll it if you don't care about hyper min-maxing your racials and like how they look.
Professions
Engineering
Engineering, Engineering, Engineering. This profession gives you access to more utility, more crowd control, and more damage than any other alternative and is basically mandatory in WoW Forever. Things like
Goblin Rocket Boots paired with
Free Action Potion enable you to kite people while running significantly faster than them, or match their speed if they choose to do that as well. Also things like
Goblin Land Mine Goblin Mortar and
Thorium Grenade give you huge burst opportunities on players who are in freezing trap or at low hp.
First Aid
First Aid is a mandatory secondary profession in World of Warcraft. It gives you access to powerful utility tools such as
Powerful Anti-Venom and
Heavy Runecloth Bandage. As a non hybrid class, hunters lack the ability to heal themselves or remove things like poisons and diseases.
First Aid functions as a band aid fix to one of the major flaws that pure dps classes suffer from--lack of utility.
Pets
Cat
Currently the highest dps pet in the game. While a cat has no direct qualitative utility, it has
Faster Attack VII which provides things like spell push back against casters and currently has no penalty. This means that a pet which benefits from this passive attacks just as hard as a pet that attacks every 2.0 seconds but ends up attacking every 1.0 second instead. This ends up being a massive damage increase which is incredibly good against every class in the game.
Crocodile
Crocodile has a new ability in WoW forever called
Dismember. Traditionally referred to as
Mortal Strike, reducing the healing someone receives by a quarter is a massive benefit in PvP for most classes since they will look to use things like
Major Discolored Healing Potion if they have no direct heals or
Heavy Runecloth Bandage to recover their health. While it's not as strong as
Mortal Strike, having some sort of healing debuff when you're by yourself still has its merits.
Bat
Similar to the crocodile, bats have a new ability in WoW forever called
Sonic Blast. The casting debuff is not as potent as
Curse of Tongues or
Mind-numbing Poison III but it's still quite good when you tag a cater with the debuff. While also slowing their casting speed, it also makes their global cooldown longer and lasts for 30 seconds while being undispellable. The only way for this ability to be removed is with immunities such as
Ice Block and
Divine Shield.
Tallstrider
Tallstrider has a very unique spell called
Dust Cloud. At max rank it reduces it's target's armor by 505 which provides a relatively large damage increase for you and anyone that's hitting the target your pet is on so long as they're doing physical damage.
Spider
A Spider is the definition of utility. If you like on demand spells when you can use to either get you to your target when you're far away, or get people off of you when they're on you then
Web is the perfect spell for you. The only downside for abilities such as
Web is they are countered by abilities such as
Blessing of Freedom, and potions like
Living Action Potion and
Free Action Potion
Consumables
Magic Dust
Magic Dust is potentially the single most overpowered consumable in World of Warcraft. It's a ranged CC that lasts for 30 seconds and shares a diminishing return with
Freezing Trap. In the event you are ever outnumbered in the world you can use this to even the playing field by CCing someone from range in order to pick who you want to kill before dealing with anyone else. Keep in mind the CC that
Magic Dust does is considered a sleep, which means that Undead players are able to use their
Will of the Forsaken to break it
Free Action Potion
In terms of potions,
Free Action Potion (FAP) are your best tool against most melee classes and things like mages. For mages in particular, their main goal is to get on top of you,
Frost Nova you, and look to kill you while in your deadzone--the range window where you're unable to press any offensive actions on them except for
Scatter Shot. The
Free Action Potion will be incredibly useful when a mage blinks on top of you, making you immune to
Frost Nova,
Cone of Cold
Frostbite and allowing you to save your
Feign Death spell for their
Polymorph.
Living Action Potion
The
Living Action Potion or LAP as people often refer to them as is your main tool when you are stuck in something like a rogue
Kidney Shot and you need to get out immediately. As you can tell, LAPS only last for 5 seconds, where FAPS last for 30 seconds. LAPS are more of a last resort consume, think of them as a get out of jail free card when you are stuck in a bad situation and you need to reset a fight.
Potion of Poison Cleansing
The best consume hands down against
Rogue. Their goal is to stay on top of you with things like
Crippling Poison II, which is the strongest slow in the game. This consumable has no cooldown so you are able to spam it and cleanse yourself from the rogue slow in order to get distance and shoot them from range.
Heavy Runecloth Bandage
One of two ways you're able to restore your health while fighting. For pure DPS classes like hunter who don't have access to any healing in their kit,
First Aid is a mandatory profession. Keep in mind, if you're bandaging any damage you take will interrupt the effect. This means that if you have any sort of DOT on you i.e.
Shadow Word: Pain,
Corruption
Rend you will effectively waste your bandage and not get any healing from it. In the event you are loaded with dots and you need to heal, your only options are things like healing potions, or trapping someone and feign death eating food
Flash Bomb
Druids will hat you for using this consume. If a druid is on you in form, you are able to instantly fear them for 10 seconds with
Flash Bomb. Unlike traditional fears, this one functions more as a stun meaning it won't break to damage giving you a full 10 seconds to blast damage into them and kill them.
Thorium Grenade
Grenades are a super versatile tool that you should always carry on you. You can use them to guarantee
Freezing Trap on players, you can use them on players who are in
Freezing Trap after an
Aimed Shot to stun them and deny them from using things like heals and time it with a more damage off.
Flask of Petrification
Realistically nobody is going to do this but it's something you are able to do.
Flask of Petrification functions as a
Divine Intervention. What that means is let's say you're overloaded with
Warlock and
Priest DOTS, you can use this flask to clear you of ALL debuffs and then either right click it off or have a macro /cancelaura flask of petrification to immediately start moving again as this flask will essentially turn your character into a statue for 60 seconds where you can't any spells or move. Typically an extremely expensive consumable, and an extremely niche one, but for those who want to be overly prepared for all scenarios it's worth having in your bag.
Useful Macros
/cast [target=pet, dead] Revive Pet; [target=pet, exists] Mend Pet; Revive Pet
This is a one button macro to heal your pet if it's alive and revive your pet if it dies saving you keybinds long term.
#showtooltip
/stopcasting
/cast Feign Death
Feign Death is an incredibly useful tool to break up caster combos on you. Sometimes you will be in the middle of things like an
Aimed Shot cast and notice someone is casting on you, in that case you're better off cancelling your
Aimed Shot cast and repositioning since spacing is king as a hunter. This macro allows you to do that in 1 button
/cancelaura Aspect of the Cheetah
This is something you need to get used to using and have a good bind for. As mentioned above, you will often toggle
Aspect of the Cheetah on and off in order to build distance from other players. This macro enabled you to quickly take
Aspect of the Cheetah off WITHOUT incurring a global cooldown by pressing something like
Improved Aspect of the Monkey or
Aspect of the Hawk.
#showtooltip
/cast !Eagle Eye
This one might seem a bit strange for a PvP guide but it's an incredibly powerful tool in the open world. This macro allows you to hop your
Eagle Eye ability so you can scout zones from a safe space. Knowledge is power in PvP and knowing what you are getting yourself into allows you to pick people off or hide.
#showtooltip Scatter Shot

/stopcasting
/cast Scatter Shot
/stopattack
This is just a macro to ensure that you don't break your own scatter when you press it.
#showtooltip
/cast !Flare
This allows you to spam your flare bind without the reticle disappearing.
#showtooltip Rapid Fire
/cast Rapid Fire
/cast Blood Fury
/cast Elune's Light
/cast Berserking
A one button macro to maximize your damage when you're at range regardless of what race you are, assuming your race has a damage racial. For higher skill players you may want to stagger things like Rapid Fire and your racial but it's such a small min max that using this macro is fine 99% of the time.
Changelog
8/15 Updated suggested races and pet sections to reflect the most recent changes in the beta build
