Overview

The Paladin is one of the most anticipated classes for WoW: Forever and the rework has truly lived up to the hype. They gained Holy Strike, which is an instant strike weapon skill that also does holy damage. Consecration is now baseline and learned from a trainer, and there were an absolute boatload of changes to the passive tree. Overall the Paladin is stronger, faster, and has more build options than ever before. In this guide we will be covering a level 1-30 Retribution Paladin Build.

Paladin had one of the most changed talent trees of any class in the game. There are a ton of new options to explore, and new builds to test. For this build, we will be going deep into the Retribution tree, and looking to maximize our damage and mana cost efficiency so we can easily sustain our mana while clearing out loads of enemies.

To start we are taking 5 points into Benediction, which has been changed pretty significantly. It now reduces the mana cost of all instant spells, including Judgement and Seal skills like before, but now expanded to include things like Consecration, Exorcism, Holy Strike, Hammer of Justice, and many other spells. This should net an overall mana save increase, and is a very potent first talent.

On the second row we have some powerful options. When fighting Undead or Demon enemies, Holy Conduit is incredible. However for this build, we are going to be taking 5 points into Conviction as 5% Critical Strike Chance is generally good and has synergies with later talents.

Now the third row is where things get really interesting. Pursuit of Justice has been buffed and now gives a whopping 15% movement speed and mounted speed buff at all times. This allows us to both move around the world faster as well as easily escape from enemies. We are taking two points in Pursuit of Justice right away, followed by Seal of Command. This seal does very high damage when paired with Hammer of Justice. It is also generally going to be stronger on slower hitting weapons when compared with Seal of Righteousness. If you're currently playing with the level 20 cap, I'd recommend taking Seal of Command over Pursuit of Justice.

To unlock the fourth row we need two more points, and I suggest putting them into Sanctified Judgement. This will result in more mana efficient Judgement, giving us better uptime when questing. And it's also needed to unlock Vengeance later.

Sacred Arbiter is a new talent that gives a nice damage bonus while also allowing us to keep up Judgements on enemies. This is a solid 1 point talent, though most of its value will come from extended boss fights.

We can put the last point into Sanctified Judgement, then we put 3 points into Vindication for a nice Attack Power buff and a small debuff on enemies.

For our last point in the beta we are taking Vengeance, which once we get enough crit chance to maintain these stacks represent a massive stacking damage buff. This talent honestly looks incredibly strong, though its full power won't be fully realized in this beta.

Gameplay and Main Abilities

The Retribution Paladin relies on sustained damage, self healing, and a ton of utility to quickly and effortless clear through hordes of enemies. It has great AOE in the form of Consecration, and solid single target from Holy Strike and Seal of Command. Its also extremely hard to kill, bringing Lay on Hands, Divine Shield, and Divine Protection to easily get out of bad situations. It also brings powerful group buffs in the form of Blessing of Kings, Blessing of Might, and Blessing of Wisdom, as well as auras such as Devotion Aura and Retribution Aura.

Overall the Paladin is a highly sought after and powerful class that makes everyone in your party significantly stronger.

Playable Races

For the Paladin there's one playable race on each faction. Both have some good stuff, but we're going to look at what the best Paladin race is.

Horde

Undead

Objectively the coolest Race/Class combo in World of Warcraft. Once a Human Paladin, these Paladins were killed and brought back to life and now use the Light to their will.

In terms of racials the Undead get Will of the Forsaken which has been nerfed to only removed Charms, Fears, and Sleeps instead of getting immunity to them. However, Cannibalize now also restores mana, and they also got a new passive Touch of the Grave. This is quite an interesting passive for a Paladin, as it gives a chance on hit to steal some hp from your enemy. This is quite strong, as it gives you extra damage as well as sustain.

Alliance

Human

The classic Paladin Race are humans, and they have some pretty useful tools. They have Will to Survive, which gives the ability to remove stuns. This is incredibly powerful in PvP, and their addition of Perception means they are also hard for Rogue and Druid to sneak up on.

Human's passive The Human Spirit also gives a bit of mana regen which is nice in general for Paladin, especially when paired with Reverence which allows some of your spirit to keep regening while casting.

The Human's real power though comes from the reworked Sword Specialization, which now gives 2% ability and spell critical hit chance as long as you have a sword.

Strongest Paladin Race

Overall for leveling Undead seem to be far stronger as they can both quickly reset with Cannibalize while also needing less resets thanks to Touch of the Grave. However in end game, its still very hard to know which Race is better. For Holy Paladin Human looks quite a bit stronger as they get the extra crit chance on heals as well as extra mana regen, but for Prot and Ret things look a lot closer. I would personally lean towards Undead for now, but once we know the proc rate of Touch of the Grave we'll be a lot more confidant in declaring a winner.

Rotation

Paladin has a famously simple rotation. With the addition of Holy Strike, we at least get one more button to press, but things are still very straight forward.

1. Keep either Seal of Command or Seal of Righteousness active at all times. If your weapon is faster than 3.8 seconds per attack use Seal of Righteousness, but if it's slower use Seal of Command.

2. Use Holy Strike on cooldown

3. If fighting multiple enemies, keep up Consecration

4. Use Judgement on cooldown

When healing yourself between fights or when off-healing in dungeons use Flash of Light for burst healing and Holy Light for slower, more sustainable healing.

Tips & Tricks

When comparing two similar DPS weapons, always prefer the slower one. Both Holy Strike and Seal of Command scale with weapon damage.

Keep in mind the 5 Second Rule! Your mana will only start regening after not spending any mana for 5 seconds, so its generally better to cast multiple spells back to back and then let your mana trickle back in.

Remember you have a ton of amazing utility spells like Blessing of Freedom, Blessing of Sacrifice, Blessing of Protection, Purify, Hammer of Justice, and many more. Make sure you are using these skills to support yourself and your party!

Stat Priority

For your stat priorities while leveling its actually going to change a little bit based on your race.
For Human its: Strength > Spirit > Agility > Int > Stamina

For Undead its: Strength > Agility > Int > Stamina > Spirit.

Strength is just generally good, adding more damage for each hit.

Agility is also good as it gives both defensive stats and crit chance. That crit chance has synergy with Vengeance, which increases its value by quite a bit.

Now Spirit is very good on Human because they lack the natural regen and healing that Undead have. Cannibalize is an absurdly good tool for resetting quickly, and Touch of the Grave both reduces our time to kill and gives some healing.

I prefer int over stam on Paladin because they have decent healing mana efficiency and you also get more mana per int than health her stamina. The int also gives some spell crit chance. That being said, you always want at least a little stamina to increase your survivability.
