The BazaarThe Bazaar Vanessa Guide and Overview

In this Vanessa guide for The Bazaar, we'll explain how Vanessa works, from her playstyle to her example Builds.

Overview

Lore

From The Bazaar site:

"A seafaring rogue on the run, Vanessa overwhelms her foes by any alluring or domineering means necessary. But her crew can't get too comfy: Her shows of force are only matched by the size of the bounty on her head."

Playstyle

Out of the three Heroes available in The Bazaar's Closed Beta, Vanessa has the tools to be the most aggressive early on.

This is because she has a vast arsenal of weaponry that allows her to strike first and hard.

If she doesn't burst you down instantly, she can overwhelm you with Burn and/or Poison.

As a swashbuckling pirate, Vanessa can even get help from the seas, with Aquatic Friends and Tools.

Note: In this guide we'll be covering a few of Vanessa's signature aspects but with 100 items per character there are many more ways to build her.

How to Unlock Vanessa

You're in luck! Vanessa is unlocked by default as the tutorial Hero, so no need to spend any Gems. You just have to log in and play.

Strike First, Strike Hard

Vanessa has access to some of the fastest-casting and hardest-hitting items in The Bazaar, but at a cost.

They often involve needing Ammunition for each cast, meaning that if you aren't able to reload them, they have a limited amount of uses.

Thankfully, she has a lot of ways to refill her Ammo and even extend her max magazine.

Since Vanessa also has a lot of access to Critical Hit items and items that improve your Crit Chance, sometimes having Ammo doesn't even matter because she'll kill her enemies before it's an issue.

So if you're playing Vanessa, you'll often want to get 10 wins as close to Day 10 as possible, before your opponents can out-scale you.

Example Items

Double Barrel

Double Barrel is a staple Ammo Weapon for Vanessa. It deals a strong amount of Damage on a very short 3 second Cooldown. Best of all, it has Multicast, making it one of the fastest Weapons in the game.

Its limited Ammo is its only drawback, but that can be supplemented by the right items or skills, such as this next one..

Powder Flask

Powder Flask is the perfect Ammo supporting item. It compliments your best Ammo item on board, enhancing its limited capabilities by often allowing it to fire endlessly.

For just a single Small slot it's well worth the space. You don't even need to play an Ammo-centric build to make the most of it. So long as there's a relevant item to support, its slot is justified.

Crow's Nest

Crow's Nest provides a board wide buff to your Weapons' Crit Chance. This can make a huge difference in your Damage output, as Critical Hits inherently deal double Damage.

Some Weapons such as Cutlass even deal additional Damage on-Crits, adding further value to an already powerful Property.

Queen of DoTs (Damage over Time)

If guns and explosives aren't your thing, Vanessa can also use the potent effects of Burn and/or Poison.

Dooley does have a solid amount of Burn options, but not too many Poison, so Vanessa has the most access to both if you're into the DoT playstyle (Pygmalien has the least).

Her Weather Glass item even encourages you to combine the two with other debuffing effects to grant it Multicast.

Example Items

Weather Glass

Weather Glass is a powerhouse with the right support. So long as you can maximize its Multicast (or at the very least reach 4x) it will simultaneously stack a crazy amount of Burn and Poison every activation.

Its main limitation is the required board space to meet its Multicast threshold. However, items like Rainbow Potion which drop from various PvE Encounters can simplify the requirement and open up a ton of space for the build.

Trebuchet

Trebuchet is a powerful Weapon, and an even stronger source of Burn. It has an incredibly high Burn value compared to other items, and while it may appear to have a long Cooldown, its true activation rate is deceptively fast.

While water probably isn't the first thing that comes to mind in a Burn build, Waterwheel lets the Trebuchet stack up absurd amounts of damage over time. Though if you prefer more firepower, you're welcome to combine its DoT into a full Weapon build.

Pufferfish

Pufferfish is the quintessential Poison item in The Bazaar. Its Hasty nature creates insane loops of Poison stacking, making it the core threat of many Aquatic builds.

While the game has many alternative items to diversify builds, if you're playing Poison Vanessa, it'll be hard to not want Pufferfish.

Aquatic Vehicles

While Vanessa is armed with a multitude of Weapons, sometimes the tried and true method is setting off to sail the seas.

Often focused around a single vessel, these builds forgo variety and put all hands on deck.

By narrowing focus to just one Weapon, it unlocks additional power through passive effects of items like Crow's Nest or Silencer.

There's a lot of available options beyond just Vehicles, but if you're looking for synergy, this is a great place to start.

Example Items

Flagship

Flagship is basically the Weather Glass of Vehicles. By putting together a build that includes the Tool, Ammo, Property, and Friend item types, you'll create a Multicasting machine of a Weapon.

It deals a ton of Damage each cast and can often threaten huge burst with enough Crit and Haste support. The challenge is in finding the right pieces to get the best utility out of your board while enabling its Multicast (again, at least 4x).

Submarine

Submarine is a more defensive alternative compared to other single Weapon based builds. In fact, thanks to its Shield generation, it's far less reliant on Crow's Nest for sustain. This allows it to optionally include an extra Weapon such as Torpedo, giving the build more scaling Damage for longer fights.

It's a great choice to pivot into if your current build isn't holding up, as the Submarine is a respectable standalone item before even finding all the perfect supporting pieces.

Captain's Wheel

Captain's Wheel is an excellent Tool for accelerating these builds. Putting it adjacent to your vessel will just about guarantee permanent Haste uptime, which is essential for a build focused around one item.

Eventually you may find skills that replace its usefulness, but when looking to assemble the initial build, it's a welcome addition.
