Overview

It's been a while since Vanessa's had some new toys to play with, but Season 4 is right around the corner and ready to spice things up.

These new items have a bit of a darker tone, and we're looking forward to seeing how they come together.

Let's take a quick look!

New Items Revealed

Bladed Hoverblade

Bladed Hoverboard is a wild enabler with two fantastic lines of text. On the surface, its passive Cooldown reduction is already solid, but underneath is an extremely threatening Weapon.

We're finally receiving a Damage variant of the "on adjacent-use" effects, and Vanessa has plenty of ways to take advantage of it. Whether it's one of her many fast Charge items or Multicasters like Dive Weights, find a bit of Damage scaling and Bladed Hoverblade will work wonders.

Cauterizing Blade

Cauterizing Blade brings Vanessa her very own Quest item, with a focus around choosing between Slow or Haste. This fits well into her Shot Glasses type setups, and shouldn't take much to turn it online.

It can essentially become a faster Medium-sized Mantis Shrimp, or take a Haste/Burn angle. This flexibility is nice as it relies less on finding the right support items, and more about taking advantage of what's available. Overall very solid.

Cyber-Sai

Cyber-Sai offers a very unique ability for a Weapon. Being able to gain Invulnerability through offense could be quite strong, as it gives aggressive builds a defensive tool that's still a Weapon.

Assuming you can stack a reliable enough Crit Chance, Cyber-Sai reduces the need for sustain, allowing builds to focus solely on offense. That said, you'll want to have good Damage scaling, or else you won't benefit from its Weapon property.

Dart Launcher

Dart Launcher has similar text to Sword Cane in that it gains attributes based on adjacent ietms. However, what makes it unique is having a limited amount of Ammo alongside this combined spread of effects.

Four Ammo is pretty uncommon as well, as it's enough to get a handful of uses without committing dedicated Ammo support to the build. With its four second Cooldown it could have pretty nice utility for its size, but we'll have to see how well these combined effects can be utilized.

Integrated HUD

Integrated HUD gives Vanessa another passive supporting item in her arsenal. Giving a static "Slow on Crit" effect is quite strong, and unlike comparable items, isn't restricted to one-Weapon builds. In fact, it's not Weapon specific at all.

Assuming you can get a reliable amount of Crit, Integrated HUD can create a Marbles-like effect, which is pretty nice utility for any boards that can afford the space. Spamming Slow triggers often works out well for Vanessa, so it's definitely got potential.

Kusarigama

Kusarigama has an awesome passive scaling effect for a single Small item. It essentially applies the Trained skill for itself and adjacent Weapons, which is insane.

Additionally, if you're able to setup a reliable amount of Crit, it also acts as Improvised Weaponry. We're already seeing a bit of a Crit theme with what's revealed so far, so there is a world where Crit becomes a very possible reality.

Oni Mask

Oni Mask is another Darkwater Anglerfish or Lighthouse type item, except instead of having high base Burn, it has scaling Burn. This gives it a much higher ceiling, but also a much lower floor.

Once again, if you can find ways to reliably Crit, Oni Mask can scale into a very potent threat. Although without enough Crit, you're easily better off with the usual Slow Burn items.

Shuriken

Shuriken is an absolute win in terms of flavor and design. Having to spend all Ammo after one use is quite interesting, and since its Multicast scales to the current amount, there's actually merit to Reloading more Ammo at a time.

It's a little bit slow, but with some good Damage scaling and extra Ammo, Shuriken could become a really powerful threat.

Stealth Glider

Stealth Glider is another flavor win, but when it comes to its usage, it's very strange. Taking no Damage for the first three seconds of a fight sounds good, except oftentimes it takes that long before the first item even gets used (barring on-start Haste effects and the like).

It'll be interesting to see if this duration scales upon upgrades, as generally speaking the common fast items we see have a 3-4 second Cooldown.

Regardless, getting a flat Crit Chance across the board makes it worth considering, especially as this applies to ALL types of items (not just Weapons like Crow's Nest). Is it worth the Large space? I'm conflicted, but definitely interested to try it out.

Wetware

Wetware is like the Weapon-supporting equivalent of Barrel, particularly its old pre-nerfed iteration (old Barrel worked across the board, not just adjacent).

This type of effect can be quite strong, and looking at the numbers, Wetware scales FAST. Now it's very possible that things change when the patch is released, but +20 Shield scaling at Bronze is a LOT.

However, keep in mind that Wetware won't be nearly as effective if you don't have a Tech item to reduce its Cooldown. Thankfully, this Expansion provides Vanessa with several more of her own Tech items, so it shouldn't be too hard to enable.
