Season 3 of The Bazaar is right around the corner, with new item-filled Expansions, and potentially even more additional surprises.
Up next during this spoiler Season is a new item Expansion for Dooley, entirely themed around Dinosaurs. While the Dinosaur tag has been part of the game for a while now, it's rarely been relevant on its own. Now that's about to change.
We've been asking for more Dooley variety and we're about to get it. While we don't know the full picture so far, let's dive in to what has been revealed!
Crude Tools is a neat utility item that's almost like a Silencer for Tech. While we don't know what its upgrades look like, we can likely assume that its Charge and/or Cooldown reduction could be improved.
It also has the Relic tag which many of the new Expansion items care about.
Overall I think it has the potential to fill some niche slots, although given how many of Dooley's items are Tech (most Cores included), it certainly won't fit everywhere.
Aesthetically this item is a slam dunk. Dino Disguise is like the Dinosaur version of Diving Helmet, which could certainly add some interesting implications.
It's tough to evaluate how strong this is because it all depends on the tag's relevance. It's Multicast doesn't appear very impactful either, as you're going to want multiple Small items to really get the most out of it (which currently doesn't exist).
Seeing this leads me to believe we'll see many existing items get the Relic tag, especially since Dooley currently has none?
We'll have to wait and see once the patch goes live, but overall it's definitely an item to keep at the back of your mind. Adjacent tags and scaleable Multicast always has potential.
It's not often we see items that grant Multicast to a particular type of item, but those that do have all been ridiculously strong, often seeing various balance changes. Just look at Boiling Flask, Shipwreck, and Robotic Factory.
Dino Saddle joins the cast as another Multicast-granter, albeit for a less common tag. Vehicles are often few and far between, but have some of the highest potential among items thanks to insane skills like Command Ship and Flashy Pilot.
What excites me most is its synergy with Thrusters. Combining these two items allows Dooley to give ANY item Multicast, which is a pretty wild thought. Similar to the Piano + Card Table combo, except it only requires three slots, and doesn't rely on two Gold-tier items.
However, as a Medium item we'll have to see if Dooley can justify its inclusion, as board space is always the common issue. Is the payoff worth it? Maybe. Is it exciting? Absolutely!
Dinosawer is an incredibly fast item assuming you can enable its passive Cooldown reduction. A 2.5 second Cooldown isn't far off of Uzi, all while not needing to worry about Ammo. Plus perhaps it scales with upgrades?
As a fast Dinosaur Weapon this fits perfectly with the brand new Primal Core. It's likely going to be a staple inclusion at least from the start, and given its speed I wouldn't be surprised to see it stick around into the late game.
Flint Stones has a really interesting design. As a Small Burn item with a five second Cooldown, it can actually threaten a pretty huge amount of Burn.
However, as mentioned earlier we don't really have Relics yet in Dooley's pool (aside from new items), and Tools tend to be pretty uncommon.
It certainly has potential as an early game item, but navigating around Tech items is quite the obstacle, considering most of Dooley's best items are Tech items, the Core included.
Primal Core is officially revealed in its Silver form, and we now have confirmation of two important things. First of all, it is indeed a Dinosaur itself, and not just affected by Dino Disguise (as shown in the trailer).
More importantly, Primal Core is a new selectable Core from Dooley's level 3 reward. This is a big deal, as not only does it add a different option, but it reduces the odds of getting every other Core. With 5/6 available previously, it was extremely likely to get what you want. Now it'll be a bit less frequent.
As for evaluating the Primal Core, it essentially seems like an alternative Weaponized Core. It has the same Damage scaling (at least at Silver) except that it applies specifically to Dinosaurs and Relics.
Additionally, its positioning passives make it function a bit differently, allowing it to both choose extra items it can benefit while getting Charged from anywhere on the board (similar to Companion Core).
Overall I think it will depend on how many Dinosaurs and Relics will be worth using, but on the surface it does seem like a pretty solid choice.
Rex Spex adds another destructive Dinosaur to the game, this time with a very interesting requirement. Instead of caring about the opponent's quantity of items, Rex Spex also looks at your own.
By including more Medium and/or Large items on board you'll have better odds of destroying more items. However, the fewer items you have, the less support you have to Charge it.
There's definitely potential here, although it will certainly hurt to match up against opponents with equal or fewer items than you. Perhaps its Diamond tier will adjust the ability to say "equal or more". We'll have to wait and see.
Tanky Anky is really cool as an anti-Weapon item. Being able to actually reduce the base Damage of opposing Weapons it very unique, and over the span of multiple activations could really matter.
Being able to debuff opposing Ammo Weapons could keep you out of kill range, allowing you to survive the initial burst and comfortably win afterwards.
On its own it almost functions like a slower Submarine, since it'll generate Shield as it deals Damage. With enough other Dinosaurs this gives the build great sustain, without the need for Heal/Lifesteal.
Overall this seems pretty solid at least early on, but we'll have to see what the overall archetype looks like before judging its late game potential.
Temporal Navigator has an incredibly high floor. At the very worst it will be a source of Income just like Schematics and Sat-Comm, and that doesn't even factor in its effect on-board.
Assuming it's your only Tech item, a three second Cooldown item that Hastes both adjacent items isn't half bad, and also fits perfectly with Crude Tools.
It's also worth noting that it can generate items from any Hero AND has no size restriction. Currently, all of our existing daily spawners can only create Small items.
Schematics can technically do this, although it's a level-up trigger instead of start-of-day. Regardless, knowing how strong of an item Schematics is, makes Temporal Navigator stand out as an excellent pickup for Dooley's Economy. Plus, ya never know when you might get something spicy!
Trollosaur gives Dooley another Flamethrower-like item, which inherently works very well with Weaponized Core. While obviously not as strong initially, its ability to destroy items and permanently scale Damage has real potential.
It's really cool to see another Dinosaur that captures the same effect as Momma-Saur and Diana-Saur. This increases the chances of pairing two together for more scaling.
Considering how rare Momma-Saur is, this is a nice change to potentially allow the Dino Destruction archetype to resurface. Either way, Trollosaur looks solid.
