Overview

Pyg's Gym is a Property-scaling archetype that can threaten absurd amounts of Damage. Once built, it can boast impressive numbers, easily capable of breaking through just about anything in its way.

As with most other Value-stacking builds, these are best pursued when found early. Therefore, while it's not particularly difficult to assemble, its viability ultimately comes down to timing.

Example Early Game Path

Core Synergies

  • Pyg's Gym should generally only be considered when found early, ideally between Day 2-5. The sooner the better, as this allows more time to scale its Value.
    • The most efficient method is to buy/sell the cheapest Weapons that are available. Small Bronze items are the best, but later you'll also buy Silver Weapons.
    • Curio can be a fantastic vendor for scaling Pyg's Gym. It's also worth rerolling for more items if you can afford it.
    • The later the run goes the more expensive it becomes, as Gold/Diamond items start appearing.
    • Don't include Pyg's Gym on your board initially. Take some time to scale its Value first, then add it in later.
  • Showcase setups are likely the easiest to pivot from as you can still utilize many of the Weapons until better options are found.
    • Lumboars > Ganjo > Weights are other scaling alternatives.
    • Square/Crook Pyg is another viable approach.
    • Whatever setup you play in the meantime, consider that scaling (or base Damage) as a benchmark. Once Pyg's Gym exceeds that point, swap it in.

Tips & Tricks

  • Rewards Card is one of Pyg's staple Economy items, and a great way to stack Value. Pair it with Pyg's Gym each time you visit a Merchant.
    • It's definitely worth upgrading this when you can, as this will help during the late game once Bronze/Silver items become less available.
  • Pitchfork can be an excellent Value-scaler, but is does occupy a considerable amount of Stash space, so be sure to take that into consideration.
  • ATM should always be purchased early for the Income boost. On a related note, don't forget to visit the Jungle Ruins for the additional +2!

Example Mid Game Additions

Core Synergies

  • Atlatl is one of the few premium Weapons for the build, and can easily become the primary carry once Pyg's Gym is scaled. This is a must buy.
  • Belt is an optional inclusion that trades offense/speed for defense. While not a priority, it can be pretty good with all the Health stacking from Pyg's Gym.

Tips & Tricks

  • Keep an eye out for off-Hero Weapons, as there are several great options that exist outside of Pyg's item pool.
  • Ledger can be an effective item for stacking more Value, but it does require enough Stash space to operate efficiently.
    • This allows you to take advantage of Chocolate Bar and Gumball events, instead of solely relying on finding Weapons to purchase.
  • Business Card is always a nice Economy addition, but only when Stash space isn't a concern.

End Game Build Breakdown

Core Synergies

  • Atlatl and Yo-Yo are Pyg's spammy Weapons of choice to take advantage of the huge Damage scaling.
  • Caltrops is absolutely nuts and will hard counter several opposing builds. At Diamond-tier it's a rare find, but grab it when you can!
  • Balcony effectively doubles the Damage scaling of Pyg's Gym while also reducing its Cooldown. Despite it occupying space, the power spike is worth it.
  • Gramophone can be a great choice to improve the build's startup time, particularly at Diamond-tier (Gold-tier may not be good enough).
  • Keychain lets you double-up your Pyg's Gym usage to massively spike your offense. It's a bit slow, but a nice utility inclusion if you have one slot available.

Tips & Tricks

  • While this build has an incredible offensive output, if the run goes late, it's often vital to have some form of sustain.
    • The easiest way to solve this is with a Restorative or Shielded enchant on your best Weapon.
  • Upgrades do matter quite a bit for certain items. Bootstraps can help solve this, assuming it's of a higher tier than what you currently have on board.
    • If acquired early enough, Bootstraps is an incredible target for your Level 10 Enchantment.
    • Do keep in mind this delays Enchanting your board, so it's best utilized when you have the funds to trigger Bootstraps shortly afterwards.
  • Loupe is always a handy Economy pickup, and can really help a lot if going the Ledger route.

Situational Variants

  • Kukri + Textiles is a great combo that improves startup time as it can help Charge Pyg's Gym.
    • Note that this is only really viable with an upgraded Kukri, as the lowered Cooldown is a necessity.
