Overview

Square Pyg is a Bazaar classic, and is generally known as Pyg's beatdown archetype. It's all about its front-loaded Damage, focusing on taking out the opponent before they have time to scale.

This build is relatively easy to assemble, but it does want to snowball and win as early as possible. If you take too many losses, be prepared to evacuate and find a "Plan B".

Example Early Game Path

Core Synergies

  • Crook is the origin of the "Square Pyg" archetype thanks to its front-loaded Damage for Medium Weapons. Great early, but later replaced with better options.
  • Dog and Regal Blade are both excellent individual threats provided you can progressively complete their Quests. Once online, scaling isn't needed.
  • Lumboars provides early access to Damage scaling while benefiting from buffs itself.
  • Showcase, Weights, and Ganjo are reasonable Damage scalers if you lack better alternatives.
  • Flail is a great early game host for Damage scaling/skills. It also pairs particularly well with Shadowed Cloak.

Tips & Tricks

  • Crook + Atlatl is the classic pair, but won't be worth using until you've got far more Damage scaling. Still, you can grab and Stash an Atlatl if you see it.
  • ATM and Rewards Card are low commitment Economy items worth buying. You can also buy Cash Register if Stash space isn't an issue.
  • If playing Regal Blade, focus on buying/selling the cheapest tagged items as possible. Prioritize Weapons and Apparel, Properties aren't necessary.

Dog Route

  • If you've taken the Dog route, make Chocolate Bar and Gumball events a high priority.
  • Premium Piggles and/or Piggles can also be picked up, but are generally lower priority over other Stash items.
  • As a rule of thumb, you'll want to leave five spaces open in your Stash to maximize obtained Chocolate Bars from the event.

Common Filler Items

  • Atlas Stone (serviceable with Damage scaling and/or skills)
  • Boomerang
  • Briefcase
  • Cash Cannon
  • Ring King Gauntlets
  • Robe

Example Mid Game Additions

Core Synergies

  • Belt is a solid flexible pickup for its excellent Health boost. It also pairs perfectly with Regal Blade, provided you've completed its second Quest.
  • Large Appetites, Heavy Firepower, and Artillery Spotter are all excellent (normally restrictive) skills that this archetype can take advantage of.

Tips & Tricks

  • Evaluate your Quest progress during the mid game. If you're feeling far behind, abandon ship and pivot to another build entirely.
  • Crook does have the potential to carry you through the late game, but it ultimately comes down to how well you're doing, and whether you found upgrades.
  • If you've taken a few losses, be on the lookout for stronger alternatives, as Crook generally isn't strong enough to contest past Day 10-11.
  • Gumball Machine and Vending Machine provide additional Dog Food, although the latter occupies a lot of space.
  • Business Card is another great low commitment Economy item if you can afford the slot.

End Game Build Breakdown

Core Synergies

  • A fully completed Dog and/or Regal Blade will generally define your final build as the primary threat(s).
  • Belt is universally solid if upgraded and a definite inclusion alongside Regal Blade. Lion Cane can be added for the same reason.
  • Gramophone can be used to accelerate Dog or Regal Blade at the cost of an active item.
  • Atlatl is a welcome inclusion, but only if you've acquired enough front-loaded Damage buffs to minimize its Cooldown to one second.
  • Caltrops is a super strong addition that can define certain matchups, provided you've got the scaling for it.

Tips & Tricks

  • Identify your win condition and hone in on it. With multiple threats, go wide. If it's a single item carry, prioritize survivability and Cooldown Reduction.
  • Enchantments can make a huge difference to the build's power level, so choose wisely.
