Overview

In The Bazaar, many of the coolest and craziest builds often come from an unexpected turn of events.

The random nature of what you encounter can lead to some spicy combos that could never realistically be planned out.

Though despite the RNG, you can utilize certain strategies that will give you the key to unlock future doors.

In Pygmalien's case, it's Damage scaling.

Check out this wild run by Kripp to get a breakdown of his thought process and see how this rare pivot was pulled off!

Core Combos and Synergies

Damage Scaling

Pyg has a lot of Weapons that are inherently weak on their own, but are ridiculously strong with some scaling. Atlatl, Caltrops, and Yo-Yo are all perfect examples. In fact, these are actually some of Pyg's best items overall and are often the highlight of any build they are present in.

Knowing this, it can often be worth picking up Damage-increasing skills even if you aren't currently investing into Weapons. Unless you're offered another skill that has strong synergy with your active build, the opportunity cost of picking up some Damage scaling is pretty minimal compared to the massive potential upside.

Beyond Pyg's own item pool exists many other powerful options that thrive with Damage scaling. By playing with this strategy in mind you'll increase your odds of striking gold when you least expect it!

Dragon Whelp

Dragon Whelp is basically a mini Flamethrower that will dish out a ton of Burn if you're able to scale its Damage. While it's not exactly a common find, there are a few ways you can attempt to get it.

The most targeted way is probably the Zookeeper PvE Encounter, but you can also find it as a random item through various means. Pearl's Dig Site is probably the next best chance, or perhaps you'll stumble upon it in a Shipment like Kripp. Whatever the method, this just goes to show how important Damage scaling is for Pyg. Without it, the Dragon Whelp is useless.

One main downside of Dragon Whelp compared to Flamethrower is its speed. A nine second Cooldown is very slow and Pyg definitely lacks Haste enablers compared to other Heroes.

Kripp was able to get a Radiant enchant which was a great insurance against any disruption. With a Cooldown that long, any added Slows or Freezes can often shut the item down entirely.

Fort

Fort has phenomenal synergy with Dragon Whelp. Not only does it grant Multicast, but the flat Cooldown increase will greatly delay the enemy, buying more time for the Burn to tick down.

Unlike many builds which rely on quickly chaining and casting multiple items repeatedly, it generally only takes an activation or two for this kind of setup to get the job done. So while your Cooldowns become even longer, if you can survive until that first round the odds will quickly shift to your favor.

Spices

Spices is incredible with one-Weapon setups as it'll always become a Damage doubler. So long as you've got a decent amount of Damage already, Spices is one of the best ways to take it to greater heights. It's important against builds with high HP or strong Shield scaling, and especially vital during later days of a run (where the top builds are ridiculously scaled).

Kripp also enchanted his Spices with Radiant. This is almost as important as the Dragon Whelp since you ideally want the Spices to trigger beforehand. Having to wait for the second cast because of an unfortunate timed Freeze or Slow can make a huge difference in output.

Supportive Items and Skills

Piggles

Piggles helps trigger the first Spices + Dragon Whelp activations faster. Plus thanks to Fort's Multicast its double-Charge will also bring them closer to their second cast.

Kripp found a Turbo Piggles from Chronos (Sells Haste items), making it even more effective than normal. Although given this particular setup it's a pretty serviceable item on its own, and likely worth using even without the enchant.

Fire Claw

Fire Claw further compounds the build's total Burn by effectively making Dragon Whelp's Burn its own. It'll continue to adjust and scale to match your total Burn, while also doubling down further with Fort.

Kripp got the Restorative Fire Claw from the Infernal Envoy PvE Encounter. Considering there's only six total drops and two of them are the Claw, the odds of getting it are pretty good.

Belt

Belt is a great means of survivability. In a build where the Cooldowns are long but the items are very impactful, a passive boost often goes a lot further than having more active items.

The item tier does matter quite a lot as the HP scaling varies greatly between SIlver/Gold/Diamond. Though thankfully this build doesn't actually rely on many upgrades to function, as most of the scaling comes from skills. Aside from getting Fort to Diamond, Belt is probably the next best choice for targeted upgrades.

Strong Arm

Strong Arm is a great form of Damage scaling that fits well with Pyg's Economy game plan. It's one of many options that can get you closer to a solid flat Damage baseline.

Left-Handed and Right-Handed are also great pickups, though one benefit to Strong Arm is that it scales much better with future upgrades. The other two tend to have pretty diminishing returns on upgrades, as you only get an additional 10 Damage per tier.

Lethargy

Lethargy can look like a scary choice on the surface, as it will drastically slow your build down even further. However, the tradeoff is often worth it because when combined with Fort it'll also do a number on your opponent.

While your Cooldowns will definitely be extended longer than theirs, it's important to remember that many builds either want to burst enemies down or scale up to unstoppable levels. Lethargy makes this extremely difficult because while they need multiple triggers to get going, you only need one.

Keen Eye

Keen Eye gives the build some static flat Crit Chance. Being a slower build, it generally can't take advantage of Crit skills that scale during a fight, so try to find a more direct source.

Given the Burn scaling rate between Dragon Whelp + Spices, it's okay if you can't get a reliable amount of Crit. However, it certainly helps to have at least some Crit, especially when playing slow builds that don't trigger often. You gotta make every time count!
