The BazaarThe Bazaar Pygmalien Guide and Overview

In this Pygmalien guide for The Bazaar, we'll explain how Pygmalien works, from his playstyle to his example Builds.

Overview

Lore

From The Bazaar site:

"A shrewd Jaballian who dreams of life as a tycoon, Pygmalien leverages his knowledge of investments, economics, and income generation to get a leg up in The Bazaar...at his opponent's expense, of course."

Playstyle

While Pygmalien does have ways to play aggressively (he can literally beat you up with a Yo-Yo), he's typically seen as the slow and steady hero.

This is because of his economic capabilities that allow him to scale his income to levels the other heroes can't get anywhere close to.

If you manage Pyg's finances correctly, he can become virtually invincible and even win battles without a single weapon - he can simply outlast his enemies and let the timed sandstorm kill them.

How to Unlock Pygmalien

Pygmalien must be unlocked using Gems. If you get a Founder's Pack you'll have enough Gems to buy both him and Dooley.

If not, you'll need to unlock Pygmalien by earning Gems from the ranked ladder.

Economic Power

Pygmalien has a wide range of Tools and Properties that can generate Gold and scale off of it.

If you didn't know, out-of-combat effects like the Cash Register can be triggered from inside your Stash.

So if you're playing Pygmalien right, you'll have to constantly pay attention to your inventory and makes sure no slot goes to waste.

Once you have your economic engine running, you can hit more upgrades more often, and make massive investments that would bankrupt other heroes.

Example Items

Rewards Card

Rewards Card is an Economy item that requires regular inventory management in order to captilize on its benefits. While it's great at generating extra gold, it can also be used to scale items that increase power based on their cost.

One of the more unique aspects of the item is that it can influence your pathing during the run. Note that it only activates when you visit a Merchant, which means you may opt for more vendors over events. All that said, on average it'll easily generate more value than it costs, making it a great item to pickup whenever you see it.

Fixer Upper

Fixer Upper is a Property item that upgrades itself at the start of each day. This makes it a great purchase in the early game, as after just three days, you can turn a Bronze Property into a Diamond one.

This is a perfect example of how time is money. But don't forget, it does come with an opportunity cost because Stash space is a valuable resource for Pygmalien.

Bootstraps

Bootstraps is a unique Economy item. It doesn't actually produce any gold, but instead provides a reliable way to upgrade your items, so long as your Income can support it. The more you spend, the more you'll be rewarded.

While the upgrade target is random, it can be somewhat controlled with proper item management. Knowing you can only upgrade items at a lower tier than the Bootstraps, you can always sell any unnecessary items prior to your next 50 gold trigger. This increases the odds (or occasionally guarantees) that you'll upgrade the desired target.

Feed Your Stacks

While other Heroes have access to stacking effects, Pygmalien has the most.

This works in tandem with his economic strength since buying and selling items are often the triggers for his stacks.

For example, Beast of Burden gains more Damage every time you buy an item.

Similarly, you have the Lemonade Stand which gains Max Health every time you sell a Small item.

Be sure to prioritize upgrading these items as soon as possible, as their stacking amounts increase based on their rarity tier.

If you anticipate a potential upgrade (via nearby level-up reward or upcoming shops), consider holding onto any applicable items before selling them!

Example Items

Dog

Dog, just like Lemonade Stand, scales whenever you sell a Small item. This is great since Small items are cheap, and even better when you can take advantage of events that produce multiple items such as Gumballs or Chocolate Bars.

It's a great choice early on since it doesn't require a ton of gold to build up.

Pyg's Gym

Pyg's Gym is a little more specific in that it requires you to buy Weapons in order to scale. However, it shares the benefit of Lemonade Stand in that it increases your Max Health regardless of whether it stays on your board. As an added bonus, it grows in value every time you purchase a Weapon.

While it can't benefit from the likes of Chocolate Bars, it does remove the size restriction, making it actually easier to scale in some cases. It's definitely worth the investment if your Income can afford it.

Pawn Shop

Pawn Shop has the most flexibility of the bunch, allowing every sold item to scale the Property. However, it does take a bit of time to get going and doesn't provide any actual benefits (beyond gold investment) while just sitting in your Stash.

But once it's had enough time to scale, you can either take advantage of its huge Max Health buff by including it on your board, or cash it in for a ton of gold.

The Best Offense is a Good Defense

If you like to play defensively, Pygmalien has the most access to Shields, Healing, and Health stacking options.

In fact, you'll even see Pygs that opt for builds that have barely any offensive capabilities at all.

After 30 seconds during a fight, the sandstorm kicks in and does damage to you and your enemy, so if you're tankier, you can win by outlasting them.

With items like Spiky Shield, which deals Damage equal to your Shield, you can often turn your defense into offense with a single swing that one-shots your opponent.

Example Items

Landscraper

Landscraper is one of the best Shield items in the game. Its rate of activation is based on the rest of your board, meaning with the right setup, it can spam a ridiculous amount of Shield. Perfect support for Spiky Shield.

It works great with Rewards Card as you can further scale its gold value for a stronger Shield effect. Combine this with Shield skills and it gets out of hand very quickly.

Vineyard

Vineyard is essentially the Healing counterpart to Landscraper. While it can't stack up extra "Health" for the sandstorm, it still triggers at ridiculous rates, and can often activate even more times thanks to synergistic items like Uwashiwali Bird.

However, instead of bolstering Shield Damaging items, it can scale up items like Golf Clubs or couple with Weights to increase other items on board. Unlike Spiky Shield, they don't rely on maintaining an active Shield to deal Damage. A nice trade-off.

Belt

Belt is as straightforward as it looks, but powerful nonetheless. Increasing Max Health can be a big deal in a fight, especially when combined with other forms of scaling such as Pyg's Gym or Pawn Shop.

If you want to take it a step further, you can pair it with Weapons like Lion Cane that deal Damage based on your Max Health.
