Introduction
This is my preferred approach for taking Heirophant through the campaign. This approach scales nicely into Wander w
Power Siphon and
Ballista Totem Support (I run this and make $$$ then swap over to
Mjolner after assembling some currency).

The Mule
I find
Rolling Magma to be an incredibly not enjoyable skill to use (and I see that many agree). So here's what you do instead.
Roll a Ranger, grab
Caustic Arrow at town, and grab an
Iron Ring.
Go finish the first two relevant quests ("Breaking Some Eggs", which is the Rhoa quest in the Mud Flats is required, and then "Mercy Mission", which is grabbing the Medicine Chest on Tidal Island).
Go to vendor to buy the shopping list. Any extra $$ you have you can snag more
Iron Ring or buy a Wand.
Shopping List:
1 - Grab
Kinetic Bolt which is an enjoyable leveling skill and wand-based, and old man can't get it to start
2 - Grab
Sniper's Mark which Old Man does not get access to for a long time and really helps beefy boys
3 - Grab
Momentum Support for our
Shield Charge, which again Old Man doesn't get until A3
4 - If you finished Mercy Mission you also get an additional
Quicksilver Flask, which is great because the Old Man is slow AF
** This process takes about 5-10 minutes and makes the next 2 hours MUCH better and potentially saves that time back + some if you do it right.

The Old Man
Okay now we're ready to roll the templar, grab all the muled gear, and fly.
In town you can buy
Prismatic Burst Support to socket with
Kinetic Bolt which is VERY nice early on.
By the time you get to Level 4, you are decked out with:
Kinetic Bolt +
Prismatic Burst Support
Holy Flame Totem +
Summon Phantasm Support
Shield Charge +
Momentum Support
You also have
Frostblink,
Flame Wall, and
Sniper's Mark
If you did everything right you also have: 2x
Quicksilver Flask +2x
Iron Ring
Old man is ready to rock

From here, you will scale into the links I have in Pre-Swap Variant.
Post-swap after Act 3 Library depends on what you are building.
Palsteron's is best for Totem + Wand Power Siphon imo: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WhVwjbJD8_U
Personally, I'll be following Palsteron until I have the $$ to swap to
Mjolner. Switching to Mjolner early can be brutal for speed and survivability, and big scaling tiers are $$$, so I like to wait.
I am newer to POE1 scene, have a lot understood but still super DS in many ways... with that I'll be updating this guide for that progression as I go.
