About this Build

Shield Crush

This is an age-old archetype of POE1 that revolves around a single skill: Shield Crush. The skill converts the defensive stats on your shield into flat damage.

Why Play this Build

The archetype is famous because it is ideal for DEEP DELVE content.

I find it fantastic for league start because:

  • From Level 10 on it CRUSHES campaign.
  • It does not slough off in early/mid-mapping on Day 1 (like many builds do with item dependencies).
  • It is not WEAPON stat dependent at all.
  • It is beautifully tanky
  • It has no end game content limitations.

How to Use this Guide

The BULK of this guide is a step-wise progression for campaign and mapping. This is a fairly standardized template I've used for many runs with success, and I've dedicated a lot of time to carefully outlining the progression for you (with the assumption that you are new to the build and maybe new to POE1 overall).

As I scale the endgame in 3.28, I will add end game variants that are specific to different content, with a special nod to DEEP DELVE, and to T16.5 Nightmare Map boss farming. Both of these content types will be lucrative this season.

Regex

I've provided a very CAREFULLY curated REGEX for Acts 1,2,3 and 6 (gem swap). Note the descriptions of each so you understand how it works.

Regex for Act 1:

    • Show various red+green links and movement speed
    • Highlights any potential shield, you have to manually check stats
    • Keep in mind that you always need a blue socket for Frostblink:

Loot Filter

The loot filter is VERY specific to the progression for this build. It highlights and plays sounds for ALL shields you should check. And it will also begin hiding shields when you get to an area level of a higher tier shield you care about. Campaign filter:

Variant: Level 98-100 - Final Form

Description

This variant is on a magnitude you can safely tell your friends about. More importantly, you can descend delve to your heart's content, and with great efficiency. Enjoy.

Our EHP goes over 550K and our Combined DPS reaches ~30 million (assuming a 2 Overlapping Waves hit).

The main shifts in the approach in this variant are:

1 --> Armour Stacking, we now use Untiring with a Replica Dreamfeather as our 1-H, which adds a global damage modifier based on our armour.

2 --> 90 Max all Resist achieved via a Flesh/Flame combo for Valako, Storm's Embrace.

3 --> We become one with the soul eater with Soul Ascension gloves. This does not really express itself in the POB, but you will see its uptime and value in Delve for sure. Look for an implicit on these that gives at least +0.7% to Critical Hit Chance (this is a base crit modifier, not just additive).

Equipment

Like with the previous progressing variants, new uniques enable new synergies all over the build. To explain a few:

1 --> Replica Dreamfeather replaces our longstanding unique sword to capitalize on the % Attack Damage per 450 armour.

At certain points in the league, corrupted implicits on the sword can be very cheap. Look for Melee Hits have 15% Chance to Fortify and Onslaught on Kill.

2 --> Soul Ascension give us a permanently scaling Soul Eater effect, which is especially potent in Deep Delve, where the fun never ends.

Look for an implicit on these that gives at least +0.7% to Critical Hit Chance (this is a base crit modifier, not just additive).

3 --> Our Flesh/Flame combo jewel activates Valako, Storm's Embrace, allowing us to Cap all resistance with ease.

4 --> The Watcher's Eye jewel has a lot of flexibility. Search the mods related to Precision, Determination, and/or Pride with this link here:

5 --> The Light of Meaning (Armour) further stacks our armour, which has various synergies, including a direct damage scaling with Dreamfeather.

Look for one with an implicit that reduces chill effect.

Do note that a nice boofy Defiance of Destiny is ultimately what holds up the Cold and Lightning Resistances to the 90 cap. This will be an expensive upgrade compared to lesser options on the neck, and there isn't really room to accomplish this elsewhere without huge sacrifice. Make sure your defiance has at least 20% of the recovery effect.

The Anoint on the amulet is important. Top choices to consider:

1 --> Sanctuary --> Defensive node that gives you a +1 max if needed (must hit 90 all)

2 --> True Strike --> Massive DPS / crit node

3 --> Forceful Skewering --> Can cap off Impale chance to 100 if you aren't there yet

Also note that the Ruby Flask is not a meme, we simply want to have permanent flask enchantment of 3% of life per second.
