Build Overview

Heyo, welcome to the build guide for Flicker Mage at Home. Descriptions may well change as I continue to optimise the build but the main tree, equips, and gems are ready for you to draw from. Will add video showcase and other variants later on.

The basis of this build is the life-stacking Blood Mage, main difference is we use a Rare ES chest piece and Crimson Power instead of Kaom's Heart so we can have spirit for Cast on Critical.

The flicker effect comes from self-casting Arc that puts mobs to culling range with Piety's Mercy. That way it triggers CoC Lightning Warp that does the culling wherever your Arc goes.

Strengths and Weaknesses

  • Fun, fast clear - can pick your own level of chaos
  • One gem swap and you can delete pinnacles
  • No elemental resists, easier gearing
  • Tecrod jewel, Life remnants, and spell leech make this one tanky build
  • The Warp can take you anywhere (if you hear something about skulls and thrones, you've gone too far)
  • Need one gem swap to delete pinnacles
  • No elemental resists
  • Takes a bit of time to build regen

-Rathpith Globe is a must for the lifestack element of the build.

- Undying Hate with TECROD is a must for the regen element of the build.

- Atalui's Bloodletting is your main skill damage scaling from lifestacking.

-Dueling Wand can be any Wand base, important stats are +Gem levels and Crit chance. Then +% damage as x, cast speed, spell crit damage.

-Chiming Staff in second weapon slot for good 'ol Sigil of Power. You can slam a +5 all spell skills level with an essence.

-Veil of the Night scales life and damage higher. Also means we only care about capping Chaos res. You can opt for a rare helm if you prefer to go with elemental res. Will be less damage.

-Gold Amulet can be any amulet base, +life base is better for damage of course. +gem level is most important, then %life, flat life. The rest is up to you, Crit chance, Crit damage, cast speed, all good stuff.

-Vile Robe As high ES as you can find/afford to give more life from Crimson Power ascendancy node. Some chaos res is nice here too.

-Atziri's Acuity helps with crit chance and to quickly refill life as you spend it casting and Warping.

-Ring slots are open, Seed of Cataclysm is a good damage option. Andvarius for rarity. Or grab rare rings for %increase lightning, cast speed, more life, etc.

-Belt slot also open, take your favourite Ingenuity, Darkness Enthroned, Soul Tether, or a good 'ol Rare belt for more Chaos res and life.

-Boots movespeed and chaos res. Mainly for you to sprint faster towards that Div or HH you heard you dropped whilst your screen flickers at 2 seconds per frame :D

-Time-Lost Sapphire with Large radius and your preference of crit damage, cast speed, %inc ele for damage or grab some with ES for a bit more defence against one-shots. Put this in the jewel slot near Elemental Equilibrium for maximum effect.

- Grand Spectrum more life, more damage, more defence against one shots.

- Sapphire if you haven't capped crit chance, then you want %crit chance as a priority. Otherwise, %crit damage, cast speed, inc ES, all good stuff.

- Megalomaniac have plenty of options, Gem Enthusiast so you can anoint something else, more defense like Ancient Aegis, Calibration, or Fast Metabolism. More damage options like Throatseeker, Barbaric Strength, Heartbreaking, or a bit of both with Warding Fetish as it would be affected by your Time-Lost Sapphire as well.

Atalui's Bloodletting and Piety's Mercy are required for the build, other unique supports like Uhtred's Omen and Esh's Radiance push the damage ceiling but not essential.

If your Arc is not generating much CoC, it's usually because Arc is doing too little damage compared to the monster's threshold (see new description for Cast on Critical). If your Arc is strong enough, you can have Nova Projectiles instead of Sione's Temper for consistent chain warps

Note: Atalui's is shown twice, once in Arc and once in the CoC setup. This is to illustrate that you move the Atalui support gem when you want to map or pinnacle bossing.

Sigil of Power and Elemental Weakness are in weapon set 2 to benefit from AoE and curse magnitude from the tree.

Firestorm, Ember Fusillade, and Mana Tempest are only there for extra slots to meet Gem Enthusiast requirements.

All Gems generally want to be as high level as they can be. The only one you can keep low is the self-cast Lightning Warp, I only use this to cull random stragglers.

Undying Hate Conquered by Tecrod is a must to get Sacrifice of Blood keystone. I have mine placed near Blackflame Covenant north of the Blood Mage starting point.

Another option is to put it by Walker of the Wilds but this cost you an extra passive point to allocate.

Blood Magic to convert full mana cost to life cost.

Zealot's Oath to overflow our life regen to our ES.

How it Plays

For Mapping, put Atalui's Bloodletting into Arc. Use Multishot II if you want more control or use Nova Projectiles if you are willing to surrender to the Warp! Just hold down arc and 'aim' at mobs to keep Warping.

For Bossing, put Atalui's Bloodletting into Cast on Critical for your Lightning Warp. Use the self-cast Ball Lightning to trigger CoC and delete bosses.

If your gear and jewels are good enough for Arc to clear mobs in maps without having Atalui in it, then you can just keep running on the 'bossing' set up.

How it Works

The flicker part:

With Arc having enough damage to clear mobs in maps, we use Piety's Mercy to make sure we leave every mob we find at cull threshold. This also builds up Cast on Critical, triggering Lightning Warp that will target any and all cull-able monsters within range.

We purposely don't have Ball Lightning in our mapping set up to force Lightning Warp to chain from one monster to the next, and as long as the mob density is high enough - keep holding down Arc and the Warp really can take you through the entire map!

When culling, Lightning Warp creates Lightning Infusion that we collect to give Arc 6 additional Chains, making you warp even further.

The bossing part:

Take Atalui's Bloodletting out of Arc and put it in Cast on Critical.

At the boss, drop Elemental Weakness and Sigil of Power on the floor, then self-cast Ball Lightning to trigger Cast on Critical+Lightning Warp to delete the boss.

BEWARE if you're doing Kulemak's invitation, there is a bug where we beat Kulemak so fast, he goes invisible for the rest of the fight.
