SSF can be punishing and is quite a bit harder than the default game mode. Some builds do not do well in the game mode at all.
It’s based on data rather than opinion – how many of the top 1000 players by XP were playing each ascendancy? How many of those had reached level 92? There were 41 level 92+ characters in SSF at the time.
This is a preliminary list and will change a lot, there’s heaps of tech to discover still.
I have adjusted slightly for hype levels, but less than the day 3 video. Not everyone has had time to reroll, but everyone who has played enough to get onto the ladder has had time to reroll.
Invoker was the highest hype class going into POE2, so we expect more people are playing it than any other class. More people playing means it is expected to push more people into the top 1000, and so it is held to a higher standard.
The first number is the % of the top 1000 players by XP running that Ascendancy; the second is the number of level 92+ players.
More attention is paid to the highest level characters.
For both numbers, higher is better.

A+ tier: Infernalist (17.4%/8)
A tier: Titan (14.2%/4), Deadeye (17.2%/6), Invoker (15.8%/8)
B tier: nothing
C tier: Warbringer (5.5%/1), Pathfinder (2.3%/1), Witchhunter (7.2%/0), Gemling Legionnaire (3.7%/1)
D tier: Blood Mage (2.6%/0)
F tier: Acolyte of Chayula (1.2%/0), Chronomancer (1.1%/0)
