Spirit Overview

Spirit is a brand new resource in Path of Exile 2. By default, reservation skills such as Auras, now called Persistent Buffs, will reserve Spirit.

This is another massive change going from Path of Exile 1 to Path of Exile 2, as all characters will now have a full mana pool by default, regardless of how many reservation abilities they're using.

You can view the Spirit bar just above your Mana Pool as a small cream colored border. You can hover over your Mana Pool to see how much Spirit you have/how much you are currently using.

You can also go into the Interface settings and click "Show Life/Mana Levels" which will display your Life/Mana/Spirit at all times.

Spirit is largely obtained from the campaign and items. We'll cover how to get Spirit, but first let's briefly touch on how to use Spirit.

How to Use Spirit

Spirit is a resource that you reserve to maintain Persistent effects such as but not limited to:

  • Defensive/Offensive Buffs (known as Auras in PoE 1)
    • Herald of Thunder
    • Arctic Armour
  • Summoning Minions
    • Skeletal Frost Mage
    • Skeletal Warrior
  • Meta/Trigger Gems
    • Cast on Shock
    • Cast on Minion Death

To activate these effects, go into your Skill Menu (press G by default on PC), then right click on the skill effect to activate.

Getting Spirit from the Campaign

Every character upon completing the campaign should have 100 Spirit. You will need to do the corresponding quests to get Spirit, but here's the breakdown:

  • Act 1: 30 Spirit (The King in the Mists in Freythorn)
  • Act 3: 30 Spirit (Ignagduk, The Bog Witch in The Azak Bog)
  • Act 6: 40 Spirit (Ignagduk, The Bog Witch in The Azak Bog)

For a complete list of permanent buffs you can get from the campaign, you can read our Permanent Buffs Guide.

How to Get Spirit on Items

While every character gets 100 Spirit by default, many characters will want to obtain more to use more Persistent effects.

You can get Spirit on items as Implicit Modifiers (intrinsic to the item) or Explicit Modifiers (random stats on Magic/Rare items)

Implicit and Explicit Modifiers

  • Solar Amulet
    • Implicit 10-15 Spirit
  • Rattling Sceptre
    • Implicit Modifier on any Sceptre. 100 Spirit
    • Can be increased further by Explicit Modifiers on the Sceptre
    • Highest tier modifiers can increase the Spirit to over double (200+)
  • Explicit Modifier on any Amulet (30-50 Spirit)
  • Explicit Modifier on any Body Armour (exact range unknown, approximately 10-50)

Rare Sources of Spirit (Trial of Chaos)

You can also get a bit more Spirit on items you find in the Trial of Chaos. Some of these items will be Corrupted (meaning you cannot craft on them anymore) but also grant +20-30 Spirit.

(Appears to only be Helmets. PoE 1 players may refer to these items as Enchant or Enchanted)

You can also obtain a Soul Core of Azcapa (similar to Runes) which will grant +15 Spirit upon socketing into a Martial Weapon.

Other Sources of Spirit

In general, the most common way to gain Spirit is through the campaign, Sceptres, Body Armours, and Amulets.

However, there are more special cases that provide Spirit:

Beidat's Will (Infernalist Ascendancy Passive Skill)

Unique Items with Spirit

  • Alpha's Howl (+100 Spirit)
  • Oaksworn (+50 Spirit)
  • Enfolding Dawn (+100 Spirit)
  • Ventor's Gamble (+0-20 Spirit)
  • Ligurium Talisman (+25-35 Spirit)
  • Pariah's Embrace (+50 Spirit)
