Build Overview

09/20 update: Patch 0.3 is here and I have decided to not continue updating this build. I believe the build should still be very playable, some support gems are changed and The Deepest Tower is no longer in the game but I think you would simply replace everything related to that helm (all the presence nodes) with Constricting Command and the "while surrounded" nodes at the bottom of the tree instead.

MAKE SURE TO USE THE BUILD VARIANTS TO SEE THE BUILD'S PROGRESSION.

What is this build?

Rapid Assault Spearfield Titan is a combination of fun spear gameplay mixed with the tankiness of being a warrior. Feeling squishy as a huntress? Not an issue here.

AoE:

Use Infernal Cry near monsters, place down Spearfield 2 or 3 times and kite your enemies into the spears to make all your enemies bloody via Lacerate. Add in Herald of Blood with Haemocrystals and Blood Hunt the low-life enemies from afar and you have very solid clear.

Single Target:

There are two single-target situations you will find yourself in:

Non-moving targets:

Bloodhound's Mark > Infernal Cry > Rapid Assault x2 (or x3 depending on infernal cry empowerment) > Finish off with Blood Hunt when enemy is under 35% life.

Mobile targets:

Bloodhound's Mark > Infernal Cry > Spearfield x3 > Infernal Cry > Rapid Assault x2 (or x3 depending on infernal cry empowerment) > Finish off with Blood Hunt when enemy is under 35% life.

Defense:

Use Parry or Raise Shield to block incoming small hits and then Disengage to fall back to safety. Also just Disengage and dodge roll to move between packs quickly. Ocarina of Time speedrunners will feel right at home.

We also get pretty tanky, armour, block and parry are pretty good defensively.

Strengths and Weaknesses

  • Great Clear
  • Doesn't require any uniques to function
  • Not Lightning Spear
  • Squishy against volatiles and slams
  • Not the zoomiest (Disengage is pretty good though)
  • Not Lightning Spear

Build Variants

Act 2 Down. Jamanra was TOUGH, but what a rush. Also it gets much better in act 3 as we get level 2 support gems and start 4 socketing them.

This is the gear I was able to beat Jamanra with at level 27 (it's a level 32 zone).

Nothing optimal here, just focus on getting a spear with high physical damage on it, keep it updated.

Get an evasion shield for the Parry ability, which is essential for Disengage to be fun.

Get armour bases otherwise and fit dexterity and strength in where you can.

Keep your flasks up to date with the best ones!

Whirling Slash until you get Spearfield and can support it. Use basic attack for bosses until you get Rapid Assault.

Very simple setup, place two or three Spearfield down (more will erase the first ones) and let the enemies come to you. For those that don't move around much... Rapid Assault or basic attack them down and use Parry then Disengage when hits are coming your way.

Blood Hunt ends up being our best bet for single target in combination with Rapid Assault, alternating between them. Rapid Assault has an inherent bleed on the final hit so you want to then take advantage of it via blood hunt.

Herald of Blood is massive for AoE clear, all your bleeding enemies will explode on death and since we have Lacerate on Spearfield, that means most if not all enemies are gonna be bleeding and popping all over the place.

Wind Dancer can be slotted in if you get an early second spirit gem AND have the spirit for it via a +max spirit upgrade on gear. If you do, remove Vitality from Herald of Blood to have enough spirit.

Infernal Cry is great for buffing up your Rapid Assault or Blood Hunt hits. Make sure to use a low level gem and keep it low to save on mana costs. I keep mine at level 3 and it works out fine.

Pick Dexterity as your travel nodes, you might even have to grab dex nodes right at the start to equip spears from the beginning and spec out of them later on at the Hooded One when you can.

Priority:

1) Smash

2) Relentless

3) Devastation

4) Impair and Reaving

5) Crushing Verdict

Ascendancy:

I'm going for Titan though I can imagine the others could work too. The plan is to be tanky so Titan just makes sense.

Order I'm planning on taking:

1) Crushing Impacts

2) Surprising Strength

3) Mysterious Lineage

4) Either Stone Skin or Colossal Capacity. Haven't decided yet.

Changelog

04/07 update: Added an act 3 progression variant and an accompanying video overview for those who prefer watching than reading.

04/09 update: Act 4-5 progression variant added. Just wanted to mention that the build is performing REALLY well in Cruel difficulty and becoming even more fun as we gain access to level 3 support gems. I have now finished act 5 (act 2 cruel).

04/11 update: Started the endgame, had to upgrade nearly all my gear for survivability but this is to be expected.

04/14 update: Endgame is going well so far. Comfortably doing T10 maps at level 80 with maybe 20-30 exalts worth of gear (+ a lucky ventors ring I found). Experimenting with for stun immunity. Lack of dodge roll is lame though. New Variant added as well as an updated overview video.

04/20 update: The build is obliterating T15s and normal difficulty pinnacle bosses now. Adding another variant to the build guide so look at it for more progression inspiration once you have a few divines to invest into the character. Making good use of the new unique helm The Deepest Tower.
