2025 has had some fantastic game releases, and the 2025 Game of the Year race is looking tougher than ever. In this article, we will look at the best releases coming out this October. For a detailed list of all releases, head over to our calendar release article!

The Games

Ghost of Yōtei

Release Date: PS5 - October 2

Ghost of Yōtei

Set 329 years after Ghost of Tsushima, Ghost of Yōtei brings a new chapter to feudal Japan’s mythic narratives. Players control Atsu, a wandering mercenary whose family was slaughtered by the ruthless “Yōtei Six.” The game tells a story of vengeance, as you hunt down each member of the clan in any order she chooses.

The game encourages exploration, as it offers a lot of narrative freedom. You can tackle each of the Six Yōtei in your preferred order and do things your way! To avoid open-world fatigue, Sucker Punch is focusing on the density of encounters, compelling vertical and terrain traversal, and meaningful side missions rather than filler content.

The only downside to Ghost of Yōtei is that, like its predecessor, it’s a PS5 exclusive. Although we might see it on PC soon!

Absolum

Release Date: PC, Switch, PS4, PS5 - October 9

Absolum

Absolum is a sidescrolling roguelike beat’em up made by the developers of Streets of Rage 4. Set in the fantasy land of Talamh, it blends Golden Axe-style combat with modern progression. Players pick from four heroes, each with unique skills.

Runs feature branching paths, quests, and permanent upgrades, with support for solo and co-op play (online and local split-screen co-op).

Its hand-drawn art, high replayability, and soundtrack make it a standout fusion of classic arcade action and roguelite depth. Mick Gordon has contributed to this soundtrack, who you might know from his work on Doom.

Battlefield 6

Release Date: PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S - October 10

Battlefield 6

Building on decades of large-scale warfare, this edition promises modernised maps, destructible environments, and seamless transitions between ground, air, and naval combat. Expect the signature destruction system to return, alongside expanded tools like deployable gadgets, drones, and updated vehicle classes.

EA emphasises cross-play between platforms and tighter integration with eSports and seasonal live-service content. If you’ve played Battlefield, then you know its entertainment value highly hinges on the scale of its battles, so cross-play is a must!

Multiplayer modes will include fan favourites like Conquest, Rush, Team Deathmatch, and new hybrid variants.

Little Nightmares 3

Release Date: PC, Switch, Switch 2, PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X|S - October 10

Little Nightmares 3

The haunting, atmospheric Little Nightmares series returns! The game retains the franchise's trademark blend of puzzle-platforming, stealth, and environmental storytelling, scaled up with new mechanics. Expect expanded traversal tools (e.g. grappling, modular tools), evolving shadow mechanics, and more verticality in level design.

The narrative is expected to weave a deeper tale of innocence, corruption, and uncanny worlds. As with prior games, atmosphere, lighting, and sound design will play pivotal roles in building dread rather than outright horror.

Pokémon Legends: Z-A

Release Date: Switch, Switch 2 - October 16

Pokemon Legends Z:A

Developed by Game Freak, Pokemon Legends: Z-A continues the sub-series with a semi-open world set in Lumiose City, now being redeveloped as a “future metropolis.” The game combines exploration, real-time action, and turn-based battles, building upon mechanics introduced in Legends: Arceus.

Players can freely encounter Pokémon in the wild, craft items, and complete missions while uncovering the city’s history and mysteries.

Ninja Gaiden 4

Release Date: PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S - October 21

Ninja Gaiden

Team Ninja have been busy making other bangers - Wo Long, Nioh, Rise of the Ronin, Dead or Alive, to name a few. But after a decade of slumber, we’re finally getting a new Ninja Gaiden. Players once again step into the role of Ryu Hayabusa, facing new supernatural threats in a darker, more cinematic story.

The game emphasises lightning-fast combat, brutal difficulty, and mastery of weapons ranging from dual blades to ninpo magic.

Jurassic World Evolution 3

Release Date: PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S - October 21

Jurassic World 3

Frontier’s park management sim returns with Jurassic World Evolution 3. Players design and manage parks, balancing guest satisfaction, security, and research, while responding to bio-threats and natural disasters.

Its deeper management systems and cinematic presentation mean Jurassic World continues the franchise’s blend of creativity, strategy, and dinosaur thrills.

Vampire: The Masquerade  - Bloodlines 2

Release Date: PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S - October 21

Vampire: The Masquerade

The sequel to the 2004 cult classic, Bloodlines 2, is set in modern-day Seattle. Players assume the mantle of a vampire in the Masquerade world, navigating clan politics, supernatural powers, and moral dilemmas. Dialogue, choice, and branching narrative remain central, with an expanded emphasis on social stealth, feeding, and influence systems.

Combat blends melee weapons with vampiric powers, with upgrades and character customisation across vampiric disciplines.

The elephant in the room is its troubled development history. It may suggest that the scope may have been trimmed, or that there’s true dedication to making a game worthy of its predecessor. Either way, Paradox has committed to post-launch support and narrative expansions.

Dispatch

Release Date: PC, PS5 - October 22

Dispatch

Dispatch earns the title of strangest game concept for this month! It’s a superhero game that combines elements of management. You play as a dispatch operative working in an office space.

It’s a story-rich tactical action game. Players make split-second decisions in high-stakes missions where choices carry consequences. Combining real-time strategy, quick reactions, and narrative gameplay, it emphasises tension, consequence, and immersive decision-making, offering a unique thriller experience.

The Outer Worlds 2

Release Date: PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S - October 29

The Outer Worlds 2

After the runaway success of the original, The Outer Worlds 2 promises a return to satirical, choice-driven sci-fi RPG adventure.

Created by Obsidian Entertainment, who you might recognise from Fallout New Vegas and Knights of the Old Republic 2, Outer Worlds will deliver branching narrative arcs, companion loyalty quests, and morally ambiguous decisions. Combat will expand with new weapon classes, better AI companions, and more engaging enemy factions.

Obsidian has hinted at larger explorable star systems, more vertical environments, and deeper faction mechanics. Given Obsidian’s track record, post-launch expansions and mod tools are almost certain.

Arc Raiders

Release Date: PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S - October 30

Arc Raiders

Developed by Embark Studios, the highly anticipated Arc Raiders. It’s a PvPvE extraction shooter blending co-op, contested zones, and high-stakes loot runs.

Players venture into a post-apocalyptic world dominated by robotic adversaries (the ARCs), while also competing with each other for objectives and resources.

Unlike many free-to-play shooters, Arc Raiders opts for a premium model, priced between $40 and $60. The launch timing is quite ambitious, arriving just 20 days after Battlefield 6.

The devs will run a final “Server Slam” open playtest from October 17–19 to stress test their servers before launch, which will be on October 30th, for PC and console.

There you have it, the most anticipated games for October! Which one are you looking forward to playing the most?
