Overview

Gothic 1 Remake is an action-RPG developed by Alkimia Interactive and published by THQ Nordic.

Mud is one of the Old Camp's most memorable faces, and depending on your patience, one of its most irritating. He's a harmless hanger-on who'll happily trail you around the camp, and there's a rare achievement tied to putting up with him.

This guide covers how to earn the Mud Freak achievement (or trophy, on console). Handily, the very last step also doubles as the cleanest way to get Mud off your back for good. (New to the Colony? Our beginner's guide is here.)

Where to Find Mud

Head into the Old Camp castle and look to the left of the entrance, near Snaf the cook. That's where Mud hangs about.

Talk to him and he'll ask to tag along. Say yes - you can't start the achievement without him in tow. From that point on he'll follow you everywhere, chiming in with some of the most ridiculous comments in the game and cheerfully interrupting your conversations while he's at it. It's as charming as it is annoying.

Hear Him Out

The first (and proper) way to get rid of Mud is to earn his associated achievement.

To unlock the achievement you need to hear every one of Mud's comments, and there are 24 of them in total.

The catch is that not all of them fire on their own. A good chunk only trigger when you're talking to specific characters, so you can't just stand there and wait them out. With Mud in your party, walk the camp and speak to as many people as you can find. He'll pipe up with his two pennies during all sorts of exchanges, and those count.

Don't forget to talk to Mud himself, either. He's got a few dialogue options of his own that you'll need to exhaust.

Finishing the Job

Once you've worked through all camp conversation options, you should be on 23/24. There's one comment left, and it comes after a bit of rough treatment.

Put your weapon away, equip your bare fists, and knock Mud down. When he picks himself back up, he'll deliver his final line, and that's the moment the achievement pops.

It's a two-for-one, really. You walk away with a rare achievement, and Mud finally stops following you around. Hard to argue with that.

The Easy Way to Get Rid of Mud

Of course, there is a much faster way to rid yourself of Mud if you have no heart.

Introducing Mud to the Grim Reaper takes no time at all and will shut him up for good. You can do the deed yourself (even within the Camp wallks - Mud seems to be an exception to the "murder is bad" rule), or kite him to aggressive creatures that will take him off your hands for you.

It's not kind, but it's effective.
