Today, we are taking an in-depth look at one of the three Gatekeepers in DRG Rogue Core: the Ramok Gatekeeper.
The Ramok Gatekeeper can be encountered from Depth 02 onward and is significantly more challenging than the Gotoorak Gatekeeper in many ways.
First, we will go over the boss’s abilities and then discuss the best strategies for defeating him.
Ramok Gatekeeper's Abilities
The Ramok Gatekeeper has 5 different attacks, each with its own condition for when it happens.
Charge Melee
If you are not close to him, he will charge straight at you. Dodge this attack, and he will get stuck for a short time, allowing you to deal some good damage.
However, after Phase 2, you should immediately create distance whenever he charges, since he can follow it up with his tornado attack. More on that later.
Melee Attack
The boss will only use melee attacks if you are within melee range. The attacks deal decent damage, but they will not kill you outright.
Usually, he only performs these attacks after charging, so they are generally not something you need to worry too much about.
Tornado Attack
From Phase 2 onward, the boss will start using tornado attacks that pull you in and can one-shot players in the deeper depths.
This is why you want to move away from his charge attacks as quickly as possible.
Tornado Rock
The tornado itself is not your only concern. While performing the attack, the boss will also pull in rocks that deal even more damage than the tornado itself.
Try your best to avoid getting caught in the tornado, or you are in for a world of hurt.
Strategy
Around the arena, a large number of ammo crates are placed. Do not waste them on the enemy waves during the buildup phase — save them for the boss itself.
These crates provide both ammo and armor, which are extremely important during the fight.
Boss fights often do not contain any Red Sugar, meaning there is no reliable way to heal. As a result, armor becomes your only refillable source of survivability.
Phase 1
During Phase 1, the Ramok Gatekeeper will mostly attempt to charge at you and attack with its melee abilities. That is essentially all it does before you destroy its first shield.
Try to dodge the charge attack and punish it accordingly with gunfire.
Phase 2
Once you deplete the first Shield Bar, Phase 2 begins, which acts more as a transition phase. This happens every time you deplete his Shield Bar.
He will fly above the gate, becoming invulnerable while ejecting one of the cores that keep the gate open. Afterwards, the boss will continue fighting while invulnerable, which can become very dangerous because you now need to multitask.
During this phase, the boss will start using his tornado attack either as a follow-up to his charge attack or while standing still. Stay as far away from him as possible and split up so your entire team does not get pulled into the blender at once.
One of the orbs will crystallize, and you need the boss to use his charge attack on it to break it. Afterwards, throwing it into the gate will destroy it and cause the boss to enter Phase 3.
Do not let the boss remain in this phase for too long, since he can heavily damage your team without punishment, and the fight becomes harder the longer Phase 2 lasts.
Phase 3
This is the last actual phase the boss can enter because once you deplete the shield bar, he will simply return to Phase 2, after which he will eventually enter Phase 3 again.
Phase 3 is essentially identical to Phase 2, except you can now damage him directly.
Repeat the same strategy to dodge the tornado attacks and keep firing at him until he dies.
