How to Earn Reales in Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced

Overview

In the glimmer of every pirate’s eyes and booty, is the infamous Reales currency. It’s used for just about every trade in Black Flag: Resynced, and you’ll need a ton of it in order to fully upgrade your Jackdaw amongst other things. Here are 5 ways you can obtain this currency in the game.

Best Ways to Earn Money In Black Flag Resynced

Diving Bells

After clearing the Sequence 6 mission titled ‘Diving For Medicines,’ you’ll unlock the ability to complete shipwreck dives with your newly purchased diving bell tool, which has now been fixed to your Jackdaw. Shipwreck activities can be located on your map via the diving bell icon, which you should see popping up in numerous locations.

Each dive will net you a good couple of thousand Reales, provided you open all of the chests. An extra benefit of these dives is that you’ll occasionally come across rare weapons, which can be used throughout your adventures. That being said, don’t let these benefits come across as free pleasure; each dive brings with it a number of hazards that can easily take you out if you’re not careful enough.

The biggest (quite literally) threat of all is the sharks that swim around, patrolling the areas through which you’ll swim. If you’re unlucky enough to be spotted by them during your dive, they’ll come rushing towards you within a split second. Unless you’re fast enough to dodge to the side at the last second, you’ll find yourself on the receiving end of a powerful chomp that can kill you.

Aside from sharks, you’ll also have to deal with floating jellyfish and sea urchins, which, when touched, will cause a sharp sting to Edward. These aren’t the worst to deal with, as the last real threat you should actually worry about is your breath consumption. If you’re not poking your head up into air barrels to reset your meter, don’t be surprised if Edward suffocates to death before making it out with the loot salvaged.

Naval Contracts

After clearing fortresses in the game, you'll unlock an accompanying Naval Contract. These can usually be picked up from an NPC quest giver on one of the many nearby islands you'll visit. There's a bunch of these to complete, and each one will net you an easy 2,500+ Reales from the additional plunder you'll find aboard the ships you sink.

There are around 15 Naval Contracts in Resynced, so it’s an unfortunate downside to keep in mind with this method, much like the others listed.

That being said, however, the overall objectives of the contracts are relatively simple and shouldn’t be too hard for most players to complete. There will be the occasional contract that is tough to take down, but these are often few and far between. One that springs to mind is the escort missions, in which a Jackdaw lacking upgrades could potentially run into some real issues. Regardless of difficulty, these contract missions are a fantastic way of making Reales, and they also double as a progression path for upgrading your own ship.

Plundering Rum & Sugar

Directly off the back of the last method of obtaining Reales, we need to talk about an earlier, more targeted option. When you’re all out of contracts and are unsure of what exactly you should be looking for on the open sea, look for these ingredients!

Rum and sugar are two of the most important pieces of plunder to take from ships in Resynced, as there’s no crafting recipe for your Jackdaw that will swallow them up like wood and metal. As a result, you have a permanent source of coin each time you spot a ship sailing by that just so happens to be carrying these items in large quantities.

Rum barrels go for a major 30 Reales per piece, as opposed to the previous price of 15 in the original Black Flag. Sugar, on the other hand, now goes for a staggering 40 Reales each—another double up from the original price. As a result, you’ve now got your hands on two massive wells of wealth for both Edward and his precious Jackdaw, which will certainly be thankful for this new source of income.

The best part of this source is that it bleeds into the other Reale methods listed in this guide, meaning you don’t even need to go after it specifically. Instead, by just following the methods listed, you’ll naturally earn these materials for an easy payday the next time you visit a harbourmaster.

Assassination Contracts

Obtained shortly after you reach Sequence 5, Assassination Contracts are by far one of the fastest ways to earn Reales during your story playthrough. They’re quick, easy to complete, and will net you 2,000 Reales each, provided you complete the optional objective every time. With 30 contracts available in the game, that’s a whopping 60,000 Reales if you complete each one properly.

It’s important to point out that these missions are not simple “go and kill this guy” tasks. The bonus objectives will often ask you to find creative ways to eliminate your target, requiring knowledge of the game mechanics. One contract in particular may ask you to use an explosion to kill an enemy, which will require the correct timing to pull off.

With the payout of these contracts being increased to 1,500 at base in Resynced (as opposed to their 1,000 value in the original Black Flag), they’re a method of earning gold that you really can’t afford to pass up if you want to maximize your profits in the game.

Raiding Warehouses

Last, but certainly not least on our planner for making you one of the richest pirates alive, are the warehouse activities. If you’re not particularly a fan of naval-based methods for earning Reales, this is perfect for you. Warehouses are unlocked during Sequence 5, through the ‘Sugarcane and Its Yields’ mission.

The warehouse activities are often stealth-focused, classic Assassin’s Creed-style gameplay, where you simply need to retrieve a key. Once the key has been obtained, you can open up the warehouse doors and claim your reward. The best part about the rewards is their combination of both naval and non-naval loot. One that we did during our playthrough gave us over 1,500 Reales, along with tons of sugar and rum.

As much as naval combat is a blast (quite literally), sometimes it’s fun to return to where Assassin’s Creed started and get your hands dirty as you hide in bushes, pulling unsuspecting enemies into your deadly hidden blade. The rewards for this activity are fruitful, and the fun you’ll have as you drop a field of 10–20 guards in search of the keys is just as fulfilling. Don’t skip this avenue when searching for ways to get rich!
