Monster Hunter WildsJin Dahaad Guide - Weaknesses, Location, Armor & More

Video Guide

Overview

Jin Dahaad, the Leviathan that dwells on the Iceshard Cliffs. This formidable ice dragon uses its ridge-like cooling organs to scale walls, cling to floating rocks, and amplify its devastating ice attacks. Its ferocious roars will stop you in your tracks, leaving you vulnerable.

As an event-exclusive monster, Jin Dahaad only appears during limited-time quests until High Rank, so be sure to take on this fearsome foe whenever the opportunity arises!

This guide is written by @DerekTheMage.

Location

Jin Dahaad is found exclusively in its frozen arena at the summit of the Iceshard Cliffs, making its movements predictable and limiting its escape routes.

How to Prepare

Jin Dahaad is highly vulnerable to Fire damage, making a Fire-element weapon the best choice for battle. If Fire weapons are unavailable, Thunderis a decent alternative, though it is less effective against Jin Dahaad's reinforced ice plates.

It frequently inflicts Frostblight, momentarily freezing hunters just as it prepares a follow-up attack. The best ways to counter this are using a Cleanser or equipping the Bind Resistance skill.

Lastly, Jin Dahaad may apply Iceblight, this will cause your stamina consumption to rise. This ailment can be cured by rolling repeatedly or consuming a Nulberry. Boosting your Ice resistance will help mitigate the chances of being afflicted.

Mechanics to Look Out For

Ice Beam

Jin Dahaad charges up a powerful Ice Beam dealing lots of damage in a straight line, it may repeat this move up to 2 times.

There are alternate versions of this attack: one where it aims directly downward before raising its head as the beam travels across the room and another where the beam starts on either side of its body before sweeping in a horizontal line.

Any form of this attack can cause Frostblight.

Ice Blast (Frost Mist)

Jin Dahaad releases a freezing mist around its body in a large area. This attack deals minimal damage but applies Frostblight, making you an easy target for a follow-up attack.

Jin Dahaad then aims its head directly at the ground while charging up a massive Ice Blast.

If caught in this attack, you will be afflicted with Frostblight, temporarily immobilizing you.

Falling Ice Blast

Jin Dahaad stands on its hind legs, preparing to land on the ground ahead, creating another massive Ice Blast. Be cautious of the impact when it lands, as it deals significant damage. Putting your weapon away and diving is advised, as it gives you a large invincibility window.

Wall Climb into Charge

After climbing a wall, Jin Dahaad and lets out a roar, preparing to charge while swaying its head from side to side. They can be knocked off the wall with enough damage.

Tail Sweep + Tail Slam (Tail Attacks)

Jin Dahaad raises its tail, preparing to sweep it across the ground to the other side of its body. This attack covers a large area where it hits and can be very difficult to avoid.

Rather than a Tail Sweep, Jin Dahaad raises its tail in the air while ice forms on it. Moments later, it slams down forcefully, creating a large ice explosion. This attack deals a substantial amount of damage.

Frost Shove

Using one of its front legs, Jin Dahaad shoves the ground forward, creating an icy, damaging area in front of it capable of inflicting Frostblight.

Kick

Jin Dahaad reinforces one of its four legs with ice and kicks backward at anyone positioned behind it.

Lunging Bite

Rearing its head back, Jin Dahaad prepares for a lunging attack, biting twice while moving forward.

Perch → Ice Beams

In the third and fourth phases of the fight, Jin Dahaad will climb up and perch on the pillars of ruins before proceeding to shoot Ice beams across the battlefield. Constantly being on the move makes it relatively easy to avoid these attacks.

After several blasts, the structure it is perching on begins to weaken. Using your Claw, you can pull down the portion Jin Dahaad is standing on, causing it to crash to the ground, dealing a large amount of damage and leaving it vulnerable for a short time.

Crystalize

Jin Dahaad’s ultimate move. Using its cooling organs, it absorbs the cold air surrounding it, forming an ice wall around itself while charging up a massive ice explosion. The only reliable way to avoid this move is by using your Claw to pull down a suspended ice chunk, creating a barrier. Standing behind this barrier will protect you from the explosion when the attack finishes charging.

Weak Spots to Focus

  • Body Weak Points: Mouth / Chest
  • Severable Points: Tail Iceplate
  • Breakable Points: All sections

Jin Dahaad’s primary weak points are the specialized cooling ridges along its body. The largest of the ridges on its upper back are extremely tough to break unless others smaller ones are broken first.

As more of these ridges break away, Jin Dahaad’s offensive capabilities will lessen.

Severing its tail shortens the reach of its tail attacks and further limits its cooling efficiency for the rest of the fight.

Turf Wars

Since Jin Dahaad is confined to its arena atop the Iceshard Cliffs, its only known Turf War opponent is Hirabami. Due to Jin Dahaad's sheer size and overwhelming power, even multiple Hirabami pose little threat, serving only as a minor distraction. They mostly serve as a distraction during the fight, aiding in taking his attention away from you.
