Beginners Guide to Using Faelights in LoL

Faelights are a brand new feature in League of Legends Season 26, or Season 16. They spawn across the map and can help your team gain vision and spot the enemy Jungler. These features are pretty OP, with many believing they’re OP and make the game boring, but let’s acknowledge those opinions and get down to it: Faelights are OP in LoL and can grant you a ton of vision to help you stay alive, and spot ganks.

In this Mobalytics guide, we will break down the Faelights and discuss everything you need to know about them, including warding locations, when to ward them, and how to do so. For more articles like this to help you climb in Season 16, head to our Mobalytics guide section.

We will only be breaking down Faelights in this article, but if you want more vision guides or tips and tricks, head over to our in-depth vision guide that breaks down all the warding tips and tricks you’ll need in the new season.

What are Faelights?

Faelights are little circles that are on the map. They are in the river and around your home base. They spawn early on in the game, and you can place a ward in them to grant a lot of vision for your team. Depending on the game state, you’ll want to prioritise putting wards in these bushes, especially control wards to grant vision for your team, and deny enemy vision.

Faelights Map

Hovering over a Faelight shows you how much vision it will grant, and by placing a ward in the bush, the vision will then be granted. Faelights are highlighed on the mini map by little dots.

Faelights are for everyone, and everyone should be capitalising on them when they can. Just because it’s the “Supports Job” or the job of Janna and Nami to ward, it doesn’t mean other roles shouldn’t be using them!

When to Ward Faelights

When to ward the Faelights really depends on the current game state. Generally speaking, you don’t want to ward it too early, as jungle routes in the new seasons are changed, so where you would want to place an early ward, you kinda want to delay it a bit so you can spot the enemy Jungler.

Throughout this section, we will be referring to both control wards and normal trinkets, so you need to place either of them throughout the game.

Early Game

A good time to ward one of these in the early game (as a bot laner or top laner) is about 15-25 before the scuttle crab spawns, as this gives you enough time to spot the enemy Jungler leave their jungle, and enough time to see them before they take the scuttle crab. This is ideal as you’ll provide a lot of information for your team.

For side laners, you’ll most likely always have this warded, or it will be your default ward in the laning phase, and it could provide a lot of information for your team. When you’re pushing or winning the lane, you may want to place a control ward in this bush; however, if you’re losing, you need to only ward it with a normal ward, as the enemy will just destroy the control ward and you’ll waste 70 gold.

Faelights early game

To be honest, you will not need to ward the ones near the objectives early on, unless you’re playing against a champion who has a steal like Twitch or Shaco. Warding here versus these champions is good, as they will need to go invisible just as they get to your lane, and warding here will spot them before they go invisible.

Mid Game / Objective Control

During the mid-game, you’ll want to prioritise having wards in the river and taking the Faelights near the objectives as well. This includes the Faelights in the river bush, and the one near the jungle entrance, as this will cover both flanking points for both pits. However, it is important to note that there are extra Faelight locations, notably around the lanes once your towers have fallen.

It is a smart idea to have your control wards in these bushes, as it will provide more vision, while also denying the enemy vision. Don’t forget to place a control ward in the pit itself to deny vision from the enemy so they cannot see the objective's health. If you’re playing to the objectives on the top side of the map, such as the Rift Herald, Baron or Top Towers, then you’ll want to take the Faelights on the top side of the map to prevent flanks or opportunities for the enemy to steal them.

However, it is important to note that there are extra Faelight locations, notably around the lanes once your towers have fallen.

Late Game

Similarly to the mid-game, you’ll want to have the objectives and the river warded if you’re trying to take any of the objectives. I wouldn’t advise placing wards on the Faelights near the enemy's base, as they grant vision in the jungle; however, it could be a good place for a control ward if you’re sieging to deny vision over the wall.

However, if you’re on the losing team, warding here could be a good option as it grants vision in the jungle and could provide information for your team if the enemy is setting up a bait, or if they are in fact retreating to an objective.

General Tips and Tricks

Now lets discuss some tips and tricks to help you while playing LoL.

  • Use the Faelights instead of face-checking objectives. They will help you avoid getting ambushed or killed by the enemy!
  • As a Support, while you should prioritise warding, do not go alone as you’ll be an easy target for the enemy. Wait for your team to help you.
  • Only place a control ward in your lane (top and bot lane) if you’re constantly pushing or winning the lane, as the enemy will just destroy it, and you’ll waste 70 gold.
  • If you’ve recalled and running to the dragon, placing a yellow ward in the one Faelight near your base could be a good option to scout for vision in case the enemy is setting up a flank.

Final Thoughts

And that about sums up our article on how to use the new Faelights in LoL. As you can tell, they’re pretty straightforward and very strong right now. They’re a great little vision tool, and I would highly advise that you focus on placing your wards on them whenever you can.
