How to Play

Zilean is a poke mage who controls the lane with his Q. Focus on farming while placing bombs on enemy champions whenever they step forward for CS. Avoid wasting mana early, as repeated bombs can quickly drain your mana without having your first item.

Your E helps you escape ganks or chase down enemies. You can play way more aggressively once level 6, as you can revive yourself. Even if you do fall behind in lane, you will still be useful, as getting 1 good ultimate off on a key unit can be game-changing.

Runes Explained

For Zilean's runes, we want a mix of damage and defensive stats. Magic Penetration Marks help increase the damage of your bombs, allowing you to deal more damage against tankier champions and enemies who build Magic Resist.

Flat Ability Power Quintessences provide a strong boost to your overall damage and make your abilities more threatening throughout the game. Armor Seals and Magic Resist Glyphs can be used for extra defenses, helping you survive the laning phase and team fights.

Masteries Explained

While playing Zilean, you want to stay at a safe distance and let your bombs do the work. To make his abilities as effective as possible, we want to put the majority of our points into the Offense tree for the Cooldown Reduction, Ability Power, and Magic Penetration, allowing you to cast more often and deal more damage.

Utility is a great secondary tree, providing extra Movement Speed and Mana Regeneration to help you stay active around the map and keep using your abilities during the laning phase.
