How to Play

Your goal while playing Volibear in the Top Lane is to play safely until you reach level 3, as you'll often lose 1v1s, especially against strong duelling Top Laners like Fiora, Darius, or Tryndamere. Play safe until you hit this level, then you can start playing aggressively. Aim to keep the minion wave closer to your side of the map when you can, as this gives you increased all-in potential with your Q, and it will force the enemy to overextend.

Outside the laning phase, your goal is to apply pressure across the map by constantly split-pushing and pressuring towers. Since Volibear is strongest with multiple items, look to fight whoever tries to stop you from splitting. If you’ve taken the objectives around the map, look to group with your team. Focus the enemy squishies who you can kill fast with your Q, E and Ultimate

Runes Explained

For Volibear Runes, your best bet is to take AD Marks, as Volibear is an AD champion and going for these Runes will help you last-hit minions, and it will increase your damage output while trading. In the Top Lane, you will face a variety of champions, including tanks and damage dealers. Taking Armor Seals is pretty important on most Top Laners for this reason. Finally, Magic Resistance is a good option versus AP champions in the Top Lane, and when you start grouping, the extra MR will help versus AP Mid Laners

AD Quints are a good option for Volibear because they give you flat AD, which is going to help you while trading.

Masteries Explained

For Volibear Masteries, you should go 21-9-0, as this gives you the best chance in lane. Volibear is an AD bruiser champion, so you need to get kills and play aggressively, and this page lets you do that. Make sure you opt for Masteries that increase your damage output and make trading more favourable.

You should go for the Defense Tree second, as it enhances your protection in lane and makes trading less risky for you. The additional defensive stats will protect you, increase your sustain in lane and make it harder for the enemy Top Laner to kill you.
