Overview
Changes for Classic
- Shen's Passive Ki Strike, every 9 seconds, Shen's next basic attack restores Energy and deals additional damage.
- Shen's Feint (W) grants himself a shield. While this ability is active, his attacks reduce Ki Strike's cooldown
How to Play
Shen is a safe, lane-dominant tank who excels at winning trades through constant Vorpal Blade (Q) poke and sustaining through its healing effect. Spam Q whenever it's available to chip away at your opponent while keeping yourself healthy in the lane. Look for short trades with Feint (W) to absorb damage before backing off and repeating the process.
Once you unlock Shadow Dash (E), you can punish enemies who overextend or set up easy ganks for your jungler. Keep an eye on the minimap after level 6, as Stand United (R) can completely turn fights across the map. Shen isn't about hard carrying through damage; he wins games by bullying the lane, protecting teammates, and creating game-changing plays with his global ultimate.
Runes Explained
Shen's damage comes primarily from sustained trades rather than burst, so Magic Penetration Marks help increase the damage from Vorpal Blade. Armour Seals are essential for surviving the early game against auto-attacking champions, while Magic Resist Glyphs provide the magic resistance you'll need once teamfights begin.
For Quintessences, Armour is the strongest all-around choice, giving Shen extra durability in lane and making him much harder to force out before he can impact the map with Stand United.
Masteries Explained
Shen's role is to absorb damage, protect his teammates, and control fights with his crowd control and global presence. Maxing out the Defence tree gives him the bonus armour, magic resist, health, and damage reduction needed to survive in the front line and stay effective throughout extended fights.
While Shen isn't picked for his raw damage, investing the remaining points into the Offense tree grants Ability Power and Magic Penetration, increasing the damage of Vorpal Blade and helping him win trades more consistently during the laning phase.
