How to Play
Poppy needs gold to become threatening, so focus on clearing your camps and keeping enough health and mana for nearby ganks. Work towards Spirit of the Ancient Golem and look for enemies who have pushed forward, especially when your laner can help you get into range. Use W to approach, then find an E angle that pushes your target into a wall before following up with Q. Avoid spending too long waiting for a gank, as falling behind on farm will delay your damage items.
Once you reach level 6, your ultimate gives you more freedom to get onto important targets. You can mark an enemy with limited damage and crowd control, then attack their carry while the rest of the team cannot affect you. The marked enemy can still hurt and disable you, so consider who you choose. Turn successful ganks into objectives with your teammates, and avoid chasing so far that you become stranded when your ultimate ends.
Runes Explained
Attack Damage Marks give your early clears more damage and make your attacks and Q stronger during ganks. Pair these with Attack Damage Quintessences to get more value from the short window when an enemy is stunned against a wall. Both choices help before you have enough gold for your main damage items.
Armor Seals reduce the physical damage you take from jungle monsters, leaving you healthier when you arrive at a lane. Your Scaling Magic Resist Glyphs become stronger as you level, providing more protection against enemy spellcasters as the game develops.
Masteries Explained
This setup uses 21 points in Defense to help you manage the early jungle and survive when you commit to a target. The additional health, armour and damage reduction make clearing less punishing. Your jungle masteries also deal damage back to attacking monsters and provide extra gold when you use Smite, helping you build towards your items.
The remaining nine points go into Offense. Fury adds attack speed, while Deadliness increases your attack damage as you level. Weapon Expertise gives your physical attacks armour penetration, helping them deal damage against armoured enemies. These points support your clearing and fighting while the defensive tree provides most of your survivability.
