Overview
Changes for Classic
Barrel Roll (Q) does full damage no matter what time it is on the ground
Drunken Rage (W) last for a long time
How to Play
Gragas has a strong laning phase thanks to his passive, allowing him to take favorable trades throughout the lane.
Use your Q to poke and zone enemies away from the farm, but avoid wasting mana early. At level 3 you have a decent trading potential with your E to engage. Play around cooldowns and don't over-commit before level 6.
Once you unlock your ultimate, you become a strong roamer and can easily set up kills for your team while also having the burst to kill your own laner.
Runes Explained
To maximize
Gragas' burst damage, you'll want to focus on Magic Penetration and Ability Power in your rune setup. Take Magic Penetration Marks to increase the damage of your abilities against enemy champions, and Ability Power Quintessences to further boost your burst potential.
Since
Gragas is a melee champion, defensive runes are also valuable during the laning phase. Armor Seals help reduce damage from AD champions and minions, while Magic Resist Glyphs provide extra protection against AP damage, making it easier to survive until you can unleash your full combo.
Masteries Explained
When playing
Gragas, you should prioritize the Offense tree to maximize his burst damage. The additional Ability Power, Magic Penetration, and Cooldown Reduction all enhance his poke and make his explosive combos even more threatening. For your secondary tree,
Utility is the best choice. The reduced Summoner Spell cooldowns are especially valuable, as Flash is a key part of many of
Gragas' engages and combo plays. The bonus Mana Regeneration also helps sustain his spell usage throughout the laning phase.
