How to Play

Garen excels at short trades, using your Q to silence your opponent before following up with your E, then back away and let your passive regeneration recover any damage taken.

Avoid extended fights against champions with strong sustain or crowd control early on, and if you do get ganked, remember your Q gives you a burst of movement speed. Farming is important, but don't be afraid to punish enemies every time they walk up for CS. Once level 6 arrives, your ultimate gives you way more kill pressure and does insane damage against anyone below half health.

Runes Explained

For Garen's runes, you'll want to prioritize Attack Damage and Resistances. Take Attack Damage Marks and Attack Damage Quintessences to increase your damage. For your defensive runes, choose Armor Seals to reduce damage from AD champions , and Magic Resist Glyphs to provide protection against AP damage throughout the game.

Masteries Explained

When playing Garen, you should prioritize the Offense tree, as he makes excellent use of its bonuses. The additional Attack Damage, Armor Penetration, and increased damage to champions all help with his ability to trade effectively and finish off enemies.

For your secondary tree, Defense is the ideal choice. It provides bonus Health, Armor, Magic Resist, and other defensive bonuses, making Garen even tougher to bring down while allowing him to stay in fights longer.
