How to Play

Akali is relatively weak in the early game, so you need to focus on surviving until you get level 6. Up until then, limit trading with the enemy and focus on farming. Once you’re level 6, you can start to play slightly more aggressively and look for aggressive plays. Get the enemy low with very short trades: utilising your Q and E and then all-in with your Ultimate after you’ve got them low enough.

The Mid-game is where Akali really shines. She should look to rotate around the map, make aggressive plays, and take down squishy champions. Make sure you activate your DFG at the start of the fight to deal extra damage. Just look to move around the map, pick up CS and execute squishy targets.

Runes Explained

Akali is an AP assassin, and as such, we will be taking Runes that increase her damage output and also give her defensive stats. Magic pen is crucial on AP champions in LoL Classic, so we will take Magic Pen Marks. Akali is very squishy and easy to poke down, so we will take Armor Seals and MR Glyphs to protect her from poke from enemy AP and AD champions.

For Quints, we will take AP, as it gives her 15 extra AP, which will help her throughout the game. The extra AP will help her clear waves, push and poke the enemy down.

Masteries Explained

Akali is one of the few champions in League of Legends Classic that doesn’t rely on mana. So while we are going 21 in the Offense tree, we ignore anything that gives her mana regeneration. The Offense tree gives her a variety of bonuses such as AP, magic pen and early cooldown reduction, which is going to help her when trading with the enemy. These work well with Akali’s kit and will make her a bigger threat throughout the game.

You should take the Defense tree as your second option, as Akali is very vulnerable to poke during the laning phase, as she has low range. Furthermore, if you get constantly bullied pre-6, you’re going to either fall behind, have to sacrifice XP, or need to recall. Your best bet is to get extra health, armour, and magic resist to help you survive the early laning phase.
