Overview
Changes for Classic
- The abilities are completely different. Read the descriptions.
- Blood Well (P) has a revive component.
How to Play
During the laning phase, your goal is to gain an early lead by skirmishing with the enemy frequently and going for those aggressive all-in plays around Ignite. During the laning phase, keep the wave closer to your side of the map, as it will enable you to go for aggressive all-in plays when the enemy walks up to farm. Pre-6, you’re actually easy to kill, so having more space in lane will protect you.
Once you hit level 7 and have your Ultimate, Ignite, and key components, you should look to dominate your lane opponent and get a kill. If you’re far ahead of your lane opponent, keep pushing the minion wave to take an early tower and open up the map. Outside of the laning phase, look to split push and apply pressure when you can. Be prepared to fight whoever tries to counter you.
Runes Explained
As an AD Champion, you should take AD marks to increase your damage output while trading with the enemy. It will also make last-hitting minions easier too! Armor Seals are standard on many champions in League because they give you additional defensive stats to help protect you from incoming damage from the enemy. You should finish off your standard Rune Page with MR Glyphs as it will give you magic resistance to protect you from AP Top laners.
For your Quints, Attack Damage Quints are your best option as it gives you raw damage which will be very helpful in trading.
Masteries Explained
There are 2 page options for Aatrox. The first is 21 points in the Offense Tree and 9 points in the Defense Tree. As Aatrox is a duelist who wants to get a lead, taking the 21 points in the Offence Tree makes it easier for him to get kills during the laning phase and start his snowball. You will prioritise taking the damage Masteries that increase your kill pressure. The 9 points in the Defense Tree just give Aatrox extra protection in lane so he doesn’t die so quickly while trading.
If you want, you can also go 9 points in the Offense Tree and 21 points in the Defense Tree instead. This will make surviving the laning phase easier and make him much tankier throughout the game. If you take the Offense Tree as your main Tree, then your kill pressure and trading power will be higher, whereas the Defence Tree will make it easier for you to survive lane
