Keep the minion wave closer to your side of the map to reduce his all-in potential and limit his usage of both his E and Ultimate.

Invest in early armor or magic pen to help you lane against him. Not getting any of it will make it impossible for you to kill him.

If playing a ranged champion, try to harass and bully him down with basic attacks and abilities to gain an early health lead.

Skarner will look to flank in team fights with his E. Ward the flanks to make it easier for you to escape him before he comes charging at you.

Avoid fighting in the jungle, around objectives or near the Baron. You need to be spaced out so he cannot land his Ultimate on multiple champions at once.

Invest in armor and magic penetration items. Skarner will be building tank items and you will be unable to kill him if you do not buy these items.

His trading power increases at level 4, as he will have multiple points in his Q and access to all his basic abilities.

Of course, his second major power spike is at level 6 when he unlocks his Ultimate. His trading power and kill pressure intensify at this stage of the game.

After he has completed his first item, his trading power intensifies. Be on the lookout for all-ins, and avoid committing to trades unless you can win them.
