His kit is good at taking down immobile and squishy champions who are overextended around the map. Locke can easily snowball by getting a kill or two.
Locke’s 1v1 potential is very high. He can solo kill most champions if he gets time to make use of his Passive and
Q in a fight.
He is really good at teamfighting in tight areas of the map, as his Ultimate and
Q can deal a lot of damage to multiple enemies at once.
He is a melee champion, so he can get bullied down by champions with long range and who can play safely at the same time. It might be difficult for him to play aggressively when he is low on HP.
To be good at Locke, you need to be aggressive. If you have a passive playstyle in general, Locke will not be the champion for you.
Proper warding by the enemy team can make it really hard for Locke to get roams off and help his allies. This will severely reduce his ability to pick up kills elsewhere on the map.
0 - 15 min
Play safely in the early game. You need time to come online, and if you fall behind, you will struggle to lane, and you will delay your first major power spike.
Locke is a strong roaming champion. If your allies are strong, look to roam frequently to get extra kills and snowball your lead.
Try to keep the minion wave closer to your side in the very early game. This could give you the opportunity to all-in on the enemy.
15 - 25 min
During the mid-game, look to assassinate targets that are moving around the rift alone. You can capitalise on your strong Ultimate to get them down and assassinate them.
After your Support + ADC have destroyed the first tower, move to a side lane and apply pressure elsewhere on the map.
Once you have completed multiple items, look to group with your team and capitalise on your strong team fighting Ultimate to win mid-game fights.
25+ min
Play around your key power spikes (Ultimate cooldown, item cooldowns, and levels) during the late game to ensure you come out ahead of your opponents.
Avoid walking around Summoners' Rift alone if you do not know where the enemy is as they could be setting up an ambush, which could result in your death and the enemy getting the Baron or ending the game.
Although if you’re strong, you could set up an ambush on the enemy team and try to take down someone squishy who is walking around the map alone, such as the enemy Support or ADC and then take the Baron afterwards.
Locke’s early-game strength really depends on the matchup he's facing. If he is fighting someone whom he can keep fighting, then he should be strong. Otherwise, he will need some time to come online.
Locke’s level 6 power spike offers him a ton of additional damage and kill pressure. He should actively look to make plays and get kills with his Ultimate.
When Locke has completed his first component item, his damage output will intensify. This, mixed with a few points in his
Q, will make him much stronger.
At level 9, Locke will max out his
Q. When his
Q is maxed out, his damage output and all-in will significantly increase, and he can deal considerable damage and clear waves very quickly.
At level 11, Locke will put his second point in his Ultimate. This will increase the damage output on his
R and make him a bigger threat in fights.
During the mid-game is really where Locke can pop off, and he starts to shine. He will have multiple items completed, lots of abilities available to him, and he can capitalise on his mid-game strength.
At level 16, Locke will put the final point in his Ultimate. In team fights, his Ultimate will deal tons of damage to enemies, especially if they’re grouped together.
He will deal considerable damage to enemies in team fights in the late game. Teams should be grouped at this stage of the game, and as Locke has AOE abilities, he will deal a lot of damage and give his team the best chances of winning a fight.
As an assassin, Locke could struggle and get locked down in late-game team fights, so make sure you’re playing around your
W effectively, using fog of war and lack of vision to your advantage to win late-game team fights.
