She absolutely decimates melee matchups, especially the ones who forget or are unable to get out of her Ultimate R. This ability also allows her to impact a team fight when there are multiple divers on the enemy team.
Her E allows her to set up ganks for her Jungler with ease. The usage of this ability with her Ultimate R can allow her to chunk an enemy with ease, as the enemy won’t be able to escape the ult radius quickly.
Her Passive allows her to sustain off the damage she deals. This is very beneficial when she is using her Ultimate R amidst a group of enemy champions. She will practically be unkillable and the enemy will have to decide whether to flee or fight.
Her Ultimate R won’t go through, or do a lot of damage if she is displaced or polymorphed when she initiates the Ultimate R. This can be game-changing for the enemy team and will allow the enemy to easily win a fight.
She is quite weak against ranged carries, especially if the carry has some form of dash or range advantage over her, as it will allow them to easily dodge her E.
Buying early Grievous wounds against her can allow her enemies to win a lot of early game fights against her. This advantage will carry over to the late game where she won’t be able to heal up a lot and will be easier to take down if she decides to all-in the enemy.

Try your hardest to earn as much gold as possible. The more gold Illaoi earns, the harder she will be to deal with in the later parts of the laning phase/ game.
Once you’re level 6, you can look for an all-in or go for a kill. Try to get them low before doing so though.
Poke the enemy as often as possible with your E and Q. If you can get them low and play around your Tentacle placements, your ability to get a kill in lane will increase.

During the mid-game, split push and apply pressure to the edges of the map while your team applies pressure elsewhere.
Illaoi is very strong in team fights, so it’s recommended that you find opportunities to group with your team. In particular, you are good around objectives and inside the jungle.
Delay team fights for as long as possible. This will provide time for your Passive to kick in and for you to get some tentacles down.

Stick with your team in the later stages of the game. Avoid moving too far away from them.
Look for picks with your E in the late game. Landing an E with the follow-up damage from your team could result in a kill or a favourable fight.
Continue to delay team fights when possible so you can get your Passive tentacles down.
level 3 is a power spike as Illaoi gets access to all her abilities and can now go for short burst trades against her laner. It is effortless for her to use the lane brushes and whittle down enemies even before they can react.
Level 6 is a significant power spike. She can now take on the entire enemy team, especially if they happen to be melee-ranged in nature. It will also bolster her all-in potential significantly.
Getting her first item will give her a much-needed boost during duels. She will survive longer in fights while simultaneously dealing more damage to enemies.
Illaoi is an excellent split pusher. She can take on multiple people on her own due to her tentacles and Ultimate R. At one point, the enemy team will have to send in more than two people to deal with her.
Illaoi is also good in team fights as her Ultimate R prevents the enemy from getting close to her or her team. She also dishes out a lot of damage which can easily wipe out a team if they are not careful.
Once she gets two points in her Ultimate R, she will dish out a ton of damage during team fights. Enemies won't be able to do much except maintain distance from her at all times. Illaoi can also use the fog of war to set up death brushes.
At level 16, Illaoi will be able to put three points in her Ultimate R. This will make her really strong, and she will quickly turn the tide of a fight with a well-timed Ultimate R.
Illaoi is really good in fights as she will be dealing a lot of damage and can easily peel for her allies. She can even poke out enemies who get too close to her, making a full-on team fight unfair for the enemy team.
Illaoi will have multiple items during this stage of this game, and she will be highly tanky. This will not only let her deal a lot of damage but will also be able to absorb a lot of damage in return. In addition, she can easily sustain herself due to her Ultimate R.
