Overview

When jumping into Bunnyville for the first time, you'll probably find yourself needing a little help warming to the deceptively difficult top-down roguelite known as Sephiria. In this guide, we'll go over 6 tips we think all beginners need to know before they hop in!

Understanding Attack Timing

Right off the bat it's important to mention that when first stepping into Sephiria, you'll soon find out that this game is HARD. It won't take long before you're failing runs and needing to upgrade your bunny to delve further into the meat and potatoes of the game.

This can all be made just a little easier if you understand timing. Almost every single enemy in the game will display an attack preview of where you should not be when they unleash their assault. This window is extremely short, but in most cases you'll find yourself having to decipher 5 of them at once during a level. It can be... A lot to process.

Luckily for you, there's a few options on how to exploit this telegraph. Depending on your loadout in the game, you can try one of the following methods:

Parry - Hit your block (if applicable) right as the attack lands to parry it entirely.

Dodge - Hit your dash key towards the attack (or out of range) to negate all of the damage dealt.

Summons - If using Summons, they can be used to draw aggro from enemies, forcing them to burn an attack. This opens a pretty sweet attack window for you to take advantage of.

Use The Greatsword

There's a good few weapons to use in Sephiria, but by far one of the earliest and easiest to learn has to be the Greatsword. While the default short sword is fast, fun, and has the ability to block/parry attacks, it can sometimes feel slightly difficult to get the hang of as you adapt to the high-intensity combat encounters.

The bold Greatsword however feels like a major step up in strength. It has a wide swing radius, and is surprisingly quick for a weapon which when found in most games, is usually pretty slow...

It also has a special attack called Whirlwind which replaces the typical block/parry move you get on your starter sword, but in our experience it wasn't really worth focusing on right away without any boosts to your MP.

That said, if large swings are your thing, you can obtain this weapon extremely early in the game, typically found after your first true run. Keep an eye out for the mission, and tick it off to obtain this beast.

Understanding Your MP Bar

This is a short and sweet tip, but one you need to be aware of from the jump. MP in this chaotic roguelite is the core of almost all mystical abilities you'll use. It's spent when you block, when using special abilities, and various other expenditure methods.

Early on, it's recommended that you avoid spamming said abilities until you have some permanent upgrades to either capacity, or methods of recharging it during combat. Relying on a resource that's severely limited can be an easy way to shoot yourself in the (rabbit) foot, ending said run on the spot.

Break Open (Mostly) Everything

When you first dive into Sephiria 1.0, by far one of the most difficult issues you'll run into is healing. While there aren't too many ways to bypass this until you naturally upgrade your stats, there is one trick you can keep in mind.

Around each level are destructible chests that can be broken open for a variety of loot. This can be simple things like gold, or the more valuable potions.

Potions can be pretty hard to come across, so when you're about to move on to the next room in your immediate area, be sure to first make a check for nearby odds & sods that can assist you in keeping your strength up.

Pick A Build Early

When starting a new run for the day (or run 58) it's best to pick a theme and stick to it early on. Sephiria has tons of options when it comes to thematic playstyles, elemental or not. Going with an idea from the jump will give you a great idea of how you want to, and how you'll have to play.

A few options include summoner builds which are great for aggro tanking, or elemental options like lightning and fire for more DOT focused playstyles. Personally for us, it's really difficult to commit to just one, so be sure to get creative.

Playing into this point, be sure to visit the costume selection in the main hub from the get-go. This isn't just a vanity outfitter, it's pretty much a class selection menu that will help you get a boost in the avenues you want for your runs.

There's a solid amount to start with, and even more to discover. Make sure not to pass this feature up before playing your first expedition in Bunnyville!

Tablets Explained

Lastly, we want to piggyback off of the prior point with buildcrafting. Tablets are an integral part of making builds in Sephiria, but you may find them to be rather confusing when starting for the first time.

Simply put: Tablets are items that, when slotted in your backpack, affect nearby items in either positive or negative ways. You may find that depending on the item-dictated slot formation, placing an item to the left-most slot actually lowers the level of it, nerfing your gameplay altogether.

Or, you might find that by simply placing an item above the Tablet, your item gets a +3 BUFF to the overall level, helping you put together a foe crushing build in no time!

If you're confused on where an item needs to go in order to receive the potential benefits, you can get a preview by simply hovering over the Tablet in your backpack. Be sure to figure out this mechanic early, as it's a super fast way to scale up your damage output!

Conclusion

With the provided tips in mind, hopefully you have a slightly easier time saving the beautiful world of Bunnyville in the newly released Sephiria 1.0! If this guide helped you out, be sure to keep up to date with all things Mobalytics for more Guides, News, Reviews & More!
