Minecraft Dungeons 2 is finally here, but don't expect it to be a total cakewalk, especially if you're a new player. The sequel is much more chaotic, larger, and deadlier than the original. For this reason, it's important you know how to survive both the Overworld, and also the Sift. Today we'll be going over 5 things you need to know, before beginning your adventures.
Overview
Get Some Healing Fast
Minecraft Dungeons 2 can be quite difficult starting out. This is mainly because obviously, until you get your build together you won't know how to properly exploit enemy weaknesses.
There is however one tip you can utilize when starting out that will help you stay alive longer as you get your bearings. The Healing Smite enchantment is an extremely powerful tool aiding you in overall survivability, due to the strong regeneration property it holds. All you need to do is kill an enemy, and it will have a base chance of 20% to spawn a regeneration well, which almost always heals you to full.
If you can get your hands on it early, it's an enchantment that in my case I ran throughout the entire game, and even at endgame find it tough to play without. You can also combine it with artefacts such as the Picnic Basket, which when used will spawn food you can eat for instant health.

Don't Forget To Smith
On the subject of staying alive, it's important to talk about the smithing merchant found in towns. This is a handy mechanic designed to improve the overall quality of your items via two options. The first one, is to increase the overall item power. This will run you a small amount of Emeralds, and can be seen as the general power increase button for all items. It is however dependant on your overall level, so you'll need to keep checking back for more upgrades.
The second option is to re-roll the actual ability on the item. It's important to note that this isn't the enchantment, as that's an entirely different feature. Think of abilities as less in-depth buffs to the item such as crit boosts, overall damage increases, and more.
When selecting the right ability for your build, pay attention to your current playstyle for the easiest decision making. Are you critting a lot? Run crit bonuses. Going for fast attacks and want to hit a little harder with more consistency? Go for a raw damage boost to all melee.

By combining both of these features together, you can tailor gear to your own specific needs. Early on in the game you don't need to focus on both aspects here, but raising item power is absolutely something you should be doing for items you've grown attached to. Failing to do so will result in them falling behind, which will often result in you failing to stay alive.
Fight Respawnable Bosses
As you progress through Dungeons 2 you might notice a cool new feature added to the open world. All defeated bosses in the game can now be respawned via totems, allowing you to re-fight them. This is especially handy when you realize that most of if not all of these bosses have a dedicated item reward tied to them provided you fight them this way.
In this gameplay here you can see I choose to re-fight a boss, and the game shows me that I'll be rewarded with the venomous daggers. Had I known about this earlier in my time with the game, gearing up and piecing a build together would've been all the more satisfying. There's some really cool item discoveries to be made this way, allowing for a lot of revising as you hit a progression wall during the story.

If you're confused about the locations of bosses that can be fought again, make sure you check your map, as they're highlighted for you to see. If you're still confused, check out our interactive map guide here for all of the locations.
Stop Hoarding Materials
During your time with Dungeons 2 you might find it tempting to hold on to all of the emeralds and echo shards you come across. While this can be beneficial in some scenarios like the talisman that gives you more damage based on held emeralds, there's one key factor to be aware of.
It's not hard to gain currency in Dungeons 2 with an abundance of methods at your disposal to farm. So, intentionally stunting your growth as you try to work your way through the story probably isn't the best choice. Furthermore, you'll find quite literally hundreds of items during your journey in the Overworld and Sift, so waiting for that perfect piece of loot to show up at a merchant simply just is not worth it.
Instead put your focus on spending emeralds to level up gear at the smithy, and purchasing good rolled items at the general merchant if you find yourself down on your luck inbetween missions.

Farm Enchantments Early
Lastly, let's go over enchantments. By now you've probably encountered at least one of these in your game. They can be taken to the enchanter merchant in almost any town, and applied to their corresponding item type. What you might not know however, is that enchantments can actually be farmed, allowing you to put together a build much faster.
By finishing either sift activities, or dungeons around the world, you'll receive enchantment books which as you already know, can be used at the enchanter. You don't necessarily need to do this super early on, but in my own experience playing, having some of the better enchantments before you hit a wall is the best method for progressing.

You can find enchants for mobbing, healing, movement, and so much more. One other cool detail about enchants in Dungeons 2 is that some enchants such as roll count boosters actually stack, making for some very interesting combos. Now that you know all of this, go out there and get yourself some enchantments early, you'll thank me later.
