Blacksmithing In-Depth Breakdown - Minecraft Dungeons 2

Blacksmithing in Minecraft Dungeons 2 is a mechanic designed to keep weapons strong, and tailor them to the personal needs of your build. In this guide we'll go over the basics of it, and some of the ways you can use it to help shape your playstyle.

To begin smithing, head to any town and look for the anvil icon on the minimap. This is where you'll be able to gain access to the Blacksmith vendor, provided you're further enough into the game by this point.

Once you open the menu, you'll get a general overview on the left of all items in your inventory, primarily the equipped ones. You'll also get information on the currentlly selected effect of the item. In our case, it's "Melee attacks deal 10% more damage"

Before you actually get smithing, keep in mind that the level of the merchant can be increased with Echo Shards. Upgrading the merchant is something that ultimately you should be doing, to get the absolute most utility out of this vendor (and others) in the game.

Echo Shards can be found through various methods in the open world, but the best acquisition method is via The Sift, a randomly spawned encounter in the overworld which will teleport you into a randomized encounter. Clearing it will reward you with a variety of Echo Shards. The same activity can also reward you with a variety of enchanting books, which will be needed for this feature.

Smithing gives you two main choices when interacting with one of the items in your inventory. The first one, is to increase the overall item power. This will run you a small amount of Emeralds, and can be seen as the general power increase button for all items.

The second option is to re-roll the actual ability on the item. It's important to note that this isn't the enchantment, as that's an entirely different feature. If you want to learn more on that, you can find out enchanting guide here.

Instead, think of abilities as less in-depth buffs to the item such as crit boosts, overall damage increases, and more. When selecting the right ability for your build, pay attention to your current playstyle for the easiest decision making. Are you critting a lot? Run crit bonuses. Going for fast attacks and want to hit a little harder with more consistency? Go for a raw damage boost to all melee.
