Escaping in Halloween: The Game is the ultimate end goal for all survivors, but it's not as simple as it may seem. In this guide we're going to breakdown the rules of survival in Haddonfield, and also go over some of the main ways you can escape from the wrath of Michael Myers himself.
Overview
Your Goal As Survivor
Unlike other survival horror games, your goal when starting a new run in Halloween isn't to just B-Line to the exit. The entire time you're playing, your goal is to score points against Michael, who will be looking to do the very same thing to you.
Take note of the top of your screen, where you'll see 3 distinct pieces of information you'll want to be aware of.
- The first one on the left are your key residents. These are the NPCs you should make your focus to escape Haddonfield, as you get points for doing so.

- Next in the middle, are your low priority residents. You'll get less for saving these people, but it's still important to look out for them. Not only can they help you survive longer, but they also act as a tasty distraction for Michael himself.

- Finally, the right-most blips are your real life squadmates. Their survival is going to remain as perhaps the most important goal, as they're simply put the smartest people you'll have in your game.

Each time you rescue any of the above residents (yes, yourself included) you'll gain an amount of points which contribute to your overall score at the end of the match. The catch here is that if Michael is able to kill any of the residents shown above, he'll get the points instead. It's a mean mechanic, meant to avoid players grouping up from the get-go.
For your best chances at survival, you'll need to coordinate with your team who will search for exits, and who will gather up residents to eventually bring to said exits. Failing to do so will result in watching as Michael mercilessly takes out the entire neighbourhood. Not ideal if you're looking to win...
Methods Of Escaping
Now that you know what your actual goal is, lets go over the many methods of escaping during a game of Halloween. It's up to you which one you pick, but be aware that you can't simply pick just one escape if you want to rescue every resident. Escapes have limits, meaning you should factor this in to your plan before executing it.
Method 1: The Cellar
For this escape route, you'll be searching near the sides of houses, or in some cases around the back for what looks like a covered up basement entrance. Once discovered, it will remain pinged on your map at all times so you never lose it.
In some cases you may struggle to find one in your lobby, and other times there can be 2 of them right in front of you. This is because basement spawns much like other methods of escaping are randomized per session.

Now that you've found it, there are some things to know about actually opening it. The main thing to keep in mind is that depending on which one it is, you'll need a slightly different way of opening it. If it's covered in vines, you'll need to hold interact on the front of it to clear them away before it can be opened.
If it's boarded up with planks, you must take a melee weapon and break away the boards first before opening it. This can also be done by throwing your weapon at it in the event that the hitbox is acting funny.
Once done, you'll need to find either a pair of Bolt Cutters or a Padlock Key somewhere in the map, and use them to unlock the Cellar. Once done, one final minigame will be required to actually open the doors, which will then let any resident escape through it.

Method 2: Sedan (The Car)
Perhaps one of the trickiest escapes to find is the car, but it can be made a whole lot easier with a simple trick: search for the car with the hood opened up.
Once you find the car, you'll be asked to find 3 distinct items in order to repair it, which will then allow you to use it to escape Haddonfield. The items you'll need to find are:
- Fuel Can (Used at the back side of the car)
- Repair Kit (Used on the hood of the car to repair)
- Sedan Keys (Used to turn on the car)
The locations for each of the required items much like the car are randomized in each map, but overall it's important to note that the repair kit and keys can be found in small drawers within houses around the various maps.
Once the car has been successfully repaired, you simply need to drive it to the marked location on your map, where you'll successfully escape Haddonfield.

Method 3: Police Wagon
Towards the last quarter of the match, you should usually get the option to help residents escape via Police Wagon. This is essentially a large truck that will drive into the center of the map, and all you need to do in order to escape is run to the back of it.
This is a large problem for Michael players. Not only is it guarded by 2 armed police officers, but the escape is also extremely easy to reach for players, with no minigame needed once you get there in order to actually make the escape.

Method 4: Escape Fence
This next method is rather simple, but will require you risking the safety of your fellow residents by basically hugging the edge of the map. Before you can use it to escape however, you'll need to find two items hidden in the map. The items needed are:
- Fuse
- Escape Key OR Bolt Cutters
These are used to unlock a fence gate somewhere on the outskirts of the map you're currently playing on.
To find the gate, simply make a circle of the map, hugging the outer side until you find the exit. Perks like Survival Intuation may help you shortcut this method, but just remember that this exit is often on the outside of the map. Once you get to it, all you need to do is complete a timed minigame with the key/bolt cutters to unlock the gate, replace the fuse, and you'll then be able to leave through it.

Method 5: Arresting Michael Myers
This is by far the hardest method, and not one you should be looking to attempt with randomly matchmaked players. In order to arrest Michael Myers, you'll first need to have somebody in the game playing as a police officer. It's important to note that Dr. Loomis does count for this, in addition to regular officers.
To begin the arrest, you'll first need to surround Michael with either Loomis or a Cop, until his cuff icon bar fills up, illustrated by the icon floating on him. Once it's filled up, you then just need to down Michael Myers. This can be done by dealing damage to him in any form. It's recommended to have a high Poise stat to make knocking him down much easier, in addition to perks that increase the amount of time he stays downed for once knocked out.
With Michael down on the floor, have the police officer head over to him and HOLD the prompt to begin cuffing him. If done successfully, Michael will be arrested and the game will officially end, ruling a victory in favor of the residents.

Surviving Michael Myers
With all of the methods of escaping at your disposal, one of your friendly residents will inevitably encounter Michael. While there's plenty of ways to avoid falling victim to him, here are some great tips to help you stay alive when he's gunning for you in particular.
Tip 1: Stay In The Light
Michael's most powerful ability is his Shape Jump. It basically allows him to cover a huge amount of distance while being completely invisible to you. This also includes being able to entirely phase through the doors and windows of buildings. There is however a very simple way you can counter it. Michael cannot exit his shape jump while in the light, and also while being seen by a resident.
While he can use special abilities like Reality Tear to bypass these restrictions, it's a long cooldown when used, meaning more often than not you're safe from it. Just, be wary of this regardless.
To use this to your advantage, make sure not to run through dark places when being chased by him. This will allow Michael to appear behind you for an easy grab, most likely leading to your demise. If you're in a building, make sure to flip on any light switches you see to ensure the entire house is lit up. Michael will often look to shut the power off in buildings using either the breaker outside, or his ability. If this happens, get out of there, or your days will sadly be numbered.

Tip 2: Pick Up A Defensive Item
One crucial piece of information to learn early in Halloween is that most of the blue rarity items such as butterfly knives, and pocket knives are actually used for one specific scenario. If you have one in your inventory when Michael grabs you, the game will ask you to rapidly spam X. Doing so will take the item, and plunge it into the killer, instantly freeing you from his grasp.
While you might not always come across them, having at least one of them on you at all times where possible is a fantastic way of staying alive. Some Michael players may try to get around this by simply hacking you to death instead of grabbing, but overall this is a solid way of staying alive if you find yourself in a grab.

Tip 3: Don't Forget Your Perks
Perks are the center of your build in Halloween, but new players may find them easily overlooked or forgotten about. In our time playing, we often didn't realize when a Perk was available to grab during games. This is in part because honestly, the sound cue for receiving a perk card doesn't always come across very well in the heat of the moment, and the icon for it is also tucked away just above your health bar.
Forgetting about your perk selection is one thing, but overlooking them entirely is another. There are many perks to be found in Halloween, with almost all of them slotting into a build somehow. Make sure to not only take in a perk deck that will help your specific character role, but perks that help your team escape successfully too.
For example, in my games I often play as Laurie, who has an inherent boost to Michael's incapacitated time. Matching that with perks that boost this bonus, in addition to perks that raise my poise will make me one of the best residents on my team for keeping Michael at bay. Perks don't just apply to alive players though, because spectators can also complete minigames regularly to supply random perk cards to survivors. It's a nice way to support your team while you wait to be brought back into the fight.
