Core Items and Requirements

  • Sundered Night is a massive boost to the build by allowing us to auto-cast Consecration and giving a massive amount of Aura Skill Ranks and Aura Potency.
  • Other players with Heir of Perdition can steal your 60% damage buff when they kill enemies.
  • Wreath of Auric Laurel allows our Purify to apply a massive 55% damage debuff.
  • Sanctis of Kethamar is the least important Unique, it mainly provides 30% Aura Potency.
    • Can be replaced by moving Aspect of Heavenly Strength to our Amulet and including Aspect of Hale's Salve on our Pants.

To know where to farm all the Uniques you need for the build, make sure to check out the Boss Loot Tables Guide.

Planner Fixes

  • Aura Skills Greater Affix and Masterworking Crit on Sundered Night.
  • Bulwark's Aspect instead of Aspect of Akarat's Blessing
    • Database has it mislabeled as Defensive.
  • Aspect of Concussive Strikes or Aspect of Assistance on Gloves.

Bloodied Affixes to chase:

  • S-Tier:
    • Maximum Life per Killstreak Tier (Armor and Shield)
  • A-Tier:
    • Cooldown Reduction per Killstreak Tier (Armor and Shield) until CDR cap

How it Works

Core Mechanics

The Support Paladin has many ways of becoming a valuable team member, the MVP even.

Auras

By using Sundered Night, Sanctis of Kethamar, Vex, getting + Ranks to Aura Skills and Defiance Potency or Fanaticism Potency tempering affixes. the Support Paladin can massively boost up the value of the Aura Skills. For Defiance Aura this means increased Armor, Resistances and increased Thorns, which leads to the Retribution Thorns Paladin dealing massively more damage.

Skill Ranks from items and runes are bugged currently and giving Defiance AuraRite of Thorns double the benefit. This lets your provide a Rite of Thorns multiplicative Thorns bonus of up to 1600%!

Fanaticism Aura is also getting buffed at the same time, providing more Attack Speed, Critical Strike Chance and Critical Strike Damage.

Damage Debuffs

  • Wreath of Auric Laurel allows Purify to provide a 55% damage debuff.
  • Godslayer Crown not only pulls enemies any time we use Purify or Condemn but it also provides a 40% damage debuff.
  • Consecration, casted manually in the Starter Variant and automatically through Sundered Night on the Endgame Variant, gives a 15% damage debuff.
    • It also gives 15% resource cost reduction.
  • Raheir Ground Slam with Inspiration.
  • Raheir Bastion with Inspiration.
  • Wildbolt Aspect.

Even More Damage

  • Another source of damage is Ohm, which buffs your party's damage by 15%.
    • Alternatively, Thul is used when a Barbarian can provide War Cry.
  • Aspect of Exorcism functions the same as having more damage by Executing non-boss monsters under 15%.
  • Law applies a 15% damage debuff when we Judge enemies with PurifySentence.
    • We can spread Judgement with Judgement Day.

Healing

The Support Paladin provides an immense amount of survivability through healing. Anointing means that 33% of all the healing done is provided to allies.

Our sources of healing are the following:

  • Life per 5 Second Affixes on gear.
  • Consecration based on our Maximum Life, boosted by being up to Rank 13, double dips by healing our allies as well as ourselves.

All of this is boosted by getting Healing Received affixes on our Gear and Paragon Board.

Defenses

  • Our Defiance Aura, with so much Aura potency provides up to 40% Maximum Life.
    • It also can provide around 400% Armor and Resistances.
  • Raheir's Bastion redirects 90% of the damage to him when it's active.
  • Immortality with FortressEntrench.
  • Aldkin's Field of Languish provides 20% Damage Reduction when active.

Tankiness

The Support Paladin is absurdly tanky, not only does it have access to everything mentioned above, but it also has the luxury of stacking Maximum Life, using Defensive Aspects and Defensive Glyphs on the Paragon Board.

A fully geared Support Paladin can have upwards of 3 Million Toughness.

Runes

  • We use Igni + Ohm to provide War Cry
    • We swap Ohm for Thul for 4 Man Tower Pushes as our Barbarian will provide War Cry.
  • We use Cir + Vex to get more Ranks of Defiance Aura, Fanaticism Aura and Consecration.

Frequently Asked Question

What do I change if I'm not supporting a Retribution Thorns Paladin?

  • Change all the Defiance Aura Potency tempers for Fanaticism Aura Potency.
  • Change Rite of Thorns for Rite of Prayer.

Why do some variants use Barricade and others use Entrench?

  • We use Barricade when we need to move around a lot, such as on Infernal Hordes.
  • We use Entrench for content with less mobility where the damage immunity and immortality can be impactful.
    • We purposely leave Fortress at Rank 1 so it has a shorter Duration and we can re-cast it more often.
    • With Resplendence and all 3 Aura Skills we can instantly reset Fortress when it expires.

When should I use Heir of Perdition and Godslayer Crown?

The 60% Damage buff from Heir of Perdition can be stolen by allies whenever they slay an enemy, even if they wear Heir of Perdition themselves, doubling the damage gain. In most pushing content, Heir of Perdition is the best choice, but in Infernal Hordes, where grouping enemies quickly is more important, Godslayer Crown should be used instead. Support Paladin has multiple ways to trigger Godslayer Crown, through various forms of Crowd Control, such as Daze from Purify or the Pull from Condemn.

When using Godslayer Crown you can also use Aspect of Exorcism on your Gloves to execute Non-Boss enemies below 15% Health.
