Build Overview

Fireball builds are a classic staple of ARPGs. While this isn’t necessarily the strongest build in the game, it is one of the most accessible, satisfying, and fun options available.

It really scratches that mage itch: standing back at range, hurling molten balls of fire, and watching enemies melt under heavy damage over time. There is something timelessly satisfying about filling the screen with fire and incinerating everything in your path.

When it comes to gearing, there are a few general rules of thumb to follow.

For defensive gear pieces, like your helmet, chest, and pants, you’ll most likely want to temper All Resistances first. If your resistances are already capped, then look for Armor instead. And if your armor is also capped, then you can move into Max Health.

For offensive modifiers, it’s important to remember that this is a damage over time build, meaning critical strikes will not apply to the majority of your damage. Because of that, you’ll want to avoid Critical Strike Chance and Critical Strike Damage where possible.

Instead, prioritize stats like Fire Damage, Damage, and Damage Over Time multipliers, as these will scale the build much better. We also benefit quite a lot from Attack Speed, making it another strong stat to look for.

Ranks to Pyromancy Skills, Core Skills, and especially Fireball, which benefits from both categories, are also fantastic to get.

For Greater Affixes, your main focus should be anything that improves your overall damage output. You’ll also want a fairly generous amount of Mana per Second, so don’t be afraid to fit that onto gear where possible until you reach a point where you can comfortably sustain your Fireball barrages.

Talismans

For the charm set, we are going with Cauldron. This is the fire-themed set, making it a perfect fit for what we are doing here.

In essence, Cauldron is a ramping damage set that increases our damage output the more we cast, and the faster we cast, Fire spells. It also provides a degree of healing and damage reduction, which is incredibly useful for keeping the build comfortable to play.

This is also why you’ll see a strong emphasis on Attack Speed, as casting faster allows us to reach the higher damage ranges of the Cauldron set bonus more consistently.

For affixes, you’ll want to aim for things like:

  • Ranks to Pyromancy Skills
  • General damage increases
  • Cooldown Reduction
  • Mana Regeneration
  • Resource Cost Reduction

For your Seal, anything that synergizes well with the Cauldron set is a fantastic option. The affix priority remains fairly similar here, with a focus on Attack Speed, damage output, and mana sustain.

With this set, we’ll also try to aim for one Ancestral Unique Charm using the Emberfury unique power. This further increases the damage and size of our Fireballs the more we cast them, which fits perfectly with the build’s overall game plan.

Paragon Board

Generally speaking, there isn’t too much to call out when it comes to the Paragon setup.

Most of the choices here are focused on broadly applicable damage increases, meaning they do not require too many specific conditions to be met. This helps keep the build comfortable, consistent, and easy to play.

The main thing worth noting is the Elemental Summoner legendary node. This incentivizes us to cast Hydra, as doing so can provide a significant damage boost to our Fire spells.

It is also worth clarifying that, despite the name, Frigid Fate is not a Frost-focused node. For this build, it functions as a generic damage increase against Vulnerable enemies, and does not require you to use Frost skills or play around any Frost-specific mechanics.

Mercenary

For our Mercenary, we are using Subo with Scorched Earth.

This is a great fit for the build, as Scorched Earth can provide a significant boost to our damage over time whenever Subo uses Molotov.

For our Reinforcement, we are using Aldkin with Field of Languish. This gives us a reliable source of damage reduction, making it a nice defensive choice that helps keep the build feeling comfortable and safe to play.

How it Plays

To play this build, things should feel pretty intuitive.

Generally speaking, your rotation starts with Inferno. Use this to group enemies together while dealing heavy damage on its own. From there, cast Bathed in Flame Hydra in the center of the Inferno so it can start burning enemies and making them Vulnerable through Aspect of Shredding Blades.

Once everything is grouped and burning, fill the gaps with Fireball. This is your main source of consistent damage and should be cast heavily whenever you have the resources to sustain it.

Flame Shield should be used on cooldown, especially in tougher situations, as it helps keep you alive and gives you more room to keep casting safely.

Teleport is your main mobility tool. Use it to move quickly, reposition, or escape dangerous situations.

Firewall, while on the skill bar, will primarily be triggered automatically through the enchantment. That said, you can still manually cast it while running past enemies, leaving a trail of fire behind you so anything chasing you burns down as it follows.

How it Works

How This Build Works

This build has been kept very simple and straightforward on purpose, but there are a few key interactions worth understanding.

At its core, the build focuses on Burning damage and repeatedly casting Fireball to get the most out of the Cauldron charm set. This is why you’ll see such a heavy emphasis on Damage Over Time through our skill choices, aspects, and gearing.

It is also why we avoid Critical Strike Chance and Critical Strike Damage, as Burning damage does not benefit from these modifiers.

Inferno is one of the most important skills in the build. Not only does it apply a significant amount of Burning damage on its own, but it is also one of the best tools Sorcerer has for pulling enemies together. This groups everything into one place, making them much easier to burn down with your other skills and finally activating Aspect of Armageddon for huge damage.

Once enemies are grouped by Inferno, you’ll cast Hydra into the middle of the pack. With Bathed in Flame Hydra, this allows Hydra to burn the enemies collected by Inferno and also helps apply Vulnerable through our aspect setup. Between Inferno and Hydra alone, most low-tier enemies will already take a huge amount of damage.

Fireball is then your main damage dealer and the core engine of the build. It is not just there to finish enemies off; it is also what drives the Cauldron charm set.

The way Cauldron works is that it gives you a stacking buff called Heat whenever you cast Pyromancy skills. This can stack up to 15 times, increasing your damage, healing when hitting enemies, and damage reduction.

With the 5-piece bonus, once you reach maximum Heat, you enter "Clearcasting". During this state, your skills have no Mana cost, deal increased damage, and have increased area of effect. After six seconds, this buff expires, and you start building Heat again from scratch.

This is why Attack Speed is such an important stat for the build. The faster we cast, the faster we reach Clearcasting, and once it falls off, the faster we can build back into it again.

There are also two important damage windows to keep in mind.

The first comes from Aspect of Armageddon, which gives us a significant damage increase while our Ultimate is active. Since we are using Inferno, these Ultimate windows are where a lot of our strongest damage comes from. When you cast Inferno, you want to be ready to stand still, get your Hydras active, and fire as many Fireballs as possible into the grouped enemies or boss.

The second comes from Aspect of Shredding Blades, which helps us keep enemies Vulnerable. This works when enemies are damaged by a Conjuration skill, which for this build means Hydra. Because of that, you should make sure Hydra is being cast consistently, especially against tougher enemies and bosses.

Finally, because this build is centered around Burning damage, we are making use of Drognan's Anguish. This ring causes us to take a small amount of Burning damage ourselves while casting Pyromancy skills, which is why the build includes some Life on Hit and regeneration to help offset that self-damage.

All in all, the build is structured around applying Burning damage, scaling that damage as much as possible, and using Fireball to quickly ramp into Cauldron’s Clearcasting state for big, satisfying bursts of fire damage.
