Sanctification
A fraction of power from The High Heavens has become available for you to use throughSanctification.
Sanctification allows the player the opportunity to take the ascendant power of TheHigh Heavens and imbue that into your items.
Sanctifying your item has the chance to:
Apply a random bonus Legendary power(Aspect)
Improve an Affix into a Greater Affix
Add a bonus Affix from a pool of special Sanctification affixes
Replace an existing Affix with a randomSanctification affix
Add a random amount (5-25) of bonus Quality
Sanctifying your item makes it unmodifiable, ending that item’s journey. This should be the last upgrade you make to your item.
There are a couple different ways to attain this sanctification bonus. In Pre-torment difficulties, after defeating a Lesser Evil within one of the actives they have taken over, you will have a rare chance to sanctify an item at theHeavenly Anvil. If you choose not to use this at the time of invitation, you will not have the option to Sanctify your item again until you receive another divine invitation.
You can also obtainHeavenly Sigils, which can be used at will to transport you to theHeavenly Forge to undergo Sanctification. These are only needed to Sanctify items at Ancestral quality. These can only be earned in Torment difficulties and will stack in your inventory.
New Player Progression System - Season Rank
Seasonal Journey Rework
The Season Journey is now being replaced by Season Rank, a more challenging version stocked with even greater rewards. Capstone Dungeons are built into an all-new system, aimed to challenge your progress through the many difficulty tiers as you gain power through your character’s journey. Note that despite Capstone Dungeons stating a suggested Level to attempt them, they do not scale in difficulty with your current level.
Each Rank now requires you to complete a Capstone Dungeon that can be challenged at any level before progressing to the next Rank.
Capstone Dungeon
While Capstone Dungeons are needed to progress through the new Season Rank, they have fixed difficulties. Meaning that they do not scale in difficulty with your current level, so you can challenge them later in the season if you want to blast through them or if you want the challenge you can take them on earlier to progress through your Season Rank faster.
There are five Capstone Dungeons to conquer:
Vault of the Crucible
Suggested level: 30
Difficulty Tier: Hard
Hellish Descent
Suggested level: 50
Difficulty Tier: Penitent
Enclave of Darkness
Suggested level: 60
Difficulty Tier: Torment I
Den of the Apostate
Suggested level: 60
Difficulty Tier: Torment II
Breach of Sin
Suggested level: 60
Difficulty Tier: Torment III
Renown Rework
Renown is also being replaced by the new Season Rank system, completing optional objectives with the Season Rank to earn Skill Points, Smoldering Ashes, and Cosmetics.
Season Rank rewards additional Skill points at Rank 1, 2, and 3.
Season Rank awards additional Paragon points at Rank 3, 4, 5, and 6.
Extra Potion capacity has been removed from the Renown reward tracks in the Eternal Realm, and replaced with a different bonus.
Altars of Lilith and Tenets of Akarat will still grant some Experience and minor rewards, rather than permanent stats and power.
Once you’ve earned Ashes through the Season Rank, they can be spent on these Seasonal Blessings:
Urn of Divine Favor: Increase Divine Favor earned from all sources.
Urn of Reckoning: Chance for Elite and Champion monsters to drop additional items.
Urn of Calamity: Earn additional gear rewards from World Bosses.
Urn of Ancestral Whispers: Boosts the chance for an Ancestral Cache to appear when turning in Whispers.
Urn of Sanctification: Chance to drop an additional Heavenly Sigil from all sources.
Additionally, Completing the Rank 5 Capstone Dungeon and unlocking Rank 6, players will be rewarded with a new pet, Alefta!
Tempering and Masterworking Rework
In the Season of Divine Intervention, how you interact with your items is being completely reworked to reduce frustration and randomness while giving players more control over their itemization journey. Players now always get their desired Tempering Affix, and Masterworking has been changed to become more straightforward and streamline. Additionally, the amount of base affixes found on non-unique items will be increased from three to four.
Tempering Rework
You can now select which specific affix you want to apply to your item from a Tempering Recipe, but the number of Tempers an item can have will be reduced to one to compensate. However a new system is being added, there is now a random chance the Temper applied will become a Greater Temper, having its bonuses increased by 50%.
Items can still have their Tempers reset using Scrolls of Restoration, with the limit of retempers now becoming infinite to allow players to the freedom to use their best gear on multiple different builds.
Masterwork Rework
Masterworking now uses item Quality as a metric of progress, which gives a bonus to the base damage, armor, or resistance of an item as well as any affixes on the item.
Items can be Masterworked to a maximum Quality threshold of 25. Each time you Masterwork the item, it adds a random amount of Quality to the item (from 2-5). Quality will also slightly boost all affix values by 1% per Quality level.
Once at maximum Quality, you can roll it one last time for a Capstone Bonus. This Capstone Bonus upgrades a random affix on your item by 50%, including Greater Affixes. You can then choose to re-roll the Masterworked Greater Affix, without resetting your Masterworking Quality. Re-rolling the current Masterworked Affix will cost Obducite and Neathiron.
Reworks to Combat
Combat is shifting in a big way in the Season of Divine Intervention. How you calculate your defenses, how enemies behave, and the affixes you will be fighting against are all changing to help bolter the feeling of engaging combat.
Monster Balance Changes
Monster combat felt too straight forward and predictable, so balance changes are being made across the board from the way they act and strategize, how much damage they deal, and the affixes they carry to push combat to the limits and to test your build at every level.
Improved Monsters
Monsters will better react and adapt to combat in more complex ways, with each monster now having its own clear role and identity when fighting. Monster behavior was previously too predictable; they’ll now be more dynamic in how they respond to you in combat, resulting in them grouping up less.
On top of being smarter, monster damage across the board has been increased, with Monster affixes also becoming more powerful, making it more necessary to deal with before moving on to other less important enemies to create more engaging combat.
Champion enemy rarity has been reworked to form Champion Packs.
There are 20+ new monster affixes to learn and conquer, and Elites now spawn with minions that inherit some of their affixes.
These changes apply to all monsters across Sanctuary.
Defensive Rework
In an effort to better equalize effective Health across classes and builds, several changes are being made to the way effective Health interacts with Damage Reduction and how those individual stats are calculated with the goal putting more emphasis on gearing your builds towards survivability.
Armor and Resistances
Armor and Resistances will both become rating systems, with diminishing returns at higher values. Armor now reduces all damage taken, both Physical and Non-Physical.
A new type of Damage Resistance is being introduced: Physical Damage. Additionally, the Armor and Resistance penalties per Torment difficulty have been removed. When selecting each Torment difficulty, it will also provide a recommended Toughness level. Each Skills and Paragon Nodes are also being reworked with these changes in mind.
Paragon Nodes and Skills that provided various form of Damage Reduction now grant a multiplicative bonus to your armor or all resistances.
Toughness
To help you understand your defenses better, a new stat has been added called Toughness that represents the total amount of raw damage of each type you can take after considering all damage mitigation sources.
Toughness is displayed under your character stats beneath Attack Power. The Toughness value summarizes your average defense against each damage type, hovering over this value will give a detailed view of how effective your defenses are against each specific damage type. You will also be able to compare the Toughness of items between tooltips to help inform your decision.
Healing Updates
Potions are changing significantly to make their use more impactful and purposeful:
Base Potion capacity has been reduced to 4.
Potion healing is now an instant, percentage based heal.
Using a Potion also heals you for 35% of your total Health immediately on use.
In addition to the Potions you pick up, you’ll also slowly regenerate a Potion every 30 seconds. To help compensate the loss of longer sustain, Life on Hit has been improved and re-added as a potential affix to see or equip on items.
The values for Life Regeneration, Life on Kill, Healing Percentage have all been vastly increased and made more readily available. Healing Potion upgrades have also been removed from the game.
Fortify Re-design
To work in tandem with the changes to Healing and Potions, Fortify is shifting from a type of Damage Reduction to an additional reservoir of Life that is drained to heal you over time.
When you now gain Fortify, it will stack up to your Maximum Life. When you have Fortify under Maximum Life, you’ll heal for a percentage of your Maximum Life per second in exchange for an equal amount of Fortify.
You will be considered Fortified as long as you have any amount of Fortify. Specific changes to Skills, Passives, and items related to Fortify have also received balance change as a result.
