How to Ping in Deadlock (MIA, Cooldowns, and More)
Improve Your Communication With Pings
In team games like Deadlock, efficient communication can be the edge when two team are equally skilled.
Between voice chat, text chat, and the ping wheel you have a ton of tools for a variety of situations.
In this guide, we'll cover the fundamentals of the ping wheel since it's the most difficult one to understand with mechanics the game doesn't explain directly.
It's also one of the coolest options because each hero provides voice lines that match the ping.
The Ping Wheel (Hold Middle Click, M3)
Deadlock's ping wheel offers a wide range of options by default, and you can even switch them out for other ones.
To access your ping wheel, hold down middle-click (M3), then drag to the option you want.
To change your options, head to your Setting and then go to the "Chat Wheel" section.
At the bottom you'll see the [Contextual Slot] which is basically an option that adapts to your situation.
For example, if you ping when holding the Spirit Urn, your hero will ask for help in delivering it.
It isn't perfect but you'll be surprised at how adaptive it is. Experiment and see what works!
How to Ping Directly
How to Ping With Crosshairs
By using Middle-click (M3), you can ping something with your crosshairs.
This can be used for purposes such as
Spotting an enemy
Asking to push a lane (click on enemy Guardian)
Telling an ally to be careful
How to Ping on the Map
If you want to call attention to something that isn't within your hero's sights, hold down Tab to switch away from your crosshairs and to a mouse cursor. Then, just click directly on the map.
This is particularly useful for when your team is preoccupied with fights objectives and doesn't notice that lanes are pushing into your base.
How to Ping MIA (Enemy Missing in Action)
If you're a MOBA veteran, you're hopefully used to using and seeing "mia" in your chat.
When we covered the ping wheel earlier, you may have been wondering where the the option was.
Well, it's a bit hidden, but you'll have to hold Tab and click on an enemy's portrait at the top of the screen.
Hopefully they'll add more in-game hints as we approach Deadlock's full release, as this is something that a lot of players don't know.
How to Ping Cooldowns
Another ping that's hard to find is pinging your CDs (cooldowns).
To do so, you'll need to use Tab and Middle-click (M3) on your ability at the bottom of the screen.
The chat bubble will then pop up at the top and even indicate how much time is left.
This is particularly useful for letting your team know when your ultimate isn't available for a while or is coming online soon.
