What is the Spirit Urn?

If you're learning Deadlock, you're probably wondering, "What is the Spirit Urn?" and "What does it do?".

To keep it simple, the Soul Urn is a side objective that first spawns at 10 minutes (the same time as the Mid Boss).

You will see a ping on the map when it is spawning. It takes some time to fall from the sky and settle before it can be picked up.

While the Mid Boss is more of a Late Game objective, the Soul Urn is more of the Mid Game objective in terms of when teams prioritize getting it.

How the Spirit Urn Works

Once the Spirit Urn spawns, any member of either team can pick up and carry it by standing on it. They will be revealed on the minimap after 20 seconds from the initial pickup as long as they are holding it.

The player carrying the Spirit Urn can no longer fire their weapon or cast abilities. However, they can still use the universal movement options like Jump, Slide, Dash, and Dash Jump.

If the carryer tries to hold onto the urn forever, they will start to take continuous damage (1% of Max HP with regen disabled). If it's dropped after 90 seconds from being picked up, it begins to go back to its spawn location and cannot be picked up by that same team for 12 seconds.

Once a player has the Spirit Urn, they can complete the quest by delivering it at the opposite side of the map.

While carrying it, they will receive +2 sprint if their team is winning and +6 if they're losing.

A Heavy Melee punch will instantly cause the player carrying it to drop it.

Where the Urn Spawns, and Where to Deliver It

In the October 24th patch, the Deadlock team changed how the Spirit Urn drop-off location works - now it will change its location based on who is in the lead. A lead is determined if there is at least a difference in 8% net worth between the teams.

When the teams are even, it will be in the usual spots at the halfway mark:

When Amber has a lead, it will be here:

What the Spirit Urn Gives When You Turn It In

So what do you get when you turn in the Spirit Urn?

When a Spirit Urn is on the ground, you will see a Soul value. This value scales throughout a game.

When you turn in a Deadlock Spirit Urn, your team gets:

  • The Souls split among the team.

  • Capturer receives +25% bonus Souls.

  • Capturer receives + 1 Ability Point.

  • Each player on the Capturer's team gets a permanent Golden Statue buff.

Note that the Souls will pop out upon turning it, so they can be denied.

Once the Spirit Urn is turned in, it will respawn again at the next 5th minute mark.

So if it was turned in at 12 minutes, it will respawn at 15 minutes. If it was turned in at 18 minutes, it will respawn at 20 minutes.

If the Spirit Urn is left untouched and not delivered before the next 5th minute mark, it will still respawn at either side.

Spirit Urn Tips

Here are some quick tips you should know about the Spirit Urn:

  • If your character has high Stamina, whether from base stats or Items, consider being the dedicated Capturer.

    • Similarly, you might want to avoid being the Capturer if you lack Stamina as you'll be easier to catch.

  • You cannot use a Teleporter when carrying it.

  • You cannot use a Zipline when carrying it.

  • Ivy can pick up and fly the Spirit Urn holder with her ult, Air Drop. If she times it right, she can solo fly it herself.

  • Although a situational option, you can hold the Urn as a diversion to force enemy team members to that area.
