Wuthering Waves: Who to Reroll For

In this article, I hope to answer any and all questions you may have in terms of rerolling in Wuthering Waves. When it comes to meta, you can refer to our Wuthering Waves Tier List. Keep in mind this tier list is based on CBT 2, so things may change on release.

First off, What is rerolling?

Slot Machine

Rerolling is the process of making multiple accounts to “roll” on a character banner. Since these games have a gacha character acquisition system, you can abuse it by making new accounts over and over until you get the character you want.

By doing this, you will be able to start your account with multiple strong characters to carry you through the game. Or maybe you really like one specific character regardless of meta and want to start with them.

Should you Reroll?

Sad Slot Machine

When it comes to rerolling, there is no correct answer. If you have your eyes set on a specific character, whether for meta reasons or not, rerolling will guarantee you are able to get them. (Assuming you spend enough time)

It all comes down to what you value. If you’re willing to spend the time rerolling, there’s nothing wrong with it. If you don’t want to spend hours playing through the tutorial over and over, then don’t bother.

You can also choose not to reroll as a way to experience the game for what it is. If you get unlucky, you can take it as a challenge to tackle content with weaker characters.

How to Reroll?

For Wuthering Waves, you have to make a new account every time you want to reroll. Once you do, simply rush through the intro/prologue of the game to the point you can summon for characters.

If you’re rerolling on Day 1, you’ll only have easy access to 20 Permanent pulls from pre-register rewards. On Day 2, you’ll receive an additional 10 in the mail, so you can reroll with 30 pulls instead.

You can further optimize your reroll process by doing a few extra things as well. Here’s a basic summary of the pulls you can get.

  • 20 Permanent Pulls (Pre-register rewards sent to all players)
  • 10 Permanent Pulls (Sent to all players starting Day 2)
  • Union Level 5 (5 Standard pulls)
  • You can buy additional Lustrous Tides from the shop using Corals you obtain from pulling.
  • 10 Event Pulls (Sent to all players starting Day 3)

When you get your 20-40 pulls (Lustrous Tide), you will have three options to pull from. If you want a more detailed look at the gacha system, you can read our full Wuthering Waves Gacha System Guide.

Recommended Reroll Strategy

Depending on how much time you want to spend each reroll, you can get anywhere from 20-30 ish pulls (+10 if Day 2 or later). The Novice banner guarantees a random Permanent 5-Star upon 50 pulls (discounted to 40 pulls).

We also know that once you complete the Novice Banner, you will get a 5-Star Selector Banner. This banner will let you choose which Permanent 5-Star character you want. You will be guaranteed to get them within 80 pulls.

With these two banners, the general recommended strategy is to pick 2 out of the 5 Permanent 5-Stars you want, and reroll for those. You will reroll on the Novice Banner until you get one of the 5-stars you want, and use the Selector Banner to get the other desired character.

On average, this will only take you 2.5 tries rerolling, and you can start the game off with the characters you want.

If you’re rerolling on Day 3 or after, you can also try rerolling for Jiyan with the 10 free Event pulls. However, this will take a long time, and you might lose a 50/50, getting a Permanent character instead of Jiyan. If you absolutely want Jiyan and want to go through this reroll process, you can, but only starting from Day 3.

Important: Do not use Astrite (premium currency) during this reroll process. Astrite should be saved for pulling on Event Characters/Weapons, so you should try to reroll with the free Lustrous Tides you receive. You can make the reroll process slightly faster if you use your Astrite, just don’t use too much.

Novice Banner

Wuthering Waves Novice Banner

This will be the banner you want to pull on. You want to get 1 of 2 desired characters, meaning you’ll have about a 40% chance of hitting what you want each reroll. Upon finishing this banner, you’ll gain access to the 5-Star Selector, where you can choose which Permanent 5-Star character you want.

5-Star Selector Banner

As previously mentioned, you simply get to pick which 5-star you want to receive. After getting one character from the Novice banner, you can then choose the second 5-Star character you want from the Permanent pool.

Once again, DO NOT use Astrite on this banner. You may really want to get your 5-Star quickly, but Astrite is a valuable resource for Event Characters and Weapons. By playing through the game and leveling up your account, you’ll receive plenty of Lustrous Tides (Permanent pulls), so take your time. You will eventually get your desired character for free.

Permanent Character Banner

This will be the “standard” banner. This will be where you spend your Lustrous Tides after you finish the Novice Banner and 5-Star Selector Banner. Don’t use your pulls on this banner early as you’re much better off going through the Novice and Selector Banner first.

Permanent Weapon Banner

Lastly, there is the Permanent Weapon Banner that you can also reroll on instead of the character banners. One nice thing about the Weapon banner is that you can guarantee which Weapon you want within 80 pulls. Here’s a rundown of the 5-Star weapons.

  • Abyss Surges: Gauntlets
  • Cosmic Ripples: Rectifier
  • Emerald of Genesis: Sword
  • Lustrous Razor: Broadblade
  • Static Mist: Pistols

In general, it’s not recommended to reroll for Weapons, as getting a larger roster of characters is usually more beneficial for accounts.

On the Permanent Weapon Banner, you will be able to select which Weapon you want to pull for, and get it guaranteed within 80 pulls. This is another reason why rerolling for a 5-star character may be more ideal as you can guarantee something you may not get playing the game normally.

If you ever want a specific Weapon, this banner will always be here. Conversely, getting the specific 5-Star characters you want is harder to do.

However, maybe you want to play Danjin (Sword) or Aalto (Pistols) as your main instead of a 5-star. If you want you can reroll on the weapon banner to get a good weapon for them.

When it comes to the 5-star permanent weapons, the Sword and Pistols are recommended. This is because they have CRIT Rate stats as opposed to ATK% for the others.

Which 5-Star to Reroll For

Lastly, I’m going to quickly summarize which characters were strong from CBT2. This information is subject to change, but I’ll try to give an overview. If you want a more in-depth explanation on these characters, be sure to check out our Wuthering Waves Tier List.

There is a pool of five 5-star characters that you can receive from the Permanent pool.

  • Calcharo: Electro/Broadblade
  • Encore: Fusion/Rectifier
  • Jianxin: Aero/Gauntlets
  • Lingyang: Glacio/Gauntlets
  • Verina: Spectro/Rectifier

Verina: S

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Spectro/Rectifier

In terms of meta, Verina is almost without a doubt the best choice. She is a flexible support that provides ATK buffs and healing. In general, DPS characters come and go, while dedicated support characters take longer to be power crept.

Calcharo: A

Wuthering Waves Calcharo Portrait

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Electro/Broadblade

In CBT 2, Calcharo was one of the highest DPS units. He also synergizes very well with Yinlin, who comes out a bit after release. In terms of meta, Calcharo will likely be the second best option.

Encore: A

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Fusion/Rectifier

Encore is another solid DPS unit. Her damage is very competitive, and comparable to Calcharo. However, when Yinlin releases, her and Calcharo form a pair that’s very powerful. If Encore gets a hybrid DPS character to team up with, she will be just as good of an option as Calcharo.

Lingyang: TBD

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Glacio/Gauntlets

For these next two characters, it’s hard to assess because Kuro Games announced they will be buffing/changing their kit. Lingyang underperformed in CBT 2, but he is a high skill testing character with his mid-air combat. Many players find it clunky and difficult to play, but things may change on release.

Jianxin: TBD

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Aero/Gauntlets

Jianxin is quite debated when it comes to CBT 2 performance. Some players think she’s quite bad, due to her being clunky and slow. Other players believe she has so much utility in her kit that she’s a top character. She’s a jack of all trades, with damage, AoE, and utility.
